We saw it with our own eyes. That should be enough for all Americans to want justice. But the partisan warfare has blinded far too many of us from basic humanity.
It's surely well past time to start arresting the organizers and financers of the insurrection. This was truly a conspiracy who had its kingpin in the Whitehouse!
Garland doesn’t get it. In essence his statement kicked the can down the road. We’re gambling everything on trusting him. The least he can do is recognize this isn’t 1960 and that Justice needs to communicate more, and more frequently. We’re in a 24 hour news cycle. The Justice department is no exception, but they are in denial of this fact and they’re not participating, while every other agent and actor is busy shaping public opinion which, whether they are in denial or not, actually matters.
It’s a good point you made. This is indeed a different era with the news cycle. I am on Facebook, Twitter, reading Stevens writings as well as watching various stations on the Telly.
I’m also looking for reassurance that my outrage will be assuaged with justice. I am still so angry and unfortunately those dam wheels of justice turn slow. But I am forced to catch the crumbs I’m getting from Garland and so are we all. I find myself hungry for a whole piece of bread for once. I’m sick of a year with only crumbs of justice and glimpses of what can happen when I see Bannon and Meadows called to testify to Congress. The most recent power point revelations as well as the testimony of shysters who are revealing a despicable plot to over take the electoral votes and discount them should be enough to bring charges of a conspiracy to commit Sedition in order to interfere in a federal election. That is a crime. We need clear sentencing guidelines for each one of these and even though some are clearly laid out in the 14th amendment, section 3; it must be clear and concise in order to be a deterrence from the next attempt to subvert the people’s voices. So we all wait ... and I’m calling the Senators. I call Manchin and Sinema regularly, but yesterday I called my Senators who are Hawley (thumbs down) and Roy Blunt (who only smiled when Trump gave tax breaks to the rich). Anyone can reach any Senator and leave a message... i believe it can make a difference. 202-224-3121. Meanwhile, I’m going to starve waiting for my next crumb from the Justice Dept.
The sober, methodical, dot your i’s and cross your t’s investigatory pace of Merrick Garland and of Robert Mueller before him is going to get us all killed.
Good morning Steven, first thing this morning I watched Madame VP Harris, and then Biden. I made 9 videos on my phone .. increments of 1 to 2 1/2 minutes each. I will watch them again later and delete all but a few. Years ago I video taped O’Bama giving his last address to the United Nations. I kept 1 clip.. 7 minutes and I still watch the shaky grainy capture of a serious and eloquent Commander in Chief. I saw that again today. Serious, somber and without hesitancy, Biden addressed the nation on this 1 year anniversary of a Seditious Coup attempt. I also watched AG Garlands speech.
I have been reading your editorials and become a subscriber because I completely concur. I’ll never forget my dismay as I heard Laura Ingram call the capital police officers actors. Never! Sargent Ganell suffered a severe foot injury but went back to the capital the next day because he was so concerned about protecting democracy. He felt it was his solemn duty. Finally he sought medical attention for his foot. The picture was shown in the hearings. It was so gruesome and Laura Ingram could not have watched the testimony fraught with terror, frustration and yes rage and still demean these men.
I’m still so angry that some in Congress refuse to show decency and chagrin for what they allowed to happen! They could have stood up and voted to convict him during the second impeachment!
Cowardice is never applauded in history books and every Republican who refuses to stand up for the truth is a coward! Thank you for your words, I’ll read them again. Also, the way you ended your writing is so good. In the end it’s up to the voters to elect those who stand for democracy and discern exactly who’s in this to feather their own nest with that great eagle we call democracy. Bless you, Debbie French

Thank you for your thoughtful note, Debbie.
