CBS has desecrated its own reputation. A real loss.

I am reminded AGAIN of the old adage that says “It takes a lot of time and effort to earn respect, but losing it only takes a few seconds.”

Bari Weiss is rumored to be called “Bury Weiss”. The name fits her. Best to get news from both of you and independent journalists.

Thank you, Patricia. Much appreciated.

Treating facts as merely opinions is a precursor to rewriting history, which is exactly what this regime is doing.

Connie Chung said she can't watch CBS anymore. She said, 'Truth has no value.'

Right you are as to how fragile such a transition and reputation can be. Same process that destroyed the credibility of Washington Post editorials and choices for headlines, etc. When news outlets are owned by entities with much larger and different business interests, journalism does not make the cut for publication standards. Tough and sad, indeed.

Wow! Stunning, they must be trying to be the new”FOX News station.

Sickening…

I have stopped watching CBS, except for the occasional local CBS affiliate.

Bari Weiss has turned into a rag of a channel, comparable to reading the National Inquirer. Tony Dokoupil and his wife, Katy Tur, are clearly prejudiced against democracy. I never heard of Dokupil before but knew of Tur. I used to think she was a professional journalist much like Bartaromo. So disappointed in all of them.

They have cheapened the profession.

I did appreciate other reporting on MS NOW yesterday re: Norem’s statements. I think they did what should be done by more news hosts when faced with false statements by the administration. Although not all lies can be shown clearly on video, there are ways to compare & contrast lies to facts. (Noem’s first statement said ICE vehicles were stuck in the snow & ICE was attempting to push them / it out when the driver “attacked”.)

The hosts told viewers to compare the video to Noem’s statements. Then discussed the glaring false points in the descriptions from Noem. Afterward experts discussed the legal requirements for lethal force including: SCOTUS ruling overturning TN law. Of course Homeland Security honchos know the law so she lied by adding factors the legal requirements.

Tennessee v. Garner, 471 U.S. 1 (1985) PRIMARY HOLDING

Under the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, a police officer may use deadly force to prevent the escape of a fleeing suspect only if the officer has a good-faith belief that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others.

I’m talking about Tur and Morning Joe only. They have bent the knee. Rachel, Lawrence and Nicole are certainly credible individuals.

After reading today's post, I'm struggling to find the right word to describe what I see as, "selling out your values". CBS, the Republican congress, and the cabinet (to name a few), are no longer guided by Democratic values and personal integrity. They have pointed their moral and ethical compass at the Trump regime. I wonder what they think when they are alone and not in front of a camera or listening to their supreme leader. What will they say if they ever face judgement day...and we all will someday in some way.

My character and integrity is who I am, and I will never be for sale for any price, power, or personal reward. I also believe to my core that the great majority of Americans are feeling the same way, and guided by a common belief in the value of all human beings.

I’m so grateful for your weekly conversations, I agree with 99% of what you have to say. Thanks for treating your viewers as intelligent people who can think for themselves, so many news organizations talk as if we’re not too bright.

Thanks men: Great conversation. If one needs the straight facts and truths of the day they will have to get independent media. CBS is slowly become state media. Boycott CBS. Bari Weiss is paid to censor anything detrimental to her real boss.

My wife and I no longer watch CBS News or 60 Minutes. And, I am deeply disappointed in Tony D.

You’re doing a great service outing those who are complicit. I stopped watching CBS and didn’t know about Tony D selling out. I used to like Katy Tur.

The most power those of us who love democracy have is outing the quislings as soon as possible. Let them be mocked. They sell out for power. Making them regret it is our power. Katy was proud of her parents who were reporters. If I were her I’d want to hide being married to an excuse for a human being.

Marco Rubio descended from his only worthy act—calling Trump a con artist—to an absolute joke. Boy did he look like little Marco the other night! Florida boy maybe, but he’s no man.

Good for you for reporting this!

Steven, I spoke with someone recently…who referred to the current crisis as a “Spiral of Doom” for America! In light of the recent actions by the so called Administration I would refer to it as a “Vortex of Destruction”! I could list all the reasons for my comment…but anyone who is not totally deaf and/or blind knows already. The absolute tragedy…there isn’t anyone to oppose it…are we in fact…Doomed???

Cripes one of these tRump threatened countries could retaliate if they felt there was nothing to lose????

New today. As I thought all along...tRump has suggested that he can't be bothered to run against the Democrats so who needs a midterm? And so it begins!

Ann Sharon's avatar

He loves to float that. Mike Johnson said last year there was no path for Donnie to run for a 3rd term. He wouldn’t be on the ballot in the midterms anyway.

This isn’t something he can do with an Exec Order. There is no legal basis. The Constitution is clear about how long legislators can serve before standing for re-election. Will his minions (including GOP legislators) sign on to a de facto dissolving of Congress? I suspect this is a step too far even for SCOTUS given they just slapped down using the National Guard in cities - a decision on a case brought by Illinois. (The reason Donnie announced he was pulling them from 3 cities.)

Another substack, Dave Busiek on Media, also covered CBS. Part of the discussion included that Americans do not grasp on the damage that a weakened press means for society. One commentator wrote: "The disconnect is that far, far, far too few people - from the average American to really smart business school faculty - seem to have zero grasp on the damage that an ineffective and minimized press will have not only on democracy, but business as well." Can there be calls on the journalism schools and associations to have the courage to deal with the bending of the knee by media or the CBS situation?
