In 1973 I saw the musical Godspell. The song, "On The Willows", started running through my head as I read his speech. He was a remarkable man, who endured so much. So much of his speech is still playing out today. Will we ever rise above all of the hate and discrimination? Do we even want to strive to be a more perfect union, or will we sink back into the past? If Mr. Douglass could hope, so should we.
