“Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must...undergo the fatigues of supporting it.” - Thomas Paine. Don’t let battle fatigue set in now. We have a long slog ahead of us.

I so much admire your take mainly because you observe and reflect on what is happening, our past, present and future as Americans - not political propaganda. Thank you Steve and I hope you never stop - America needs your perspective.

The Red Wave hit a Blue Sea Wall.

But, referring to your twitter comment, we can't relax. We may have reached an inflection point where the political dynamics may be changing, but the struggle for our Democratic Republic is far from over.

Republicans have revealed themselves. They have shown us that controlling the levers of power means more to them than supporting the Constitution. They have shown us that there are no rules for them as they aim for that prize. They will say anything and do anything to win. And what can We the People expect if they ever do gain control of our government? A tweet from "Sgt Joker" on 11/6 spells it out...

"I haven't heard a single Republican plan to fix inflation. Instead, I've heard numerous Republican Plans to ban abortion, ban contraception, ban marriage equality, ban history books, ban dissent, and ban corporations that don't agree with them; none of which fixes inflation."

I'll add that with majorities Republicans repeatedly told us that their number one priority wasn't to fix all the issues they claimed were failures of the Biden administration: inflation, crime or border security. Their number one priority was going to be to launch punitive "investigations" at those people within gov't that opposed them. What they were proposing was vengeance politics.

All this plus what they have revealed of themselves requires more diligence and a more informed and engaged electorate. The 2024 election season has already begun.

Once again you have said what I was thinking so much more eloquently than I could. And I do wake up several times per night and see if there is anything new in the Hoobs/Lake race, because Katie Lake is such an extreme denier, and 1 of the few left in the mix of possible people to hold office. I do feel gladdened that most of the deniers went down to defeat. I do take some solace and feelings of calm that at least the Senate is Blue, and will remain so even if the former football player, unqualified for any government job, somehow pulls off a victory. If he does, though, that would shake my faith in the voters of GA. Maybe now that the Senate is clearly Blue, those who were running to GA, Like Cruz, to help the campaign, will be less likely to do so. I would like to think we are on the road back to some normality. However, from some things I read, DeSantis did some voter suppression in order to get this very large victory. and I worry about him equating himself with a God-like figure. Like it's good to have positive self esteem; but bring God and religion into one's self definition, seems to violate the separation of church and state, and also seems a bit much, ok, more than a bit much, in creating a positive image of oneself. If those views get to the White House, and combine them with SCOTUS, which clearly makes decisions based on Christian values, violating separation of church and state. The SCOTUS view of women's right not to choose violates my religious views as a Jewish person. So, I worry about what is happening to our separation of church and state. Maybe you can reassure me that soon this SCOTUS bias will be in the rearview mirror as they take stock of how the American electorate addressed that issue in their midterm voting. Of course, tomorrow night is the big announcement at Mar-A-Lago. Is this going to stir things up again. I'm hoping it will fall flat on GOP who are hoping to move on, especially after the message of the midterm elections. I also think this could have a negative effect on the possibility that the ex-football player in GA in the runoff on Dec 6. And thank you again for your support and providing an almost daily political therapy session.

Well you were right about the election so you are right about this. I will have my tea and watch them fight with each other while the rest of us try to get things done. But….Merrick Garland has to keep working and indict 45 ..

Steven, my take is that the DOJ and Garland have a master plan. New York Attorney General Letitia James has filed charges against Trump for fraud. He is at the centre of multiple investigations by Federal prosecutors and the IRS. The denouement is coming, as the false foundation literally collapses under all-thing-Trump. I can see it....

What if the BIG announcement on Tuesday turns out to be like the BIG health plan to be announced in two weeks? Wouldn't that be the cat's meow?

Probably wishful thinking, but hey . . . . .

Very well-written, Steven. I think FOX and friends became consumed by their fervent desire for ultimate power, at any cost. As I see it, 'individual 1' perpetuated dangerous rhetoric that took off on a wild trajectory into the alternative facts MAGA-world. Trump is a political arsonist with a very short fuse. He will go down in the flames of dishonesty and dissent he created. Karmic destiny is coming in for a VERY hard landing on the reality tarmac.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not seeing Garland do squat. It's up to the Georgia AG at this point to do anything.
