Yes. I join Jane in thanking you for your excellent essay..but above all, stay safe! I’m so sorry you’ll have to endure both a real blizzard and a blizzard of lies on Tuesday night! It looks like quite a storm is forecast for the East Coast. One for the ages. Seems to be the order of the day. Trump cannot wish alway this storm, nor the storm of public opinion that is brewing!

The winter of discontent for sure. ❄️🤬

Thank you, Mr. Beschloss. Take care. Safe travels.

Since I live in South Jersey, I woke up this morning to a white world. There’s a large white lump in my parking space, and I know my car is under there somewhere. It’s still coming down, quite heavily.

Fortunately, I prepared for this over the weekend. I have everything I need, and I even have bread, milk and eggs. A family joke is when we share remarks about having the ingredients for French toast.

I hope others are as comfortable as I am right now. We still have electricity, and I hope it stays that way, but we could lose it at any time.

Stay safe. Northern NJ here. A lot of shoveling in our near future.

BabsPHL's avatar

Yeah, and dopeydon will be shoveling all of it Tuesday night

steven beane's avatar

...and it won't be snow.

I’m 85, so someone else has a lot of shoveling to do. Fortunately, it’s supposed to go up to 50 degrees on Thursday, so it won’t hang around like the last batch.

This oligarchy is all about delivering very-short-term financial gains to a favored few at the cost of middle-term pain to all the rest of us. By the time those expensive consequences come to roost, they’ll be long gone.

Be well, be safe…and have a shot of tequila while you watch the SOTU. I just wish the entire Dem caucuses in both houses would boycott it. He hates a small crowd.

I would love the supremes to drop the 2 rulings we are all waiting for, today, if they are not in pedo/predator's favor... tomorrow night will be raucous if they do and it is

I realize that your work necessitates you watch the SOTU. I thank you for enduring it on behalf of those of us who either refuse to give that miscreant the attention he craves or simply cannot stomach it. Nothing Trump says will be meaningful unless he announces—as he well might— a preemptive strike on Iran. Or a decision to demolish the White House and replace it with Mar a Lago North.

Thanks as always Steven. Be safe and I hope you get home as soon as possible. Looking forward to your writings on the SOTU as I cannot bear to watch it. I hope even more Democrats in Congress boycott it.

There’s an alternative to the SOTU. It’s called the State of the Swamp, and will have over 40 great speakers. You can stream it free at defiance.org. Rep. Eric Swallwell, Glenn Kirschner, Miles Taylor, Joanne Carducci, and many others will be there. It’s at the Washington Press Club. It begins at 7 pm.

I’m in Connecticut, where we’re having a bomb cyclone. Almost two feet of snow in my backyard this morning, and it’s still coming down. Thank you for enduring the SOTU so I don’t have to. I’m sure it will be a torrent of lies and ugliness.

I will join the Democrats who will boycott the SOTU. I cannot stand to listen to that voice any longer. I wake up each morning hoping for a state funeral.

Hi!

Colorado here 58 -60 degrees; yes, our Climate Change impacts.

Nice not to shovel though.. but can cause winter fire danger. 😵‍💫

Thanks for checking in with some “color” commentary- white.

May you, Steven, and all the millions of others who are affected by this storm, stay safe!

Incidentally, there are alternatives to having your blood pressure soar by watching an undiluted feed of the madman delivering his "State of the Union." You could, for example, watch a rebuttal to be livestreamed at 7.00 p.m. EST from the National Press Club in Washington DC. This event is being organized by Defiance.org. Please visit https://www.defiance.org/sotu for more information (including the list of guest speakers) and to register to watch for free. The livestream, incidentally, will be available on Defiance.org, YouTube and Substack.

Steven, I hope you are grounded in CHI til Wednesday, so you don't have to do penance for the cheap crap CIC - commander in complicity - will lash out with on Tuesday; I'll be busy watching paint dry, and catch the retreads on Wed. morning, a feat that I hope most writers, talking heads, blaring headlines would do as well. But they have to catch ratings, hope they cut to the smart people staying far away from the noise.

Thanks Steven: The destruction of the planet is well on its way with greedy self centered types leading the country, The fossil fuel cabal has got to be shut right down. Its the end of February on the South West Coast of Canada and we still have not had any snow. We need it for our water supply. I have noticed over the last decade the changes in weather patterns. I may start my garden in March. Not sure if I am going to watch the blizzard of BS Tuesday night.

I'm always about staying informed, especially in these neo-Authoritarian days we live in--but as for me and what I'll be doing on Tuesday night it won't be watching another shit-bird speech. At this point I've gotten where I just can't stomach or tolerate any more toxic lies, distortions and gas lighting from a dementia ridden idiot that is exercising identical dictatorial moves as any other tin-pot despot in their ascendancy. Thank you for writing about the continual conservative move of denial concerning climate change, and why it's happening, while the evidence is all around us every day.
