This was clear years ago: Trump hungered for total power and retribution, while extremist Republicans mocked liberal government and right-wing groups plotted a fascist takeover.
Here is the rebuttal to the run-away train that is the American regime. A gorgeous address from PM Mark Carney. Leading the way, perhaps leaving the US entirely behind. Very moving, inspiring. "It's time to take the sign out of the window."
What will it take for the traitorous enablers in Congress to join We the People who are fighting to rescue our democracy from this madness? An invasion of a NATO ally?
In the 1990s in Moscow, I lived in a building filled with KGB families. Their children befriended mine and I was invited to join these families for meals from time to time. They knew and shared information about Trump. I wrote my first book in 2017-2019, and it was intended as a warning to Americans about Trump and Russia. While it sold a few copies - about 1,000, the follow-up book on the market today sold better. Still, the American public then and now has no basic understanding of Putin's intentions toward the US, how he has used Trump to destroy our country, and the fact that Mr. Trump is a taitor. I guess it is hard to grasp that Americans voted for and supported a man who works for our enemy - but that's the truth. He was bought like a cheap suit and used as a pawn. So whether you think he is power-hungry and wants a dictatorship - he has been steered in that direction. He is not loyal to America, but to the man who pays his bills at Mar-a-logo.
In a 2016 Facebook post, I said he was a fascist. I meant that in the most literal way. I don't understand how 37% of the American people still approve of him. Do they really not see what he's doing, or do they want to live in a dictatorship?
Keeping up the fight is difficult in the midst of such darkness and terror.
Steven, I know you take no pleasure from this clear-eyed prophecy more than two years ago. It is truly stunning.
If you see this post, can you provide a link to this NYT article that you referenced: "A deeply disturbing New York Times story published Monday described in polite terms a plan for 'sweeping expansion of presidential power over the machinery of government,' what might be more accurately described as an aggressive effort underway to install dictatorship if Donald Trump retakes the White House."
Let us not disregard the outrageous display last night of the dementia that clearly has its grip on him. Posting private messages from the leaders of other countries; misidentifying the organization that bestows the Nobel Prize; rage tweeting about taking Greenland by force if Denmark balks at his offer to buy the territory. That the U.S. Senate allowed the confederacy of dunces to be confirmed to Cabinet positions is another outrage especially because not one of them has the cojones to invoke the 25th Amendment. Three more years of this hell. I hope we can survive it. One final thought, since you referenced the New York Times in your essay. I am at a loss to understand how that cadre of editors regularly sane-washed the nonsense and the lies and the ridiculous ideas that the Orange One spewed during his campaign. And now, the Times regularly prints editorials, wringing their hands watching this destruction of our Democracy. I lay a good percentage of the blame at the doorstep of the New York Times (and other publications, broadcast networks, and the U.S. Senate).
I was helping my 14 year old grandson study for his test on our government. The teacher has them pass our US Citizenship test, which anyone can find on-line. He lives with his mom, dad, and me as we share the nightly news about our growing fascist coup, so he's pretty up to speed. I knew what the problem was going to be as we began. The test asks "how the government is designed." The problem is that it no longer works that way, so making it multiple choice is a disservice to those knowing how far afield of our stated Constitutional rights we have come.
I've changed the questions a bit to make my point:
"Name a department in the executive branch.
A. Dept. of Defense B. Department of War C. Department of Interior D. Department of Treasury."
"What power does the President have?
A. Declare war
B. Execute laws
C. Sign bills
D. Raise taxes"
We will need re-education of our citizens as to how the government was so brilliantly designed to function, as well as restructuring what went awry over the past several decades politically, socially, economically to torture its function to the point of collapse.
How was it with people like you, who were inside enough to see what was coming? Why didnβt you stop it? Same question now. Where's some ideation about what we can do thatβs not just about elections? I look for that, so I know itβs in short supply.
My redo: The tragedy is that, despite the predictability, nothing was done to get everyone informed, where supporters of his who wouldnβt vote for him now would have had enough to vote against him in the election. Getting his transgressions understood by we the people is what can stop him.
To your question about why little was done to prevent this - look at how the NYTimes, broadcast networks, other publications sane-washed the crap coming out of his mouth that made it seem like was a respectable candidate. Anyone reading, listening or watching what the legacy media did to normalize him - thatβs where the problem lies.
100% Isn't it infuriating to watch TV and have no way to comment? And see the press treat the mad king as normal? Forget all our institutions. Somehow, we the people have get ourselves on a better track.
Commented upon this numerous times after his first go around and when the stooges didnβt want to loose his baseβ¦ And Now the Prime Minister of Canada so eloquently called a spade as a spade.,

Warning about TRUMP -
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within.
For the traitor appears not a traitor - He speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men.
He rots the soul of a nation--he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city-he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared."

And Canada emerges taking the sign out of the window and calling what it is.
Listening to a very good the "Red Wine and Blue" Zoom right now with HCR. While discussion/focus was on contacting sitting delegations, those of us in deep red states often face brick walls with our current representatives. Shouldn't we be equally focused on contacting congressional candidates? Engaging those running for office now is our best chance to build relationships with future leaders who actually value democracy. We need to lay the groundwork for change where the current representation refuses to listen.
β He (they) have βmoved fast and broke lots of thingsβ, which they thought wd disable democratic institutions and demoralize & incapacitate non-MAGA Americans β which it has, to a shocking degree.
But after the initial shock it is raising a mighty response in America and itβs allies.
We are moving beyond the initial stages of shock & grief & into anger, strategy & mobilization!
Trump & chumpβs βshock & aweβ strategy is backfiring β they were too fast & furious. π±

βThe tragedy is that, despite the predictability, most Americans failed to do their civic duty and ensure that this would not happen.
Only we, the people can stop it.β

I suspect theyβre stuck in the βThe enemy of my enemy is my friendβ mode.
β that is to say they hate certain liberal ideals more than they hate Trumpism:
esp the wedge SEX issues, abortion & racial equality.

Clarification: Dictatorship to loot the country and hand the remnants to Putin.

Good one! Thanks!
He makes me so sick, draft dodging fucking coward with his smarmy ass salute. No self-respecting soldier would follow that fuck.
Is it true that FOX blares 24/7 at army barracks?
* Yes, Iβm sorry we all have to witness this atrocity, it IS very galling.
