In a sane world, Trump's letter to Norway would be the final straw, convincing responsible leaders to invoke the 25th Amendment. Instead, we can expect more madness ahead.
As a European I say we must fight Trump. I sincerely hope we don't end up having to fight America, but...if the Americans don't want to fight Trump, we may have no choice
How about many millions on the streets all over the world? People like you, who have some cache, could put out something like this:
How about a coup? I see a presidential team. Let's say Heather Cox Richardson, Joyce Vance, Anne Applebaum, and Marianne Williamson, my picks among other great women. And maybe more than four. Just picture intelligent, human-loving human beings leading the way. If they stated they are taking charge, I bet so many would be on the streets all over the world to support that, that they couldn’t be thwarted
For something even more radical, but maybe clever enough:
We can "expect more madness ahead" because Congress is totally dysfunctional. The naked cowardice displayed by John Thune and Mike Johnson, the quintessential spineless eunuchs, assures us there will not be a fast conclusion to this. Theirs is fecklessness on steroids.
On the other side of the aisle, the Minority side, we witness two Brooklynites who talk a lot but offer little if anything of substance. In the wake of the passing of the Greatest Generation, we have the weakest generation. Schumer pontificates while Jeffries prattles on. Career politicians both, one must conclude they are hedging their bets for political survival. America does not have leaders. We have purveyors of oral flatulence. Their lack of all sense of leadership is altogether appalling.
It is well past time to invoke the 25th Amendment. I’m sorry! Did I hear that right? Ya damned straight you did! The fate of an entire population of 340 million hangs in the balance. We wait with baited breath.
It doesn’t matter what time it is. The process originates with the VP and Dear Leader’s Cabinet. And he can appeal to Congress where a 2/3 majority is required in each chamber.
Compare that to impeachment & conviction which can bring removal that failed 2x and only requires a majority to impeach in the House and a 2/3 majority in the Senate.
I see a ray of hope in the 5 GOP that very recently trotted off to Europe to reassure them 💠 THE HILL also says Thom Tillis is leading a charge to thwart Trump :
— Tillis made waves last week when he announced he would 🔻 block any future nominees to the Federal Reserve 🔻after the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington opened a criminal investigation into Powell.
His statement came less than 20 minutes after the Fed released an extraordinarily rare video statement from the chair.
Tillis sits on the powerful 🔹Senate Banking Committee,🔹 which has a 12-10 party split, meaning his opposition can * doom administration nominees, including a potential replacement for Powell once his term is up in May.” https://apple.news/Aqet17xK_T4ePiJaPVicm6w
I have just re-read the 25th Amendment, the one whose purpose is the prevention of a mentally unfit insane man like Trump from continuing as President. While it is tempting to castigate the authors for endowing responsibility for executing said amendment to the Cabinet, the very people who owe their jobs to the insane President, the same would have to be said of the framers of the Constitution. The safeguards they built into our government have all failed as well. While the founders could foresee the possibility that the Supreme Court, Congress and the Cabinet would all be lead by corrupt individuals, they could devise no safeguard against that eventuality. Thus, Franklin’s famous statement when asked what form of government the framers devised: “A Republic-if you can keep it.” It turns out we could not. As the Supreme Court has effectively overturned the Constitution and the Congress has essentially abolished itself, there is no legal bar preventing the dissolution the present Union and allowing each state to decide on its own future. One way or another, the country will not survive another 3 years of this insanity.
… not in its current configuration, no. But I see a ray of hope in the 5 GOP that very recently trotted off to Europe to reassure them … THE HILL also says Thom Tillis is leading a charge to thwart Trump :

Handwriting on the wall and all that. Still, Bill Cassidy in a similar situation prefers to abase himself further rather than stand up on his hind legs
I take your point. But there are no words on paper that can dissuade cultists. The voters did this & the Senate is complicit for not doing their duty. It confirmed the Cabinet nominees based on nothing more than what Dear Leader wanted. A much lower bar than probably any other Cabinet.
If you re-read the Amendment you saw that the president could appeal to Congress if the Cabinet invoked the 25th. The House and Senate would each be required to agree by a 2/3 vote. If those votes were available, impeachment with a penalty of removal & not holding future office would be much easier.
Imagine you’re in the Cabinet and invoke this process but Congress fails to uphold it. It would spur a whole new retribution campaign. Even if they wanted to, they do not have the guts to invoke it.
I should have added that Cabinet members have not always been spineless wet noodles even in the US. In other countries, when the Constitution was written & in more modern times, the inner circle of advisors to a leader were where coups could originate. While those closest to a president would know if he was able to function the power to remove could also be a weapon. The Cabinet is not chosen by the people. Therefore that power was balanced with the appeal to Congress which is supposed to be the people’s voice.
In a sane world, a man with a proveable history of sexually abusing and assaulting women and girls would not be president of the US. He would be locked away from society and serving many years for his crimes. The E. Jean Carroll case proved his abnormal behavior - he sexually attacked her in a store's dressing room. His "Hush Money" trial convinced the public that he was no only guilty of 34 felony charges, but that he attempted to cover up his releationship with Stormy Daniels - an adult film star and prostitute - one of several relationships where he cheated on his wife. And his one and only friend in the whole world for 15 years was Jeffrey Epstein who operated an underage international sex ring. So the obvious fact is that we are NOT living a sane world, but one that has been morally distorted and criminally destroyed. Yet there are thousands of Southern Christians in the US, who still believe that Trump is a good man. Yes, God help us - especially whose minds have been irrepairablly bent to believe that Trump is "normal."
I did not think that threatening an ally with domination because a bizarre person didn't get an award for pretending to stop 8 wars, was a conservative value or that maintaining normal international relations with a sovereign country was some type of liberal value.
Only 28 Democrats and Bernie Sanders said No Bessent's nomination as Secretary of the Treasury. Yes, the Republicans had enough members in the Senate to assure Bessent would be in Trump's Cabinet. However, the same Democrats who are in the news wanting to Fight Trump and send letters begging for money to Fight Trump, are the very one who approved a Cabinet unwilling to invoke the 25th Amendment and even encourage Trump's outrageous behavior. Ask BOOKER, KELLY, GALLEGO, KAINE, SLOTKIN AND WARNER to stand up to Trump by working with Republicans to retire Mr. Trump. They are responsible - as are the Republicans.
To be kind: Congratulations to Bessent for his rapid recovery from the bilateral orchiectomy! Good to see the old shit-eating grin back … because there’s a ton of shit more he’s going to eat in the next three years
Just finished my company required training on Anti-Harassment and Discrimination. It used to be that the training applied across society. But no longer to the US Government either internally or in our foreign relations. 😡
I've wondered if Republicans and the nonplussed Democrats (far too many) are worried about MAGA people who threaten their lives. It doesn't stop Omar, or Crockett, or Ocasio-Cortez. It does stop all the men though.
Bessent's voice seems like a practiced effort to sound a certain way--like what he imagines an intellectual to sound like. Instead, it is clear that he too, is a stupid man. He isn't the only one though. Just think about how many hands that crazy letter had to go through to get to the Prime Minister. How impotent, feckless, stupid, useless, enraging and unforgiveable of Rubio, and the rest as well.
I see a ray of hope in the 5 GOP that very recently trotted off to Denmark to reassure them … THE HILL also says Thom Tillis is leading a charge to thwart Trump :

He is deranged, utterly mad; He also has the nuclear codes at his beck and call. To launch an attack, to sell to his friend Putin… This is an extremely dangerous place to be stuck into.
I thought this was a brilliant statement from someone on another site:
“A superpower is [dying by] suicide because the [Republican] Congress is too cowardly to stand up to the Mad King."
For someone who is a draft dodger he certainly is fascinated with the military.
Draft dodging is now a conservative value since their guy did it.
As long as he does not have to do the fighting.
Yeah, the draft dodger stands behind the courage of others.
As a European I say we must fight Trump. I sincerely hope we don't end up having to fight America, but...if the Americans don't want to fight Trump, we may have no choice
There has been way too much appeasement. As JB Pritzker put it: "The only thing a bully understands is a punch in the face."

“The U.S. is back, and this is what U.S. leadership looks like.” How much more humiliation can we endure?
“If I said it, I was wrong.” That’s Bessent two days ago. How much can one man grovel?

I have heard Tillis speak on the issues. We need some very strong reps in Congress to show some fortitude and vision.

I'll take it for what it's worth. But ol' Thom saddled up on the truth only after deciding not to seek re-election.

I fear it may be too little too late but we’ll see.

Scott Bessent sounds stupid because he is defending things which are the opposite of what he knows to be true. I have no idea why he was nominated. Why he stays? The same reason as most of the others. https://campaignlegal.org/press-releases/ddf-and-clc-demand-investigations-treasury-secretary-scott-bessent-conflicts
