I am so glad to hear laughter instead of whining, happiness rather than gloom, cheerfulness instead of despair, optimism rather than doom!

President Biden made a very difficult decision which initially made me sad, but the change in the tenor of this campaign has been so uplifting and refreshing that I no longer dread watching the news.

Much of the press treated President Biden with disrespect and dishonesty, ignoring (for years) his competitor's age, lies, stumbles, and criminal convictions as if these didn't matter. As I've said before, it was "but her emails" all over again.

We owe President Biden a debt of gratitude for his steady, thoughtful leadership, and his patriotism, when he declined to run for the good of the nation. He strengthened our nation and economy at the time it was in dire need of it. Thank you, President Biden.

I hope (what a wonderful feeling!) that we can as a nation embrace a very accomplished woman who has a great laugh and a sense of humor, sorely lacking in the Republican party. It's a welcome change.

In the meantime, I'm off to the grocery store to stock up on cat food and coconuts! 🐈 🌴

Joe and Kamala are providing a massive lesson in statesmanship, and a stark reminder of how far so many have fallen. What a week!

It’s so good to look around and see people smiling and laughing, it wasn’t like that a week ago. The whole country seems to have become more upbeat overnight.

Joe Biden’s sacrifice is more than I expected, but I’m not really surprised, because he has always put the good of the people as his goal as president. Thank you Joe, you are a hero!

I have never seen Trump laugh.

Expand full comment

Come to think of it, neither have I. And I think I've only seen him genuinely smiling (as opposed to his trademark smug grin and his sarcastic smirk) once or twice. But then, psychopaths do not process emotions like normal people do.

He only laughs at people - not with them...

I’m given to call him Grump the grouch. Kamala won’t do that but we certainly can.

He only growls and grunts. What a miserable person he is.

I heard somewhere - and I wish I could remember where I heard it - that Trump was taught as a little boy by his father never to laugh - that it was a sign of weakness.

Thank you, Steven. The disbelief and apprehension I felt when President Biden first announced he was race have been replaced by giddy optimism. Now, with Barack and Michelle Obama's endorsements, the sky is the limit.

Ant thought on when we might hear those endorsements? Timing is everything.

The video of them calling Kamala Harris and telling her on the phone is out this morning 😊

Omg. Thank you.

“Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy cometh in the morning.” What more can I say? I’m SO excited!!!! She is just what I needed…a reminder that joyless work is not our portion…and that her candidacy represents what’s been missing in our politics for such a long time. Joy, joy, JOY!!!

Who could not enjoy wholehearted laughter or a beautiful natural glowing smile? It is time to put the haters in their place and send them back to their hides holes where they belong!

I am excited and eager to “suit up” for blue and our new dragon slayer Vice President Harris!

Hate takes a lot of energy. Grump and Vance will continue to espouse it. We can take it with a knowing smile!

The Republican Party, The MSM and the Magats will NEVER get the stink of the 34 COUNT FELONY FACTORY or the SHILLBILLY off of them. Thank you Steven and the Democratic Party and President Joe Biden for supporting Kamala Harris.

Let me add that Vance never lived in Appalachia. His grandparents lived in Jackson (Breathitt County) and his mother was born there before they moved to Middletown, OH. That would be like me writing a memoir about Grand Rapids, because I have roots there; my paternal grandparents and family history go back almost 150 yrs and I’ve visited GR. At least I grew up in Michigan.

His book is a fraud. The media instead of calling him out elevated him to ‘star quality’ because it confirmed a certain set of biases. He continues to be identified an “Appalachian writer” as his book gets ready for a new printing.

The bias, resentment and discrimination in pockets of OH is real and ugly. For instance in the Cincinnati region where he lived. Cinci passed a human rights ordinance (1992) that added Appalachians as a protected class.

I lived in KY and was in the N Ky for work in the mid-1990s when I and crossed the river to meet a friend (who happened to live in Middletown). We went to a Cinci restaurant on the river. The waiter chatted, asked where we were from & then brought our menus.

She received the standard dinner menu. I was given a children’s menu with pictures — so I would not need to read. I suspect Vance borrowed from what he heard around him. He knew what he wrote would appeal to those voices. It gave him a way to portray himself as “rising above the others.”

I can attest to that.

I take some pleasure in the fact that our Dem governor carried Breathitt Co. both times he ran.

JD Vance reminds me a bit of Matt Bevin who was our previous governor. A one term wonder because he was a mini-trump. In general the state doesn’t mind sending someone obnoxious to DC, but they didn’t like dealing with it at home.

I once had a great manager (a man) whom I remember had a great laugh. It’s something I remember even now, so many years later. My husband also has a great laugh. But, until now, I’ve not seen any women who have demonstrated such a joyful laugh. Kamala has given us another example of how not to let men define us. MALA (Make America Laugh Again).

A new day!

The sun'll come out tomorrow

Bet your bottom dollar, that tomorrow there'll be sun

Just thinking about tomorrow

Clears away the cobwebs, and the sorrow 'til there's none

When I'm stuck with a day that's gray and lonely

I just stick out my chin, and grin, and say, oh

The sun'll come out tomorrow

Oh, you gotta hang on 'til tomorrow, come what may

Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love you, tomorrow

You're always a day away

Oh!!!

Just found this!!//—!!

JUST IMAGINE....

What they would say about Kamala Harris if she had 5 children with 3 different men?

Or, as state Attorney General, whipped up a crowd and did nothing to stop an attack on the California state capitol in Sacramento?

Or, was a Black woman with 36 felony convictions?

Or, got on TV to sell gold sneakers, magic Kamala bras, or signed copies of the speeches of Frederick Douglass?….

Let a smile be your umbrella on a rainy, rainy day. Smile at a stranger, they automatically smile back. Doctors will tell you that laughter makes healing faster. Vance with his cat ladies makes me think it's been raining cats & dogs. Lots of growling dogs in the GOP, & then, they have their own cat lady- Sen. Graham.

Vance s latest is that parent's votes should count more than childless couples. That 3 time name changer is as nutty as trump.

This nation has needed cheered up for a long time. Thank you, Kamala. Cheers !

Joy. I want this. That has been missing from my life, as well as from politics. I know she is smart and up to doing the job. Her laughter will not deter; I think it only strengthens what she says. I've not seen her laughing at inappropriate times or smiling while facing the gravity of situations. Let us move forward.
