Great tune. Thanks. It fits the moment, as does Paul Simon’s “America.” We are a great people, with flaws and failings, yes, but a people of great hope because of a great idea: the Idea of America.
Thank you for this song and for your reflections. While I’m feeling weary and sad, I’m also feeling hopeful that tomorrow will send a clear signal that the American people have had enough.
Let us all make sure, through our participation tomorrow, that we inscribe the date - June 14, 2025 - into the history books as the day on which we started to turn the gathering gloom of fear and lies into a blaze of righteous truth.
We owe no less to those who came before us and to those who come after.
Perhaps it’s simply work exhaustion tho I think not as tears flow listening, reading. Tomorrow - 6/14/2025 - feels like an important day to remember, in hopes it won’t be LA or more, 1/6/2021 writ large. Thoughts of safety to all. May Sunday find us all and our country in tact enough to move on.
Yes, Steven I will be participating in the daylight of June 14’s Flag Day and the NO KINGS DAY protest in Provo, Utah- - “ for a great uplifting event that can remind us of a nearly 250-year-old democratic tradition.”
I will be observing my 80th year of American Freedom, following in the footsteps & patriotism of my paternal grandparent’s who took advantage and helped create a township during the Oklahoma Land Run of 1893… and the democratic activism of my father in the early 1950’s. I learned from them well and am grateful for the patriotic values they lived and shared.
I will be holding my resistance poster proudly while also thinking of my children/grandchildren & young great-grand-kiddos. Regretfully, they will not be participating- - nor do they support my social activism currently. It is disheartening and, at times, unbearable.
But, the day IS critically important and significant because I too believe “ we are at an inflection point after this week’s alarming events.” I wish each of us peace in our hearts as we demonstrate our resistance to the cruel Trump regime.
The musical words I’ll be humming are “This land is made for you and me,” by Woody Guthrie circa 1944.
At this point he has no foreign or domestic successes. This No Kings Day is our opportunity to capture the momentum as the WH failures piled up this week.
• Blatant overreach in LA with threats to other cities and protesters based on lies. There is a good chance the decision by Judge Breyer will hold on appeal.
• Manhandling, removing & handcuffing a US Senator who tried to ask Noem a question - supported it with lies.
• A military parade fulfilling the president’s wish for a parade like France’s Bastille Day that happens to fall on his birthday & appears to celebrate the militarization of America.
• The president’s approval numbers among registered voters dropped to 38%. How he’s handled immigration issues is now underwater at 43% according to Quinnipiac.
74% think international students at US universities is a good thing.
54% disapprove of how he’s handled universities.
64% want a continuation of all people born in the US having automatic (birth right) citizenship.
He’s losing on every front. That’s why yesterday the TACO president promised changes for farm & hotel workers. It’s too tuff on their employers.
Um, Do you think Kristi Noem knows that California is an overwhelmingly BLUE, DEMOCRATIC state? Hmmm....wow. They feel the need to be "liberated"? California is about as liberal as a state gets, I'm thinkin'....
Oh, yes. I think she knows. That’s why they started there with these tactics. My suspicion is the comments were made to rile up ‘the libs’ and justify the anti-state’s rights actions to maga with the old evil socialists line. I think it was intentional. By extensions its sets the stage for accepting how members of CA leadership are treated - like Sen. Padilla.
Instead what she did is expose the fact that it is all political & has nothing to do with violence in the streets or immigrant laws.
“We are staying here to liberate this city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor had placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city.”
I also don’t think it was a coincidence that DJT had been spending social media time touting Gov Newson as a terrible person wanting to be a presidential candidate.
I realize her words were chosen carefully. I just wondered if she realized how pathetic she sounded stating that Californians needed to be "liberated". So dumb. I mean really, Kristi? No liberation needed or requested. Californians are feeling quite comfy in their liberal, groovy states...
She knows exactly what she is doing & does not care one bit about those who think it pathetic, dumb, etc. It is deliberate like other things she’s done.
There is a specific audience and purpose. That is all that matters. The actual job now of Trump appointees is 24/7 propaganda.
The more outrageous the better. Outrageous is part of this WH brand. Kash Patel, Bongino, Hegselth, RFK, Jr., etc. I put it in the same bucket as “eating cats & dogs”; 2000 Mules “documentary”; Biden being replaced in office by a clone. Absurd, pathetic, dumb — and dangerous.
Everyone knows CA is liberal. Some areas less than others. A common view in trumplandia is that California is run socialists - dangerous socialists who take away people’s rights. She’s playing to them & trump. She’s messaging those in trumplandia who believe in state rights & not the military on city streets — that it must be done to fight the socialists.
"Um, Do you think Kristi Noem knows that California is an overwhelmingly BLUE, DEMOCRATIC state? Hmmm....wow. They feel the need to be "liberated"? California is about as liberal as a state gets, I'm thinkin'...."
THIS was sarcasm. I was pointing out how ridiculous Noem was. Like Californians needed to be "liberated." It was a play on how "liberal" they are to begin with. They didn't want or ask to be "liberated" from anything or anyone. I"m sorry you didn't pick up on the sarcasm.
FYI, take a look at my profile pic, it was taken the morning after Obama-Biden were re-elected. It was President Obama giving me a hug and thank you for all my hard work. I'm not UNaware of what's going on. I'm really not. So, seriously, you don't need to school me on it, although I appreciate your passion.
Take Care. Stay safe. Keep fighting. I'm off to a protest.
I love Paul Simon and, of course, Simon & Garfunkel. Don't know if I've told this story here. In college in the sixties one of our friends worked for the college radio station. He gave us a record the station had received as a promo, because his manager thought it no one would like it, so he wasn't going to put it on the air. The album: Wednesday Morning 3 AM. I still have it.
It is going to be an eventful day tomorrow, Steven...I haven't demonstrated since the 60s at CCNY but we're planning to be in Mt Kisco....should be great!
Thank you, Steven. Rest up, we’ve got a country to save today. It’s the wee hours of the 14th and I’m praying that We The People show up in numbers that cannot be ignored.

For whatever reason I just know we shall get through this
Wonderful song.
Paul Simon 🤗
Rest up for tomorrow.
I’m in good company here with people with, hearts, brains and souls.
This can be one of anthems for this movement
Thank you Steven

Um, just FYI, I was being a bit...sarcastic.
I see. Well ‘a bit’ of sarcasm doesn’t translate well on the internet. There is a solution for that. “ /s “
My belief is her words were dangerous as are those of their ‘dear leader.’ My thoughts did not go to humor or sarcasm.
Today MN has 2 lawmakers & the spouse of one who were victims of gunshots by someone impersonating law enforcement. One dead. 2 expected to live.
It is what their propaganda leads too.

Okay Ann. I will say this one more time.

Perfect song for this time. Watching what happened to sitting elected US Senator Padilla yesterday took a whole lot out of me.

Where can one find the full video of Leslie’s performance?
To my knowledge, he only shared this clip.
