Wishing the same for you, Steven, that you have the opportunity for rest and renewal. Even in the worst of times, I remind myself that in so many ways, my cup runneth over. As the Native American saying goes, “Turn your face to the light and you will not see the shadows.” I’ll try hard to ban the shadow of Trump, which hangs over everything now, from our festivities. Thank you for your thoughts, your opinions, and your expertise during this strange and trying year.

Thank you Steven: Love the script. Even in he darkest times there seems to be a flickering light within screaming for democracy and peace. I am so thankful for my southern neighbors who stand firm in the shadows of despair and push for freedom and democracy. God Speed.

Plenty of things to be thankful for but I'm in the final throes of moving house (this is one of the things I'm thankful for: my first house of my own!) so taking it easy this weekend is not in the cards or the stars. First week of December, however, I take a break.

Steven, thank you for the lovely reminder to remember to look back at the meaningful occurrences and that although we are experiencing dreadful challenges we have each other.

We have each other inspiring each other to find hope and to work together to devoutly change our current circumstances.

It’s been rewarding finding new honest caring people striving for the same goals.

Thanks especially for journalists such as yourself not giving up.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and those you love

Sincerely

Wishing you a happy and blessed Thanksgiving, Steven. I am among the lucky folks who have no wrong headed uncle to ruin the joy of the day. In my family, we count our blessings, and share belief in democracy.

Neurologically, we are programmed to have a negativity bias. We tend to focus on the bad, because that kept us alive as a species: better to be overly afraid of the sabertooth tiger than to be eaten. That worked well in the days of hunters and gatherers, but not so well now where we tend to hang onto anxiety and focus on the bad rather than the good. Thanksgiving is an opportunity to put our minds back in balance. Focus on what is going well, your family or friends, and that slowly, but surely the populace is rising up against the tyrant. Thank you for this post which really reminds us to be thankful. Being thankful can help improve our mood and in the end things allow us to see things more clearly so we can act more skillfully. It can’t be faked so only focus on the good, which is there amidst the bad as long as you look for it.
