1. I think it once again important to point out Trump’s and Harris’s competing visions of America: Trump’s is whites only, Christians only, loyal only; Harris’s is an all-inclusive one—all genders, all colors, all.
Watching the crowd at the Ellipse, it was a beautiful mosaic of ages and colors. A snapshot of America. She reclaimed our patriotism, our flag, and our country. She rededicated that spot that tfg had desecrated. She was powerful and presidential, all of the things we need to come together as Americans.
We’ve got to give Kamala a Congress to work with her to make her dream a reality for people. We know all too well what it’s like for a president with dreams for everyone and a Senate that knows nothing but how to throw wrenches into those dreams. Right now, the Senate is looking dicey and we need the House to forestall any chicanery on the 6th of January so if we’re going to see those dreams become real, we’ve got to pull the Congress through with her. Think positive and let’s roll!
My wife and I voted last week and I hope we voted for our next president. If she wins, she will be such a breath of fresh air. We need to try to persuade her to pay more attention to the egregious behavior in the middle east, but her heart is certainly in the right place with regard to our own country.
What a wonderful speech: succinct, calm, eloquent. It was an appeal for common sense and compassion to all the citizens of our traumatized nation. But the intangible overtones that Kamala Harris projected - dignity, authority and joy - were just as important in conveying to us that she is more than ready for the office she seeks.
It's high time, as Kamala reminds us, to turn the page.
After her speech, what more is there to say? One week will seem like forever while we feel like we are walking through the valley & shadow of death, fearing defeat, but must keep telling ourselves we fear no evil & will win.
Kamala Harris — “We know who Donald Trump is.” Yes, we do. For those who are wavering on how to vote, she put the contrast into focus. A gigantic supportive crowd heard her speak of being a president for everyone.
For those who thought hate speech from the campaign of DJT wasn’t about them, a so-called comedian burst their bubble. That evening’s message was summed up by Stephen Miller - America for Americans only.
The 2 campaigns could not be ending with greater clarity about who each of the candidates are.
2. The cult screams and sighs and prances for its Dear Leader … but is any MAGAtic willing to put their lives on the line for Donald Trump? To die for the Fat Man?
Trump and Company have a great gift for loudly whining, but little gift or willingness to actually do.
I hadn’t realized until tonight that the abject horror of Trump’s speech in that spot on January 6, 2021 was still such a deeply painful open wound in my heart, mind & soul. Because it’s one of those memories we all have - you know the slow-motion ones in black & white where you suddenly realize that something truly horrific is about to happen. A memory that lives inside of your mind, a shadowy ghost who’s always watching - waiting to pop back into your immediate consciousness in vivid, living color.
VP Harris went straight to that monster and said, “No more”.
You so accurately and eloquently described the beautiful, hopeful speech she gave tonight. But to be perfectly honest; all I could hear was “NO MORE”.
And it was exactly what I needed to vanquish the beast.
She hit a home run with that speech. Donald Trump has been running in this election for 2 years since he announced his candidacy on November 15 in 2022. Kamala Harris has been running for 3 months, after Joe Biden announced he was leaving the race on July 21. What she has done is nothing short of remarkable, and I believe her strong ground game in these closing weeks will make the difference.
So many parts of Kamala speech need to be illuminated!————
She herself “shines”!—————
I’m grateful for this recap Steven. Reading it after hearing it offers so much more clarity!
Excerpt from your writing:
“Well, Kamala Harris returned to the scene of that crime Tuesday night—seven days before the most significant election of our lifetimes—to make her campaign’s closing argument and remake that space. Before a crowd estimated to exceed 75,000 and with the backdrop of an elegantly lit White House behind her, the vice president combined soaring idealism about democracy and the country she loves with razor-sharp assessments of her dictator wannabe opponent and practical promises of how she will govern to get things done.”
I listened intently to every word in the Harris speech, and felt a sense of pride combined with fear. Even if she wins, Trump will again try and pull some kind of illegal action to prevent the certification. He and Mike Johnson are cooking up a felonious, shameful, and corrupt plan that will repeat Jan 6, 2021 and turn our government and our country into a snake pit. And with the Supreme Court on their side - so to speak - they just might win. Elizabeth Graham

She will make an excellent president.

We wait ..........................
If Trump wins, it will be horrendous for the US public.
The implication of her message was clear: Which do you embrace, the power of love or the power of hate?
Absolutely.

This is hope incarnate.
A president for the people indeed.
Hmmm......"Madam President". I'm ready!!

Don't even say that!
