Trump is desperately trying to enshrine his name because he knows, deep down, most of the country hates him. And like the bully that he is, he'll force it on us. This is why he didn't go to the Super Bowl. This is why he mean-tweets against anyone who is widely admired or acclaimed (like our Olympic athletes) because he can't and never will get real respect. Only groveling. The naming of public spaces is a way of honoring someone. He deserves no honor, let alone a mention in polite company. We most definitely need to remove all traces of his presidency and his name, including his hotels and golf resorts to which he has only leased the rights. Let's buy the rights if that is what it takes. If it's any consolation, he can know that he WILL go down in history, only it will be as the worst this country has produced as a man and as a president.

He deserves every critical word uttered, displayed, printed, thought or otherwise associated with the cancerous growth he is! That said, “let’s see all the other enablers and DO NOTHINGS like Congress and SCOTUS get their deserved negative publicity as well”! While were at it…might as well add most Republicans…for what they did or didn’t do when it really mattered!!.

Then wildly glorify all those who stood up to him and certainly earned the praise! For these individuals are the real American Hero’s!!!!

Surely there must be a toxic waste facility that needs a new name.

I attended a local protest on Saturday. It felt great to just be with like-minded people, who, despite living in a mostly Republican area know how important community is in service of democracy. We didn’t talk about political affiliation. We just talked about our fears and our need to support our democracy and each other…which is really the same thing. You can’t have a democracy without community. You can’t have an autocracy without fear. Trump is doing a great job of trying to scare us, but the circle of community and faith in our fellow Americans casts it out. As Shakespeare said, “Out, out, damned spot!”. I think he had something there.

Thanks Steven: No forgetting his crimes, and all the other crap this man has done, I often wonder how he became such a needy , ignorant ass. Possibly his father ignored him and he has always been grabbing at something to feel loved. He is like the lost soul who has to have folks bow and praise him , no matter what. All his financial crimes and his grifting gets him over the top when it comes to his wealth and he can strut around the yard like a rich rooster and feel superior to those in his circle. He attends a world leaders conference and he has to push aside his fellow leaders and get to the front of the stage to be seen. Its like he is struggling just to be loved. His sons say they love him but is it because they have to. I love the idea of naming Mar-a-Lago the Museum of Crime . That one broke me up.

The Donald J. Trump Museum of Crime. This is the most appropriate thing to have his name on. NOTHING ELSE. No damned Presidential library for this POS, just the crime museum. He's nothing but raw sewage spewing all over the nation, as are his sycophantic enablers.

Thank you for the article, great insights. 🙏💙🕊️

Hello, Steven

👏

I’ve re-read this and love so many sections that it took time to decide my favorite.

Ultimately, I selected the paragraph proposing alternate more appropriate assignments of Trumps’s nauseating fetid name.

The ideas made me laugh.

Put his name on a sewer treatment plant.

Please take ALL the letters off the buildings. I don’t want to have a bunch of buildings that say “RUMP” on them.

Excellent as always, Steven. I’m very glad you mentioned the rendition of “America the Beautiful” during the Superbowl. I do think one day we should make this our national anthem. It is a beautiful, emotionally provocative melody and the words are nothing but a love letter to America from those of us who do truly love this nation and this beautiful land.

Thanks, Karen. I agree with you about "America the Beautiful." A love letter, not a military anthem.

À person of no accomplishments has to appropriate those of others, to wit, another person’s Nobel Prize. I wonder what he sees when he looks in the mirror — oh, I forgot, he thinks he’s hot.

🧵Where to start?

I keep on hearing “America, the Beautiful” singing in my head,

“America, America, /

God shed his light on thee.” //

Remember, during Trump-45’s visit to Mount Vernon, the Curator revealed that Trump asked about the name of the mansion, and opined that it would have been better if Washington had named it after himself, 👀!

I made it halfway through this commentary and had to pause. I find Trump to be so loathsome, so vulgar and vile there are no words that adequately define and describe this poopy-diapered subhuman. I boil up in anger and outrage. He is like that toxic puss-filled boil one cannot get rid of no matter how often the boil is drained. All the more angering and dismaying is how the Republicans, mostly, have given this spawn of Satan a pass. No remorse. No contrition. No honor. No disgust. No disgrace.

While we're at it -- having been a D.C. resident for most of the '70s and half of the '80s, I'd like to see Ronald Reagan's name removed from the airport on the Potomac -- "National Airport" was quite enough, thank you -- and John Foster Dulles's from the international airport that's way out of town. I lived through Reagan as an adult. I was in single digits during Dulles's tenure, but I know my history -- plus I grew up listening to my father's Kingston Trio albums and remember the Trio introducing the "Merry Minuet" as "The Kingston Trio plays John Foster Dulles." (This is the song that begins "They're rioting in Africa . . .")
