Two normal, happy people…positive and hopeful. I think many people will love them. So refreshing and a stark contrast to the other side!

Super great choice! Gov. Waltz is a real person who lives in a business state where people can make a living and kids have lunch at school!

Folksy... Non threatening. Everyone's favorite uncle vs crazy uncle. And he looks so 1950s Republican. Happy Days really are here again. The storm clouds part. A bright blue sky emerges with a golden sun.

I now have REM’s “Shiny Happy People” (with the superb Kate Pierson) playing in my head for some reason.

Tim Walz was a standout speaker on the White Dudes call. He's such a stark contrast to the rude, insulting, strange, dog and cat hating Trump World cult. Tim has a Humane Society video everyone should watch. A NORMAL, kind, smart, no bullshit, man.

Tim Walz is a man who loves cats and dogs. A Normal, kind, smart, respectful patriot. Don't let the bastards knock him down. When they attack Tim Walz they are telling you who they are. You will know that they sold their sacred honor to the haters of America.

Here's the video about Tim's rescue cat.

YES! A great choice. A decent, enlightened man with a sense of humor. A former teacher (thank you, Kitty).

Tim Walz, who will complement Kamala Harris wonderfully, will help her to inject humor and purpose into the campaign.

Let the waltz begin.

Well Steve, asI have been saying all along on other Substacks where the question of VP comes up, I have maintained that Tim Walz is EVERYBODY'S FAVORITE UNCLE!!!!!

Woo hoooo!!! I would've been happy with any of the known contenders, but Walz was my favourite for all the reasons you've stated! I could not have imagined a month ago ever feeling hopeful about American politics again. I know it's going to be a shit-show between the election and the inauguration, but I am done letting the christian nationalist neo-nazis drag me down. We are going to win this thing with hard work, honesty, integrity, inclusion, sound policies, and JOY! I understand the assignment and am ready to go!

This is my favorite line, Steven: "He’s down-to-earth, the guy next door, the neighbor you bump into in the hardware store and are glad you did. "

As someone who is "Hopelessly Midwestern" (to quote a Joel Mabus song) I too am delighted. He is the governor of my current state and what I know is that he and his indigenous (Anishnaabe) LG, Peggy Flanagan, have gone about the business of governance with high visibility and democratic values. I know this because most of the times I notice them in the news it makes me glad that they are in charge.

And It is just so darned familiar, the way he goes about the world, which is why I pulled out the line I did!

I agree with Steven’s take on this! It’s interesting that first, there were so many excellent candidates for VP and second, Ms. Harris was so open about it. My ideal in all of this is that she can take those five others who were candidates to run with her for the Presidency and parlay their influence within their constituencies to gain support for the general election. One of the questions I would have asked each of them would have been “If you’re not selected, would you be willing to bring your influence to bear to help us take the Presidency and defeat Trump in the general election?” I’m guessing that each of them would be “all in”.

This is a very smart choice. Congrats to Kamala and Dem committee for seeing this through past handsome Mr Shapiro. Not his time.

I honestly don’t understand what is so sleazy about Josh Shapiro. Kamala has known him for years and obviously was seriously considering him so she must not see the sleazy part. Or is it that you don’t like that he’s Jewish, so you just say sleazy??

Expand full comment
kdsherpa's avatar

Part of my family is Jewish, so that's most certainly not why I used that word! To me, he feels aggressive and too "smooth" -- "sleazy" is probably the wrong word. I'll change it.

Two products of state schools of higher ed vs Ivy Leaguers (who ask us to thumb our noses at the "educated elite" - Hypocrisy much?}. This will be a campaign of joy. Sure, there are going to be rough spots. But Harris/Walz have such a positive vision for the United States - you can't help but have a little spring in your step.

I'm going to learn to dance! The waltz, of course.

It's so refreshing to see happy faces that aren't orange, to hear optimism and actual, positive plans for our future. I feel like smiling again, and can finally sleep.

I have hope! ❤️
