The six Reich wing members of the illegitimate supreme court are guilty of various crimes. From accepting bribes to perjury to violating their oath and then some. They have turned the meaning of supreme to mean supremely corrupt. The Chief Judge is complaining about how we are talking about the court. I suggest that he look at the lawlessness he and his brethren have created in their allegiance to their ideology, not the law. When we the people regain control of our country one of the first items of business is to impeach them remove them.
It’s past time for revolt. “A true revolution of values will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our past and present policies. On the one hand, we are called to play the Good Samaritan on life's roadside, but that will be only an initial act. One day we must come to see that the whole Jericho Road must be transformed so that men and women will not be constantly beaten and robbed as they make their journey on life's highway. True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring.”- Martin Luther King Jr.
My Quaker father stopped including “under God” when the wimpy Congress added that to the pledge. A little thing that means everything to me. So, bet your booties, i dissent. No kings. No clowns. No tyrants.
We need to think about how the Koreans rose up against their tyrant and got rid of him while we’re letting our tyrant get away with this. There’s definitely something wrong with us and I know what it is having been a teacher. Our fascist-run schools - most of our schools - did this to us and got us to a point where our media refuses to acknowledge this. I wrote a book explaining this but our culture isn’t ready to hear the truth. We need to figure out a way to make us ready as that’s the only way back to democracy. We lost democracy because we stopped producing citizens, plain and simple. Listen to our whistleblowing teachers at WhiteChalkCrime.com and EndTeacherAbuse.org. Our schools are to be democracy’s foundation. That’s the only path back to democracy.
I repeat - He is the king of both sidesism. Here’s a little for you and a little for you while the big winner is authoritarianism.
The Roberts Court has made up new ‘doctrines’ to justify these rulings & veered wildly from earlier SCOTUS precedents on the flimsiest of excuses. Each one encourages this administration to go further into lawlessness. Not only by eroding our rights but by being the Court of Corruption that ‘legalized’ corruption in public office.
It's a shell game. The Court plays loose and fast with legal technicalities to arrive at a ruling that seems to argue for judicial restraint, while wielding its own judicial power in defiance of the Constitution itself.
Whenever I see a phrase like "most people" or "most Americans," I qualify it with "white": most *white* people" or "most *white* Americans." Because most Black people, and people of color more generally, did see it happening. How could they not? They've been living it day in, day out. Here's a clue: Did your parents (or guardians) ever sit you down at age 6 or 7 for "the talk"? Mine didn't. As a white kid growing up I thought police officers were friendly. This started to change when at 13 and 14 I watched TV newscasts about police officers brutalizing Black people in the South, and when at 17 I watched the police riot in Chicago. At 18 I moved to D.C., became active in the antiwar movement, and learned to be very, very wary of men in blue uniforms (they were overwhelmingly men at that point), especially when they had gas masks handy and double especially when their nametags were taped over.
Watching ICE agents at work takes me back, and not in a good way.
The ghost of RBG... She was a distinguished jurist. I certainly admire her on many levels. But her extreme hubris, which prevented Obama from appointing her successor, has stained her legacy and imperiled our democracy. The difference between a 6-3 majority and a 5-4 majority is HUGE. I wish the rest of the Democratic gerontocracy would take note. Hubris kills.
This has been expressed and reiterated for years now. I think we can move on to dealing with the present. It is becoming more obvious the difference between a 5-4 and 6-3 court is for now no difference at all.
Who holds the WH and majority in the Senate will determine whether we can pass any judicial reforms re: SCOTUS and the majority will come into play when new members are nominated. If we want to go back in time to find blame, Dem leaning voters did not pay enough attention to the importance of the Courts. I believe they’ve awakened.
The error of the Founders: basing the entire structure of government on the presumption of good intent by its members. They knew that from time to time a bad actor would appear and they made provisions for that, but they simply could not conceive of the kind of rampant cruelty and self-serving greed we have now.
They could not imagine a blatantly corrupt and addled Executive, lying openly and brazenly, displaying the most crass behavior and disgusting cruelty, being elected to office by a crowd of superstitious, ignorant knuckle-draggers thirsting for the blood of any not in their own tribe.
They could not imagine an entire majority party composed of oath-breaking quislings, mewling and wetting themselves over the threat of losing their cushy positions, so terrified of the prospect that they willingly cede all their Congressional power and leap to obey the slightest whim of the rotten Executive, no matter the cost to the people they claim to represent.
They could not imagine a Supreme Court with a majority of members willing to hand over absolute power to the Executive, several openly taking bribes for years and scoffing at all attempts to rein them in, secure in the certainty that they themselves are far above the law.
And they certainly could not imagine all three of these situations occurring at the same time.
Steven, your commentary of the day paints a very factual picture of where we are today as a Country and as a People. Unfortunately…the picture is painted with sad, somber colors! It’s ironic…last year at this time would anyone have dared to imagine that, on virtually the eve of our Country’s 250th birthday, we could very well be on the verge of another Revolution???? Drastic you say! Reread Steven’s post!! Who do we turn to…the administration, the Supreme Court, our elected politicians…? The Administration lies, breaks/ignores the law, etc., and SCOTUS swears to the legality of it! as well as, barring any legitimate opposition attempts. Regards to the value of a majority of the elected/appointed politicians…“ they’re a very poor joke at best!”
Even if ???? there’s a midterm election…it most likely would be “fixed!” In any event…at the rate were going it will be too late!
It is disturbing that SCOTUS passed on opportunities to rule on the legality of nationwide injunctions when they arose during the Biden administration, yet chose to do so in this instance. What could be more appropriately subject to a universal injunction than an executive order that flagrantly violates our Constitution? The Court decides which cases to hear. Why this one?
We must support our strong leaders, gather with the courageous, and stay among the loyal. Be grateful for the strength in many with the skills and knowledge of what they know. We have an army of strength in this nation in our people who are loyal to our Constitution and are also people who make the country a success. Our people are our power.
The Fourth of July is Friday. A holiday that I used to enjoy, decorate fully and celebrate proudly.
I could not be more ashamed of our present government than I am in this moment.
This is the darkest moment in the history of our country as the Christian nationalist fascist 2025 plan architects are aggressively collapsing, our democracy as they deemed it and our constitution should no longer exist.
The alt right Republicans fascist authoritarians say they fly our flag upside down ( including at the home of one of our Supreme Court justices Samuel Alito ) to indicate “ crisis”. They think and believe
Humanity, empathy and compassion for all
Safety nets for people to live in dignity
Freedom of speech
Justice and equality for all
Fairness for all
Acceptance of all
Freedom for all
Having a “diverse fabric” in our society
No systemic misogyny, no racism
No antisemitism
No bigotry
Wanting reasonable gun control legislation
Wanting good healthcare for all
Having norms of decency, civility, honesty
prevents them from being free and means our country is in CRISIS thus they fly our flag upside down?!!!!!
All of us are fighting to save our democracy and our constitution as intended by our founding fathers with
3 equal branches of government
All of our EQUAL rights
Freedom of speech
Absolute separation of church and state
The 14th amendment was ratified properly and became part of our constitution ensuring birthright citizenship which is now being ABOLISHED by the stroke of a pen by an individual president abusing the power of “executive orders”…….
We are standing together putting country before party pushing back on unbridled lawlessness corruption and inhumane brutality in this fascist authoritarian takeover……..
Maybe WE should be the ones to fly our flags upside down on the Fourth of July as we are in a real huge constitutional crisis and our democracy rights and freedoms have never been more threatened in the history of the United States of America.
Justice and equality are two sides of the same coin.
What is there to celebrate?
We are NO LONGER the land of the FREE.
We are no longer the country that HELPS others or not even our own American people.
But we certainly are still home of the BRAVE as evidenced by the millions that came out for the “No Kings “ peaceful protests” . The power is still with the people

Trumpty-Dumpty sat on his wall;
Trumpty-Dumpty displayed his great gall.
All of his lackeys in Congress did fall
Into line so his lawlessness would not befall
A compliant Court wrapped in its disgusting thrall.
We have no king’s horses. We have no king’s men
How will we put our country back together again?

Spot on, as usual, Steve. Thank you for highlighting these appalling developments.
Excellent, Steven. You brought together crucial quotes, adding your clear narrative. We are no longer in a democracy.
We are in a democracy in crisis.
I repeat - He is the king of both sidesism. Here’s a little for you and a little for you while the big winner is authoritarianism.

It's a shell game. The Court plays loose and fast with legal technicalities to arrive at a ruling that seems to argue for judicial restraint, while wielding its own judicial power in defiance of the Constitution itself.
And when Americans ask, how did this happen to our Democracy? It was by a thousand cuts, and most people never saw it happening.
Whenever I see a phrase like "most people" or "most Americans," I qualify it with "white": most *white* people" or "most *white* Americans." I like your name. We have both herons and egrets around here. I love watching them.
I felt, and feel, the exact way you do about RBG's behavior.
RBG was amazing woman and justice

It seems to have been a fatal error.
That is so true

We will have midterm elections. We need to support organizations working for voting rights, such as Democracy Docket, the ACLU, NAACP, etc.

Roberts has no idea of what is required to follow the laws
