That this malignant delusion that has afflicted so many cease to exist.
“The loneliest moment in someone’s life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald
One can stare blankly, but if you are a politician and don't yell and scream instead, even though nothing can be done at the moment, the Dems might now primary you, even if you are one of their own, bizarre. It makes no sense.
They are saying essentially that if the headless chicken does not run around, well then, they are simply doing dead all wrong (sorry Joyce for the chicken reference).
That the Constitution and rule of law prevails. And that citizens will realize that if we want the freedoms the Constitution provides we have to work for them. Every day, right now.
I am a Daughter of The Mayflower and A Daughter of The American Revolution. My Mother raised me to believe that people were mostly good. I’d like to see the good in America again.
The overwhelming anger and fear coming from MAGA and The Heritage Foundation are trying to cut this nation to ribbons.
I am old enough to remember singing ‘America the Beautiful’ in elementary school at least weekly. ‘And crown thy good with BROTHERHOOD from sea to shining sea!’.
I am hopeful we form a new government that absolutely knows the purpose of government is to provide services to constituents. It is not to enrich the President and his Oligarchs.
I hope that younger people, with ideals, integrity and vision -come into our government and make things better than they were before. Not just go back to the way things were - but take the framework of what was there in our constitution and rebuild it into something even better. Many of the old laws need to be revamped ( eg. the electoral college). Maybe they could even have a new Consititional Convention - to keep what is special about our democracy, but to update it to meet the needs of people today.
Preferably female. I want a female president (a good one), before I die. I can’t believe that Pakistani, Israel, India, Mexico, and others can have female leaders but the US cannot.
Unfortunately, India's female leader developed authoritarian behavior. As my college Political Science instructor said at the time, "In the year of the woman, Indira Ghandi has given us our first woman dictator."
My maternal grandparents escaped from Ukraine when it was under Russian rule, which had been imposed by Catherine the Great, who had acquired the land from the Prussians. Of course, the native serfs were angry, who wouldn't be? My paternal side was part of the original settlements in Virginia from the 1600s and, at one time, owned a plantation or two. My first husband's family had been enslaved here. Oppression is a big subject for me. I have DNA from all sides of it. It's never good for anyone. So, what I want for America is the four freedoms that we have all, in one way or another, struggled with: freedom of speech and expression, freedom of Religion, freedom from want, and freedom from oppression. It's so simple. Honesty, integrity, my grandmother taught me all I need to know at our dinner table, which often sat 15 or so. Take all you want, but eat all you take. Don't take seconds until everyone else has had firsts. There is always room at the table for one more. Just shove on over a little. And when a hungry friend shows up at dinner time, it is FHB Family Hold Back. That is what I want for America.
Oh my goodness, you use FHB too! I haven't heard that in a long time. Perhaps it's Ukrainian? My grandmother came from the Pale of Settlement, Dmitrovka (Konotop). I wonder.
I saw a neighbor this morning on my way out to do errands. I’ve seen him before, we always say hello but we’ve never chatted. He had boxes he was carrying. We finally introduced ourselves - his name is Ozzie, and he told me that he’s moving back home to Puerto Rico tomorrow. “I cannot live in this place anymore, he is insane man.” I wished him well, told him to enjoy his family and friends back home. “You are nice lady. I also wish you well.”
Even though I barely know this man, I’m feeling upset about him moving out of the country.
I almost envy him, but I’ll stay to fight for my grandchildren.
i hope for the corrupt administration and all the enablers to finally get the "law and order" that they have coming to them. i am so tired of looking helplessly at Americans and people wanting to be Americans being deported or destroyed. the corruption is so blatant and so bad, how can it not be arrested?
I can't believe what is happening here .... it's so radical, so cruel, so absolutely wrong and so counter to the Constitution. I'm horrified by the hatred that people like Kristi Noem exhibit and the corruption, greed and obeisance that is part of the daily 'feed'. The spectacle at West Point was unbelievable. I hope that there is a mass 'awakening' and people come back to their senses about the fact that this is and was always meant to be a democracy and not a dictatorship. This will require courage and energy. I pray that the 'land of the free and the home of the brave' has a resurgence.
I pray for all elected servants and chosen servants to uphold our constitution. ...each and every time they have a vote, consider the out come for American citizens and our allies. They were chosen to represent us, not to be loyal to anyone or anything else.
That we rid ourselves of the corrupt Citizens United decision, that enables public corruption and foreign influence on a massive scale, and vote suppression in our elections. That our society learns to spot & reject disinformation, especially that which was designed to encourage their already amplified biases, that really only serves the very wealthy, at the expense of the rest of the nation.
So important that people understand the core malevolence contained in this one decision. It has always spelled the end to our representational democracy.
America was never perfect, but I hope that we can strive to be better, have equal justice under the law, welcome immigrants again, help the poor, children, the elderly.
I want America to get it's sh&t together! I want to solve the problems that have made people so angry they voted for the current occupant. I want the Dems and the Republicans to work together, not against each other. I want America to be kind again..... I could go on and on.
Democrats were willing to work with Republicans on an Immigration bill. The Republicans listened to Trump, and too many people in this country did not hold the Republicans and Trump to account. Democrats could not get the House Republicans to support the Inflation Reduction Act, yet the Republicans took credit for the infrastructure that came to their areas. Now the Republicans are trying to pass a bill without Democratic support that will cut services to those in need, give the wealthy huge tax breaks, and explode the deficit. All of this while a Republican president engages in extreme financial profiteering. Where are the Republicans to join with Democrats to hold him to account?
Spineless, apparently. I don't understand why they aren't standing up to this. They have to know this is wrong on many levels. I wrote letters to my Congressman and I got back a standard response. Let's hope they are voted out. I think it can happen!
That this malignant delusion that has afflicted so many cease to exist.
“The loneliest moment in someone’s life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald
That is quite a quote, Al. Apropos to everything.
Apropos of our moment, I think, for so many.
Your quote describes how I’m feeling as if it came from my own mouth, my own heart. I mourn what we’ve lost.
Exactly.
“Stare blankly” and cry
One can stare blankly, but if you are a politician and don't yell and scream instead, even though nothing can be done at the moment, the Dems might now primary you, even if you are one of their own, bizarre. It makes no sense.
They are saying essentially that if the headless chicken does not run around, well then, they are simply doing dead all wrong (sorry Joyce for the chicken reference).
That describes the very feeling that seems to have moved into my head without an invitation.
Said it best thank you for that quote..may the magas he threw under the bus not "stare blankly" but get up and push back

Right you are. Right now.

Well said!
And we stood…hand on heart…then pledged allegiance to our Flag! To all it represented!

A decent human being in the White House, male or female.
A simple and absolutely necessary hope.
I hope we can survive Trump and somehow stitch this country back together again because we are so torn apart.

So simple. So beautiful. So true.
I love this!
Let America Be America Again
by Langston Hughes
"Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed—
Let it be that great strong land of love
Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme
That any man be crushed by one above.
...
"Out of the rack and ruin of our gangster death,
The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies,
We, the people, must redeem
The land, the mines, the plants, the rivers.
The mountains and the endless plain—
All, all the stretch of these great green states—
And make America again!"
That the millions who voted for #mangomussolini or didn't vote, come to their sences.
Love #mangomussolini
I call him The Count of Mostly Crisco. 🤣

Seemingly small events like this can symbolize all the losses we’re enduring. Plus you’re losing the chance to know another human. 🤗
Puerto Rico is a territory of the US. He’s leaving the mainland. I’ve been wishing I had somewhere to go…
Me too. But how pathetic am I to feel like I’m losing a friend? I barely know this man, and I already miss him.
