Thanks, Steven & Neera: A great podcast. Very informative. For some folks in the Biden era, it was tough sledding. The economy was getting better, and then along comes the fixer, Trump gave the folks someone to hate, "they are eating your pets", "they are taking your jobs", he and only he can fix it, bring down the cost of living, clean up the border. Deport the illegal immigrants Trump has the ability to make one feel like a loser, and he, being a smart businessman and the great master of deals, will make them the winners they always wanted to be. The folks bought the ticket and put the master of deception in the White House. Slowly, the deception is wearing off, and the faithful MAGA voters are disappearing.,
He promised to "make America affordable again", end inflation, reduce crime & no more wars. Then tied his scapegoats to those issues.
Fortunately many if not most of his voters were not faithful maga voters. A big chunk were disillusioned with both parties; seldom voted or unregistered who were hopeful but soon disappointed. Although his approval among Republicans is still very high, it is down 15%. There was a strategy used by Musk’s group & other allied pro-trump groups to focus on the unlikely eligible voters & get them to the polls. Some were young voters. These were the 1st ones who began to drive Drumpf’s approval ratings down. As you say MAGA shrank too. The only ones left are the ones who either won’t admit a mistake or aren’t suffering from the regime’s policies.
Every election we have more new voters with fading memories of his first term. An entire generation coming up which has only the vaguest idea of what government is about; how it is supposed to work & why it matters. They are getting a crash course in why it matters.
Thanks for platforming Neera and the work she does. She has such a positive attitude and fantastic ideas on democracy. This was very thought provoking and informative. Such a great narrative on how to face a bully and not give him air. It is heartwarming that America is slowly waking up to the hateful narrative they bought and fighting for democracy. We still have an uphill slog, but we are getting there and Neera exudes that hope and direction. Thanks Steven!
