What a curious time! The only Republicans who stand up for democracy have been booted out (Cheney, Kinzinger), retired (Romney) or dead (McCain). The rest are intransigent MAGA or hiding.
I salute Liz Cheney's courage in calling out Trump's criminality. May she set an example for all of us to follow.
Initially, I was of the opinion that President Biden should issue blanket pardons. But why should anyone who stands for truth and justice require a pardon? Anyone accepting a pardon for doing so would be showing weakness and fear.
Let Trump and his acolytes go after the multitudes he considers to be his enemies. It will allow those of us who care about the Constitution to have the opportunity of standing up for justice and fighting his lies. But we will need to stay united: there is safety in numbers.
Thankfully, there are historians in other countries all over the world who have witnessed and documented this time in history and whose works will not be denied by the rest of the world... even if trump tries to ban everything circulated in the US
What a profile in courage. Would that the spineless, MAGA toadies in Congress had one percent of the courage the women in this sordid tale have. The names Liz, Sarah, Cassidy, Ruby and Shaye will shine in history. The names Marco, Mitch, Kevin, Ted and a bunch of others will be treated like the slime they are.
My "like" button doesn't work. But I want you to know that I agree with you 100%. I am not shocked at the spinelessness at this point. That would be beyond naive. It would be
willful blindness. I'm just continually disgusted by the unending examples of cowardice. Is it coincidence that those who show decency and courage are women, and those who enthusiastically submit are men? I will not delve further into this in this post. But only say that there is much to account for.
I would hope the press starts asking GOP Senators and Patel for their specific views on the Jan 6 arrest idea. Smoke them out. The press is useless and afraid of their shadow. Maybe they will step up on this topic.
It's going to be a long 4 years. I'm thankful we have leaders like Liz Cheney to show us how to stand up to Trump's abuse of office. We must have their backs and do everything we can to take back the House and Senate so his worst abuses can be held in check.
Each one of us is also an”historian.” We saw what Trump’s “Unite the Right” goons did in Charlottesville, what they tried to do in other jurisdictions. We are Americans. The Constitution is part of our DNA. Neither Trump nor his goons nor all those who voted for him can take that away from us. Donald Trump is a coward disguised as a coward.
Chinese philosopher/Warrior Sun Tzu: "An evil man will burn his own nation to the ground to rule over the ashes." I often refer to that quote because I find it so fitting.
The operatives of evil and sinister soon will take center stage. The disgraceful reality is how they seek to harm and destroy our republic. This is a dark and perilous time for our country. We must keep courage and bolster faith in our system. We cannot afford to allow "them" to walk all over us. Those who supported "them" are about to have a rude, crude and unfortunate awakening.
A powerful response for a brave woman and she deserves the support of all Americans for standing up to Trump and his threats. Outrage should fil fill the streets of America to stop him if he tries to execute these threats. She and her colleagues don't need a pardon because they have not committed any crime. A pardon would raise unnecessary suspicions. They should be honoured by Biden as heroes instead.
It's truly incomprehensible how anyone with integrity believes or stands by such a liar. The heroes of this world, such as those who sat on the J6 committee, are the type of leaders we need to confront the evil axis within the US.
What a sad irony, in January trump, the convicted felon, is inaugurated for a four year term as President of the United States, although my money is on him…or a successor, not leaving the office, and we begin our four plus year sentence! The only thing we will be lacking is a cell, a striped suit and a tin cup!
It is hard to believe half the country no longer believes what their eyes saw. Should trump pardon those in jail, they will be a handy bunch for Patel to call upon to help do his dirty work. I have hardly heard a word other than those of Cheney & Kinzinger. Haven't even heard a peep from Harris since she lost.I doubt he can legally put them all away unless he reverts to Putin methods.
Sometimes I wonder if trump says such things just to keep the riff raff agitated & to hear himself gloat, to puff himself up when deep within, he knows he's a fraud.
It is actually less than one third of the country who support him. Well over a third didn’t vote, and just 1.5% less than the winner voted for Kamala. That is nowhere near a ‘mandate’.
Steven; Bravo to Liz Cheney for strength, courage, and devotion to our Democracy!
An excerpt from your words:
“While Trump has falsely claimed that the committee “deleted and destroyed all evidence” during its investigation, the fact is that the committee released a highly detailed 800-page report and published all of its evidence online. That includes 140 transcripts of testimony plus a wide variety of memos, emails and voice messages. Don’t doubt that Trump will do everything he can to expunge that record when he gets back into the White House.”

An acceptance of a pardon is an admission of guilt. Surely Liz Cheney and others like her won't touch a pardon.

Let’s hope there are many more sincere and truthful individuals that will refuse to be put down by Trumps lies.
Liz Cheney is an heroic figure for standing up for the truth in spite of the threats against her .

The irony of this is jaw dropping.

Have you heard a word from The Felon's running mate... it's been so long I can't remember his name.
It is actually less than one third of the country who support him. Well over a third didn’t vote, and just 1.5% less than the winner voted for Kamala. That is nowhere near a ‘mandate’.
I also haven’t seen or heard from Kamala Harris. I am worried.
The word mandate has several meanings. Did I use that word?

She is one hard headed woman. I admire her courage and honesty.
