I so look forward to the end of this regime. However, I am amazed at the number of people who still sign on with this disloyal, hateful man when they have to know that he's betrayed everyone, every time, over anything and everything. Every. Single. Time.
Hope springs eternal. So does stupidity, evidently.
I appreciated you focusing your readers’ attention on signs of the “dawn of reason” during this dark season in our country’s democracy, Steven.
Many days, it seems like we are living at the bottom of a dumpster, and Felon47 is heaping so much cruel corrupt garbage on believers in America’s Constitutional foundation, that we can hardly breathe! Yesterday, it was the announcement of an investigation of E. Jean Carroll, whose rape case against the occupant in the White House has been successfully litigated in a court of law; giving a government 600 million dollar plus loan to a company Don Junior is associated with; and the announcement that even though it is currently illegal, he wants his Georgia mug shot on a new $250 unit of currency!
There is a REAL NEED for us to take time to recognize positive developments! Thank you for your post today.
Considering almost 2 years of dismantling of federal govt, theft, torture, contempt for the law, and ongoing egregious behavior, do you think statements of outrage by some lower court judges, at this stage, heralds significant change in leadership? Especially in the face of AI which can manipulate truth and replace so many jobs? Yes democrats and sane republicans still exist. But who has balance of power, unlimited greed, and no respect for lives and liberties of their opposition etc.
Thanks for the signs of hope, but I do have concerns about midterms. All signs point blue, but his pointed remark makes me question what dastardly idea he may have to disrupt?
I'm all for optimism, but I've been around long enough to know how easily politicians and much of the U.S. electorate are willing to let bygones be bygones, to move on without asking the challenging but essential questions of how we got here. Trump didn't come out of nowhere. Neither did the anti-democratic Republican Party that's *still* enabling him, or the corporate bigwigs who signed up to fund the boondoggle ballroom, or the third of the electorate that apparently still approves of him. Are "we the people" -- or at least some of our leaders -- up to it?
I've been thinking a lot about Germany after Hitler and South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission after the end of apartheid. In the U.S., the January 6 committee did crucial work in exposing that particular event. Now we need to look deeper, a lot deeper. Problems that aren't dealt with keep coming back, like Confederate battle flags being carried into the U.S. Capitol.
“We have another 157 days until the Nov. 3 midterms.
It will take the Republicans’ overwhelming defeat before we can genuinely envision this hateful regime ending up in the dustbin of history. Are optimism then will be truly earned and deeply satisfying.”
Think the hardest part of this political moment, MAGA, is realizing how many people around me and us all aren't confused or uninformed. They're just pure cruel and evil. Not ignorant. Not misled. Not misinformed. Just openly, comfortably taking pleasure in the suffering of other human beings, even their neighbors. Not giving one iota to the suffering that they are inflicting upon this planet or any other country all around the globe. What Trump has taught Americans is that cruelty is strength, that resentment is identity, and that hating other people somehow makes you superior. He has created a permission structure for people to be their worst selves and even enjoy it.
Take this brutality of this genre of UFC fighting. It is very entertaining to DonOLD Trump and his voters. Brutality and cruelty are used publicly by autocrats to establish a threat to those who do not support them. It's an opportunity to normalize the cruelty and brutality we witness daily by ICE and Border Patrol agents on our streets and in facilities used to detain undocumented residents in this country. It tends to help in the dehumanizing process of residents with darker skins, LBGTQ+ persons, and women. It makes no difference to the 80% of Americans that this UFC cage of a large scale of metal isn’t being erected on the lawn of the “People’s House” this “House” is now owned by the 20% MAGA cult. Along with that golden-laid out Ballroom and all other additional grotesque “add-ons” throughout Washington DC. Let alone all the additional items that are already underway that have his “mug-shot” of this Felon on all Federal level documents, including this absurd $250 dollar bill.
Thinking it’s really not a far fetched idea that this isn’t cooking in Stephen Miller’s demented brain that “Detainees” from all those concentration camps aren’t fighting for their freedom in this Coliseum of 2026.. Keep hearing in my mind that exclamation from the Hunger Games this 250th celebration of our nation, “Let the Games Begin!”
It’s never about this “TDS” that all these MAGAites go on about. It’s just another deflection and the “D” in their call out to others that don’t agree is not for “Derangement” against him it’s because those of us are not as “Devoted” to him as they are.. All “fake-idols” fall..
It has never been a leap of thought that this Tangerine-Twatwaffle morceau de merde, is under the belief he has the “divine right of kings”. That he shall and will not be held accountable to any earthly authority because he sees that he has the right to rule in which it is derived from divine authority. This was quite apparent for so many decades ago, even before he entered into politics. How many times did he not pay workers who paved the foundations of buildings to his mighty kingdom? How many people in those apartment buildings that he and his father Fred owned cast out thinking they were “undesirables”? How many times has he said he can “grab” or “take” anything with no consequences? In fact he even said back in 2016, “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK?" The law is but a nuisance to him and his family, that the laws placed in our country are just merely words written on paper that are not worthy to touch him. He has and will always be an abomination of a creature and yet there are those that will always align with something so putrid because they want the same things. Ah yes the “loyalists” that have sold their souls for the piece of the cake. Thinking that nothing will ever come to them being touched by any earthly authority, such as those laws. The arrogance is astounding to say the least.
When people have finally said that they have had “Enough” that all will come tumbling down from the French Revolution, “Liberté, égalité, fraternité" to the people in Hungary in 2026, “Ruszkik haza! Vége van!” to remove those in power who believe they are “untouchable” wondering when in this nation it will be heard… Hoping that the time is right now..
So this is why there should be optimism within our nation.. This nation has survived and breathed new life throughout our history and refuse to believe that it’s over and agree that all these cracks are showing in the light. It’s not because some may have found their backbones in Congress, it’s because so many Americans have shown their own strength for quite sometime. Optimism starts with a spark and then becomes ablaze..
More and more, I find myself looking under every rock for some kind of justice, accountability and other signs of life from the American electorate. The question for me remains: What news about these aforementioned efforts actually breaks through? When American media does not report on real and true resistance for the most part, how are we going to nourish our souls and replenish our energy for the challenges ahead? I read that Jeanine Pirro and the Justice Department are combing X for information on people who are against the abuses of ICE in order to track them down and impose consequences for what used to be dissent on anyone who disagrees with the cruelty of our current policies.
I have said that I think our majority can save us from this madness, but only if we have SOME modicum of better news coming our way. Things look almost too bleak right now, but I think it’s because we’re not getting the full picture. Alarmist predictions and news will not urge us toward action. It discourages us…and we need to be bolstered by what is possible for this fight…not what is flattening us? Discouragement begets discouragement. We’ve got to push this cart uphill and we need the media to help, not sit in the cart while we push!
From your mouth to God’s ears! I wake up each morning to see what offense or insult this so-called president or his sycophants have committed. The end of this regime cannot come soon enough.
If the staggering corruption does not have limits, then we're really sunk, aren't we. For the time being this notion will have to be enough to sooth my ailing brain, currently preoccupied with all things Trump. Worst case scenario(I hope) is we will rebuild from all the harm done.
Challenges in life are necessary. This is all the optimism I can muster for one day.
I. Paxton has the "full support" of Ted Cruz - elected 3 times by Texans. Talerico, unmarried, cannot win when O'Rourke could not win.
2. Aggrieved Republicans. Only when defeated and embarrassed by Trump. They still back Trump, Project 2025 and Tax Breaks for the Wealthy. They have been and always will be against Voting Rights, Women's Rights and Immigrants Rights.
3. Reportedly "dozens" of Republicans criticize Trump - but not publicly and certainly not face-to-face with Trump. They may "be concerned", but they will vote with Trump.
4. If America has to wait until Blanche is fired to get him disbarred, which I assume is in New York, we may not have a Justice Department at all. It is the Trump Revenge Department led by Blanche that will continue to erode, dismantle and end all justice in the United States of America.
He doesn't care about #2 #3 or #4... as for #1 he's going full speed to gum it up... we need insiders to start now ..dump the epstein files out Walter Reed too & super glue the schemes he & his cabinet think he's getting away with....start dumping info on all his cabinet so we get them spinning .... there is so much that can be done to pull the rugs out from under them...go deep do not stop.... cadaver dogs at Bedminster...Zorro Ranch .....
CAVETE: Trump will try every dirty trick in his arsenal to call the midterms off altogether or to mess with them to the extent that he will make the outcome a farce. The simple fact is that this monster is not going to relinquish power through fair elections and thereby run the risk of being booted out of office and landing in jail.
We need to stay prepared and on guard. We will also need to stay calm.
As a couple of your examples indicate, Trump has ZERO interest (nor competence, but I digress) in governance. I'm convinced he only wanted/wants to be president for the monetary benefits he can acquire via self dealing amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars for him and his entire greedy family. And if that requires ruining the country and world along the way, he could not care less. We cannot be rid of him and his entire regime soon enough. STAY IN THE FIGHT, EVERYONE!
I so look forward to the end of this regime. However, I am amazed at the number of people who still sign on with this disloyal, hateful man when they have to know that he's betrayed everyone, every time, over anything and everything. Every. Single. Time.

Sigh.

I want to express my gratitude to Mr. Beschloss for his writing—but you said it much better. Thanks to both of you.
Thanks for the signs of hope, but I do have concerns about midterms. All signs point blue, but his pointed remark makes me question what dastardly idea he may have to disrupt?
Hopefully looking to blue skies!
Hes controlling eligible voter rolls and sending ballots to approved voters with of course blessing of Sup Ct

Thanks for flagging. Fixed.

Accountability is key if we’re going to eventually get over this. Not just glossing over and moving on this time.

It does seem insurmountable sometimes, doesn’t it?
As you say:

157 days
5 really good reasons ———for Hope

A Florida Bar investigation and a cancer diagnosis in the same week? Ms. Bondi might want to re-think the vibes she sends forth into the universe.
there are visible cracks in the bulwark, indeed encouraging signs that its days are numbered"
