I will enjoy a Democrat win, but no celebrating until Trump is gone- however he goes.

"if the Democrats win both chambers, how are you planning to celebrate?"

Is the deprogramming that MAGA needs the same as the deprogramming the children need who have no friends except for AI? Will their deprogramming include deprogramming America's brainwashing by corporations that stymied the checks and balances of democracy, suing the government? Or at least suing Fox News?

Will the 1 million government customer service employees finally be trained to stop using their favorite answer ("not my job") and be trainedon the first amendment (they can't retaliate against a protester who cusses them out when they are told "not my job")?

Will the Democrats announce that their next press secretary is a Stephen Colbert?

At their core, polls are snapshot guestimates subject to a predicted but not necessarily accurate MOE and drawn from a pool that may not be representative of the votes cast and counted (assuming no interference in either process). Questioned pools vary – all people registered to vote; all people likely to vote; party affiliation, if any, demographic; geography; and the most unreliable, the truthful answers of those who respond. They also can have an unwanted effect and encourage non-participation each way – by those who are confident others will carry water for them and by those who abandoned ship. As for celebration, I think that would be premature. Let’s see what happens during the Nov. 3 – Jan. 3 interregnum (Iran, other “not” good trouble) and if winners are seated.

I think the House will end up ~ 222/D to 213/R, which would be sufficient. It could be tighter, but I think 222/213 may be conservative. Either way, Jeffries has got to go.

Stevens (MI) is not helping Al-Sayed and the full frontal assault on AK may be an issue. I think the Dems (45 minus Fetterman (PA)/44, plus King (ME) and plus Sanders (VT) control 46 seats. They need 51 to avoid the Hillbilly, which means gaining 5 and losing none - or if any are lost, gaining a number at least equal in number to the seats lost.

In the Senate (Schumer, like Jeffries, has to go) I think Dems will take these 7: GA, IA, ME, NC, NH, OH, TX and should hold, as they must, MI (despite the trouble Stevens + others are causing) and MN (Flanagan is weak; Tafoya has name recognition) and Peltola should win AK (an R flip) despite the Sullivan nonsense. Hamilton appears positioned to flip KS (Marshall increasingly is despised) and Andrews (SC) – Graham is a zero. Osborn (NE) is a longshot and Nixon (FL) and Colom (MS) are future talent. I think Dems will control 53-54 seats (with Sanders/King, Fetterman out), a gain of 7 or 8; at a minimum 52, if they lose one of the expected win 7 seats with no other changes. 52 seats means they can lose only one seat (incapacity) and keep control. 53/54 is better.

Three thoughts:

1. All really, really looks promising, but we have been burned before. Hopeful more than optimistic. I am impressed with the depth and quality of so many Democratic candidates and possible presidential contenders.

2. I am more focused on the 10 weeks between NOV 3 and JAN 3. The most dangerous time in our history on so many fronts.

3. Nov 4 is the first day of Campaign 2028. Only 703 days to go.....

Cautiously, for there is an Elon factor; but not as optimistic as on Christmas morning when I was six.

Yes I think it will go the way we wish, but then what? Do you think the new political reality will reshape the way Trump acts? I really don’t. I think he will go more hard core authoritarian. I’m not optimistic either way.

Ask me November 4.

I am optimistic but the pain of 2016 and 2024 is still too fresh to be overly so. My neighbors and I have some saved up sparklers from July 4th and we will have a celebratory parade if this election goes the way it should!

While optimistic, stranger things have happened, as you have already mentioned. I just hope that the polls don't have the negative effect of keeping people from voting by ccausing them to think that a Democratic victory in both houses of Congress is a done deal, so their vote is not needed. That will only lead to a disaster from which this country may never recover!

I am still TERRIFIED. I live in Texas. Like I said, still terrified. The people here are delusional and pathetic and brainwashed and ignorant and deceitful and arrogant and self righteous sheep. Especially my supposed holy and righteous and godly Christian brethren. The disinformation, misinformation and flat out lies are believed by mega millions of sheep. All of them, from the big lie of 2020 to the gender assignment surgeries in classroom and all the rest of the lunacy.…

I still expect Paxton to win. I mean he is the righteous and “Christian” candidate, am I right? I AM SICK of this insanity. Sick of it. This country is so messed up and crazy and shallow and stupid and like I said, sheep. And Texas leads the way.

Praying for sanity and decency, expecting more gaslighting and more Trump criminality and insanity. The people want what the people want.

As someone living in Florida, I feel your pain, Rick. Ain't easy living among the redness. The Texas Senate race scares me.

I am also in Texas and scared to death. This is the ultimate test for our state. We have the absolute worst republican candidate ever against the very best democrat. If we can’t win this one, we never will get out from under the thumb of the billionaires who own our state and its government. I’m not optimistic but am hopeful. I’ve given every dime I could scrape together and have already voted. That’s all I can do.

Brown Cecelia Linda's avatar

Rick. HOPE above all the craziness.

We have come to believe that money solves everything but all it does is corrupt and bring on the crazies. Trump and Elon have made it very clear how they swing. However, I think people are kind of waking up to the facts of what’s going on in our country and who’s getting richer and who’s getting poor and suffering more. The taxpayers the working people. The Republicans have complained about the poor for so long and yet they’ve never lived the reality of what they’re going through. How do you have a job and pay for daycare or mortgage payments or the electric bill or the groceries when you’re getting minimum wage and trying to make a living. Pete Buttigieg, Britany, Sanders, and several others have made it perfectly clear of what’s happening and more people need to listen to the facts not FOX or NEWSMAX🤬

Steven, I live in one of the reddest states in the country, South Carolina.

I have attended so many candidate rallies and I can tell you that attendance and enthusiasm is so great you can feel it.

When early voting and had to stand in a 20 minute line, I knew something big was happening. I think it will be a blue Tsunami. I have asked many people here in SC if they were voting and most have said no. These people are his base.

CarolAinDC's avatar

Cautiously optimistic. Even if there is a blue tsunami, if it is rooted in concern limited to gas and food prices rather than concern about the lives of our people, we will only have gained a brief reprieve from Rep trifecta, not a victory that could be footing for building a country that could someday live up to the ideals espoused in the Constitution.

All anger is fear, fear of something we love dying.

I am more politically angry than I have ever been in my all 87 years of this beautiful Earth. Fearful for my family, neighbors, country, and life on this planet.

These grotesque, greedy, power-hungry monsters are blowing up the Garden of Eden to plant bind weed... they are not going to slither away quietly just because of an election... they will become more dangerous when they loose.

Macman's avatar

I am optimistic about the outcome, but, after that, not much.

The results will be challenged and the rancor will continue.

After that noise has died down, sometime in 2027, the winners of the elections are going to need to pull together into one cohesive unit to actually prove that they were worthy of our vote and are worthy of our trust. It took a very short time for the current administration and its minions to tear everything down.

It will take much longer to rebuild everything, including trust from the electorate.

My biggest concern is that those governing will go on a vengeance rampage much like the one we have been experiencing since the last election.

Earl Heflinger's avatar

I’m optimistic about a blue wave. I’ll celebrate by starting to breathe again.

Claire's avatar

I am hopeful but nauseously cautious. Been burned before. Even if we win both chambers (God willing) we still have to get through the very dangerous two months before they take office. Even then, the Big Orange Turd will still have immense power.
