I know he now doesn’t have to see the peaceful vote certification for a person who denied it to our current President and this country… he doesn’t have to see the inauguration…. He will be honored by an administration who believes in goodness and decency …. he won’t have to see the horrors that are coming in the new year.

But very selfishly; I am absolutely broken hearted.

Thank you for present and current words. This was sustaining and heartbreaking to read.

I thought, Joanie Tool, when I saw the announcement, that his body would have held out until 1/21 if Kamala would've been elected, so much did he want to vote for her and to see her Inaugurated. Like you, I too am broken-hearted. What a good person and role model. May his memory be for a blessing.

I think it's a blessing that Carter died before the orange sadist comes into power. I can only imagine what a nightmare the sadist would have made of the saint's funeral.

Today, it was announced that the funeral day (1/9) will be a National Day of Mourning, fitting I think, and all Federal employees - and my guess, much of DC and perhaps Atlanta, will have the day off. The funeral will be at the National Cathedral after which, if I read the timing correctly, his body will Lie in State in the Capitol. Long ago, Pres. Carter asked Biden to give his eulogy, which is a fitting and beautiful way for Biden to speak of the goodness those who hold the office can do and after they leave, what they can do if they model. (I thought I remembered that Pres Carter said he didn't want Trump at his funeral but oh the awkwardness of either.) Heads of state will be here in DC. AND it's the Thurs. of the Monday when the Presidential votes are certified. DC was already going to be in a major state of security for 1/6. With all this and not knowing if the militias will come in then or wait til Inauguration... it will be interesting.

Fascinating information! Thanks so much for sharing. The certification just before the funeral is such apt timing, considering how President Carter and staff went to 31 different countries (and many multiple times) to monitor elections! I can't remember if I posted this on Steven's page or not, but for what it's worth, here goes. I think you'll enjoy this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZftriZq5Vo

Given this information, perhaps he doesn't want the orange sadist to come because he isn't a legitimate "President". That would be so interesting! Guess we'd see a REAL reaction from the orange sadist on "truth social"(what a hilarious name for it) ALL IN CAPS!!!!! That's lovely that President Carter long ago asked now President Biden to give his eulogy.

I know that he said he was staying alive so that he could vote for Kamala. It never crossed my mind, though, that he may have decided to live long enough to see her become President.

I voted for Jimmy Carter. He was always a decent man and kind to many. He and Rosalynn lived in the same simple home in Georgia for many decades. He brokered a Middle East deal that Repubs hated. Nice people in politics rarely last, except for Joe. Carter did his due diligence while on this earth. I sincerely hope he will be continuously brought to the heights that he so well deserves. May you rest in eternal peace, Mr. President.

History will remember that an imperfect man can still be a great and accomplished man. That humility and decency are traits found in an accomplished man. That Jimmy Carter exuded all of this and more and in his way made the world a better place for millions.

Well written and a heart felt tribute to a wonderful human being, Steven. Successes and failures will never define the character and decency by which he lived his life. I was fortunate to work on some Habitat for Humanity worksites in my home town, and always felt his inspiration every day on the job.

God speed Jimmy Carter, you made a difference in our country, world, and especially our humanity.

I've been sorting through a lifetime of papers and photos today. I came across some pictures from the year I worked for the DOJ in Washington, D.C. I couldn't remember if Jimmy Carter was president then, so I googled it at 4:30 PM. A huge banner appeared at the top of the screen, which said "JIMMY CARTER DIED AT 4:20 PM TODAY". I literally felt in shock, as if I were in a time warp. He was the most wonderful person to be president in my lifetime. It is thanks to him and the Carter Center that he and Rosalynn created, that I had the incredible experience of having H.H. the Dalai Lama personally bless our 6-month-old daughter. The world has been blessed with his time here, following all the dictates of his Savior. He is a person who literally walked the walk. Jimmy is now reunited with his beloved Rosalynn.

Jimmy Carter was an American who made us proud and drew respect from around the world.

As President Carter he committed the cardinal sin of wanting people to reflect thoughtfully on issues that face us and to value service to others. It took less than 20 years to go from ‘Ask not what your country can do for you …’ to ‘what have you don’t for me lately.’

He will be sorely missed.

I remember that speech well. I remember my father going on and on about "alarmist" (and he a life long Roosevelt Democrat.) And I felt that everything he was saying could easily come true, especially about the oil. I was angry with him when he conceded to Reagan before the West Coast polls closed--but admired everything I heard about him after he'd passed the torch, sadly to someone who began to burn down the country in the way he had predicted, leading up to the oligarchy we are about to have ratified as the Real American Way (that oligarchy has always existed, but now it is unabashed.)

One thing I didn't know about him, mentioned in Brian Klaas's post today (The Garden of Forking Paths)--his foundation's successful work to eradicate Guinea Worm and river blindness. That happened in countries far from here, hardly on our radar, "shit holes" to trump. In Carter's care for the "least of us" he showed the kind of Christianity which I can admire, even if I cannot share the basic belief.
