A normal American President would own a dog. A normal American President would have friends from his or her young years. A normal American President would read books. And a normal American President would laugh and maybe tell jokes occasionally.

In a sane world he would be impeached and removed from office and face charges for raping a 13-year old girl, be convicted and be sent to prison for the rest of his life. As a pedophile he would face harsh justice from the other inmates. All trace of his administration would be torn down and the White House restored to its original, modest splendor. The Qatari jet would be dropped far at sea, and our precious country would rebuild our alliances, science and research restored, and a better, service based government would be restored. Oligarchies would be taxed and regulated, the minimum wage would be raised to meet the needs of The People, and AI would be reined in and regulated. And the nation would begin to sleep well, eat well, and stop hating and unite after the storm and dread had passed.

It is hard to reconcile your observations with any notion that we live in a decent society. I do so by understanding that we have ignored the growing wealth gap between the ultra rich and the rest of us. We have been lied to for the last fifty years. The corporate democrats have been happy with the status quo while incomes have eroded. The republican syndicate divided us by creating boogeymen to distract us from an increasingly unjust society. It’s no wonder that people believed trump’s lies.

The election results have buoyed my spirits. I believe we will get through this mess and build a better future from the wreckage created by trump and his fellow traitors.

Thanks for providing me this quotable summary of the way I'm feeling (truthfully without all of the optimism). I try to remain hopeful.

What does the insanity portend? Can any good outcome follow? We have to believe that it does; that lessons can be learned. Japan, Germany and other cultures have risen from their collapse. Let’s keep that in our hearts and minds.

As usual Steven you are spot on with your article. I miss having a president who works for America, one we can be proud of. Of the presidents in my lifetime, I’ve seen good and bad but never once questioned their loyalty to our country. This one only loves himself. Counting the days until this whole regime is gone, and I pray we have our own Nuremberg trials. Get the popcorn ready!

Steven I’m curious, do you have things you do to keep you from losing it? For me it’s music, but there is one song I listen to everyday that has become my mantra. Actually, it’s two versions of the same song, and I listen to both. It’s A Change Is Gonna Come, first by Sam Cooke and second by J.J. Jackson.

When I feel down from all the insanity I listen to Sam Cooke first. His voice is so smooth and powerful it feels like a warm, comforting hug that makes me believe it will get better. Then J. J. Jackson’s version is just as powerful, but he has a grit and an edge to it that makes me want to keep fighting. I listen to his version before every protest. I hope everyone has something to like this to keep the sane.

As usual Steven, thank you for expressing so well through your words what we’re all feeling.

Thanks Karen.. I have a favorites list of songs that I play in my car. Rule one for me is never listen to the news in the car only music..The list is in the 100's . I grew up in a big family and everyone listened to different music. We listened to each others begining with my parents. Ink Spots, Pearl Baily, Nina Simone, Ertha Kitt, Ella, right up to my time Bob Dylan the Beatles etc. Music is food for my soul.

Mary same here. I haven’t listened to news since last November. I’m the same with music. My dad listened to Big Band music, then I had 2 older brothers who got me started on a mix of genres. Classic rock, Soul, Blues and Jazz. My playlist is very eclectic!

I find point 3 the saddest of all. That 89 million chose not to vote at all. I sure would love to know if there’s been any poll done to determine how many of those same people were motivated to vote in the last election!

Some years ago, I took a first job in my new profession, working for someone I thought I knew fairly well. This man exhibited violent behavior to his employees and clients, a surprise to most who knew him. He was charged several times for assault -- domestic abuse, road rage, other confrontations that required police involvement. One workday, the office manager called and told us all to leave the building immediately. The implication was that the business owner was going to show up with a weapon. I quit then, as did most of my coworkers.

This experience made me think that mental illness is a lot more widespread than I had thought (gun violence in the US, anyone?). Perhaps this is why Republicans will not provide universal health care that would help addresss this issue. If insanity was treated, who would vote for them? Republicans have already removed civics and accurate history accounts from the education system. Between ignorance and insanity, they can win elections, evidently.

What could possibly go wrong?

With the release of the newest tranche of Epstein emails and texts, it becomes clearer by the day that the felon has become a lame duck, and even GOP Congress members are beginning to distance themselves from him.

There will be a reckoning in the not too distant future, and I believe we can remove him from our desecrated White House.

I agree that Vance, as an arrogant bigoted pseudo-Christian White Nationalist, would be an abhorrent President. On the up-side though, Vance is too inept and would never wield power and influence like Felon47!

A "normal" president would focus on building up the nation's health using verified scientific data and promoting scientific research. A "normal" president would have done everything and anything within his power to slow or stop the scourge of Covid instead of pretending that it didn't exist and killing almost 1,000,000 Americans.

A brilliant summary of Trump's multiple pathologies, poltical and psychological. How did he get to be President, twice, no less? In my view, from the beginning of his "Golden Escalator" announcement of his Presidential campaign, it has been his brilliant (and yes, he does do this brilliantly) use of the centerpieces of both his personal thinking and his politics: Racism, Sexism, and Xenophobia. And since he has nothing else in his quiver, he will try to squirm out of "The Epstein Files" mess-for-him using RSX once again (e.g., Race remains the Trump Card: https://www.opednews.com/articles/Race-remains-the-Trump-Car-by-Steven-Jonas-Krugman_Obama_Race_Republican-180906-679.html).

Our 1787 Constitution only allows 2 solutions, both of which have been shown to not work: Impeachment (twice failed before and a bill for a third try awaits consideration) and Constitutional Amendment (which requires politicians who are in the same class as those who failed to convict and remove). But a third path exists because of our Inalienable Rights which have not yet been suspended by Marshall Law and rights of free speach and assembly in the shredded 19878 Constitution. That is my plan: a private assembly of experts and ordinary open minded unbiased citizens by invitation only to modernize (not replace or destroy) the Constitution for the 21st Century, submit it the a State By State national plebiscite for ratification. The key is for the more perfect Constitution to create a more perfect democracy by giving the governed, you and me, the direct powers of recall, veto, and amendment. So where is your support? It will take millions, that's you me and x,000,000 more. We need enough people to fill the streets like you did nor NO KINGS.
