Hi gpm, Yes, and A Brave New World.

Though, I see us weak scrawny humans incapable of survival without working together, helping each other... thus I see cooperation as our nature... selfish narcissistic cruelty as learned behavior. Your thoughts on this?

gpm414's avatar

The funny thing is that my next book to re-read is Brave New World. Orwell's books were required reading for some college courses nearly 5 decades ago. Never thought they would be relevant in 2025.

As for nature vs nurture. I would agree that part of the reason humans have survived this long is in great part that most of us learn how to cooperate. But some do not follow that path. And those that don't believe in cooperating with others, is where selfish narcissistic cruelty can come from. It can also be passed down to following generations. I'm not a genetic researcher, but I find it hard to believe that a selfish narcissistic psychopath is born that way. I think they learned that behavior. So my question is, how do the reasonable cooperative people who want to live in a civil society survive, when their leader has no intention of cooperating with anyone, and only wants to impose his grievances and will on everyone. Sorry if my thoughts sound like a rant, but I refuse to comply and be silent. I assume I'm not alone.

Thanks gpm, indeed, "...how do the reasonable cooperative people who want to live in a civil society survive, when their leader has no intention of cooperating with anyone, and only wants to impose his grievances and will on everyone." With a few exceptions, we’re not treating people with what actually works best.” Part of the reason is that exposure work is hard. Anxious people aren’t typically eager to feel more anxious. “It’s also uncomfortable for many therapists,” Whiteside told me. “Most people [do] therapy ... to help people, but with exposure therapy you’re actually helping them feel uncomfortable. It’s not much fun for anybody. It’s much easier to sit in a therapist’s office and talk about feelings.”..."

TASS, the fact that everything happens after calls with Putin, Zelensky was told he couldn’t say bad things about Putin.

One of my favorite idiocies was when he said he aligned with neither Ukraine nor Russia because if he said bad things about Putin he couldn’t negotiate with him. Didn’t stop him from calling Zelensky a lot of things, most recently a dictator. So another tip of the hand that was too obvious.

There is only one way-- impeachment and conviction. In any normal Senate of the past 200 years, there would have been bipartisan consensus that the threshold of "high crimes and misdemeanors" would have been crossed during the week of January 20.

Among the elements of that executive order: "Failure to faithfully implement the President's policy is grounds for professional discipline, including separation." —

NPR also reported:

“This week, USAGM hired two-time unsuccessful Arizona MAGA candidate and former local television news anchor Kari Lake as an adviser. Trump publicly announced she was his choice to lead the VOA but she can't start until Trump's nominee to be chief executive of USAGM is approved by the Senate. Lake has said the network is rife with liberal bias and she simply wants to make it fair to Trump and his views.”

Dixie, under our Constitution, impeachment by Congress is the means by which presidents and vice-presidents are charged with illegal and/or improper behavior. The House impeaches (last time around, that was what the J6 committee was doing). Impeachment itself is like a grand jury indictment. The charges, if they pass, are then sent to the Senate, which serves as combination jury and judge. If found guilty, the accused official is removed from office. Further charges can be brought both at fed and state level- I agree they should be.

But we need to be patient to get the result we need as we work toward that end WE the People have a key role in this. We need to make noise, in whatever way we can. Showing up in numbers in peaceful protests,. Write letters often to Dems, thanking and encouraging them. And for folks with Repubs in Congress, we need to write to them too, letting them know we need them to stand up to Trump, and sometimes, when they do or say something that supports our cause, saying thanks for that specific action. Try not to employ insults. Ain't nobody ever done something right because they felt insulted. And some of them may become essential allies. We have to keep that possibility open.

I don't know, or certainly hope that our country is not irreparably damaged. But in order to shed the resentment based politics that have driven us off the cliff, right wing media must be countered. And that is a very difficult. Too many are ripe for the cult because of personal fears and biases, lack of critical thinking skills, and outright racism, misogyny, and xenophobia.

For most of my life, yesterday's display of the Trump- Putin alignment would have triggered immediate demands for impeachment by BOTH parties. Today, republican senators are defending the unspeakable behavior. The United States position in the world is being dismantled by one man and his sycophants.

The Party of Obvious Putinism (POOP) has long ago abandoned its morality. Remember when they impeached Clinton for lying about getting a BJ from Monica Lewinski? So many of the House POOP impeachment managers had allegedly had extramarital affairs themselves. The very same party refused to impeach trump for the extortion attempt of President Zelenskyy and then for inciting the J6 riot. Really?!!!! These things were not as serious as what Clinton did?!!!! Any American who still thinks the POOP stands for sanity, let alone patriotism, needs to go get a head CT or MRI.
