Liz Cheney joins Kamala Harris in Wisconsin. Jack Smith argues that Trump’s crimes are not protected by presidential immunity. The felon prepares to reject the results of another election.
It seems to me that this strange alliance for the good of democracy also models a way forward for this divided country: Put political opinions aside to join forces for the good of the people of this nation. When it (hopefully) re-emerges this is how a reconstituted Republican party can again function with Democrats in our imperfect union. Liz and others are modeling the very premise of a two party system that is "for the people." (as Kamala reminds us). (Although I hope for far less of the Reagan toxin.)
As the saying goes, politics makes strange bedfellows. Rather than claiming to be blue or red, we must instead, for awhile, call purple as is the color of a fragrant , sweet smelling lilac, with leaves shaped like hearts and able to thrive in any soil.
“This is not simply a summary of what happened in 2020. This is a summary of what this depraved and callous man still thinks. Only his overwhelming defeat can successfully stem the inevitable flood of lies already planned to deny the ascension of Kamala Harris to the Oval Office.”
Think not voting sends a message or voting doesn’t matter? Here’s the deal about voting in 2024:
Use it or Lose it.
That’s what this election is about. That’s the choice on the ballot for president. That’s the big “policy” decision hanging over the election. The Cheneys and a host of Republicans (former & ones hanging on by their fingernails) recognize it.
Am forwarding to many friends - esp those who do not seem to grasp the atrocious concept of another demented donny term. Kudos to GOP members who understand & have publicly endorsed Harris. Shame to those who's endorsement might carry weight with GOP voters & who remain silent.
I admire Liz Cheney and her father Darth Vader for their public support of Kamala Harris and our Constitution. It shows conclusively that conservatism and MAGA are not exactly congruent. MAGA is in another universe altogether, where up is down, lies are truth. On the other hand, I do not forgive Vader for the illegal and unnecessary Iraq war, where his former company Halliburton made hundreds of billions of dollars in shameless war profiteering. A whole cadre of the Bush 43 admin should have gone to jail for the wasted of lives and money that that quagmire in Iraq was.
If anyone should know all about what happened on 1/6/21 and what all led up to it, it’s Liz Cheney. So yes, it’s time to bury the hatchet and all pull together to bury trump and his buddies for good. If we escape this mess I hope we can reset our rhetoric to a less frightful level.
Also IMHO Ds should target moderate Rs whom they can work with. Not endorse of course but disagree in the nicest most respectful way possible. It promotes bipartisanship and is also not a djt thing.
Another great piece Steven! First time through I got no further than the opening paragraph before I was seeing RED. What “Rights” do I have as an American Citizen/Voter???? The Lying, Convicted Felon…not indicted, but CONVICTED, shouldn’t even be allowed to be on the ballot! But he is! And we are going into the election without even knowing if he is guilty (although personally I believe he is) of all the other crimes he’s under indictment for. Now with the release of Jack Smith’s Motion…it’s too much!!! We are counting on an Electorate that’s vertically split 50/50 to keep him out to the Oval Office. Another Straw for the Camel’s Back. The Felon is openly planing on trying to STEAL the Election. The A%#Hole should chained to a pipe in the basement until his trial…which they can take their sweet time about holding! Oh…I might add…all this is being “Aided and Abetted” by a significant part of the American Judiciary System! A body which I was taught to believe is the Custodian of our much vaunted System of Laws! Yeah right!
The Wife just told me to stop yelling at the Computer cause I’m scaring the Dogs!
I agree that we need the overwhelming victory that we should have gotten in 2016 and 2020 to finally end the MAGA scourge. Unfortunately, the polls don't indicate that we're headed in that direction. The fact that Trump is closer in the polls than he was in either 2016 or 2020, despite the insurrection and all of his other crimes and assaults on democracy and decency, says something very troubling about the state of our nation. I pray that this time the polls are finally way off in the right direction; otherwise, regardless of the outcome next month, our democracy and systems of governance will continue to be under grave threat for the foreseeable future because not enough Americans have shown they can see through lies and choose democracy and decency over hate and authoritarianism.
Liz Cheney hearkens back to the Republicans of my youth, those on one side of the family and some of our mutual friends. Drastic disagreement on certain policies, but the disagreement had reasons behind it that could be articulated, argued, rejected not because they were lies but because they were unpalatable. The only surviving member of that side of the family is a trumpite. His late brother became a full Democrat while not losing his Catholic faith. I wish I knew what happened to that reasoned disagreement we once had, how the reason part just vanished.
Jack Smith has done a masterful job laying out the evidence against that traitor. Now the big X factor are tRump's fangirl Cannon and his bought off SCOTUS justices. Even if he loses, that contamination of the Judiciary is troubling for years to come. Damn the Federalist Society and Leonard Leo.
I was glad to see that Liz and Dick Cheney have endorsed VP Kamala Harris. It's about time -- in fact, way past time.
The Republican Party has NEVER been for 'family values' or for democracy. It votes against support of children (school lunch programs, Head Start programs, affordable child care), mothers, fathers, the elderly, blue-collar workers, affordable healthcare, living wages, repair of our infrastructure.
How it still convinces so many voters of their lies continues to astound me. It took someone as cruel, incompetent, and ignorant as tffg to get a very few Republicans to speak out against this felonious candidate, who should not even be allowed to run. As a convicted felon, he shouldn't even be eligible, as an incompetent liar, he is not (and has never been) qualified.
He has finally crossed a line that was too much for way too few Republicans. Unfortunately, the reason for this is because this is what the Republican Party has been planning to do since at least Ronald Reagan.
We need to bury him electorally, then let him be crushed under the rule of law (finally.)
It seems to me that this strange alliance for the good of democracy also models a way forward for this divided country: Put political opinions aside to join forces for the good of the people of this nation. Maybe with this joining together against a common threat, Liz will soften somewhat in her policies, just as Kamala has in running for President.
As the saying goes, politics makes strange bedfellows. Rather than claiming to be blue or red, we must instead, for awhile, call purple as is the color of a fragrant , sweet smelling lilac, with leaves shaped like hearts and able to thrive in any soil.
Thorough recap Steven. Thank you.

How many more “details” do you need?

sus."..... knows.
What a powerful message it sends when the gamut of support for Kamala Harris includes Dick Cheney and AOC.
Let's do everything we can to get the word out to every "fence-sitting Independent or Republican," as you say, Steven.
Dear Mainstream Media, we are begging you to play your part.

I am rooting for decency and honor. I hope to have a reasonable nation to leave my grandchildren.
