For months, I have been telling my friends and family to pay attention to Jon Ossoff because he is such a clear thinker and articulate speaker. I will admit that I did see similarities between him and Barack Obama in that regard. I guess I just found it refreshing that someone could speak with such moral clarity and quiet force of will. I found his speaking style compelling and clear. I was surprised that nobody seemed to know who he was. It appears that this may be, after a fashion, his time to shine. We need a voice of reason, compassion, and truth. That voice may be his…at least, at this moment. And at this moment, I’ll take what I can get. His voice speaking on behalf of our democracy isn’t just better than nobody. It’s better than just about everybody. He is one of those rare people who have democracy in their soul, and honesty and truth in their bones. Who knows what is next on the menu for him? He is the ‘full meal deal’…and I, for one, will have another helping, please.
It is very encouraging to see and hear from someone with a moral compass. Someone who is willing to stand up and fight for us. Someone who takes on the bullies and wins. Thanks Steven for highlighting him.
What a great younger class of leaders we have in this country - Jon Osoff, Talarico, AOC, Buttegieg among the best. We must do all we can to support their (re)elections!
Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff vs. ‘War’ Secretary Pete Hegseth. I'm in the audience at the boxing match. Hegseth is dancing around the ring as if in Rocky, Raging Bull, or Million Dollar Baby. Ossoff is on the cornerman's stool trying to hide his laughter. The audience boos everytime Hegseth struts further and further from Ossoff. But Ossoff never leaves his seat. Hegseth continues untill he drops to his feet. Sweat erases pencilled on eyebrows and lashes. The ref strolls over to the flat and weeping Hegseth. Out of pity, he pulls a handkerchief from his pocket and offers it to the US Defense Secretary. But Hegseth is unresponsive. The spectators are rising from their seats to get a better view. Once the ref raises Ossoff's arm to announce victory, Ossoff rises, blows kisses to the crowd, and leaves the arena to a thundering crowd. Hegseth remains, snoring.
Thank you for this essay on Jon Ossoff. I listened to a little of his questions live and thought we need more Jon Ossoff and less GOP. He persisted but kept it tonal. Very professional and did not let the combative confrontational responses inflame his questions. Can't say the same from those attempting their non answers. Very professional and has a great future.
Too bad Congress is effectively shut down for the next month or two. Democrats like Ossoff need to get in front of news cameras as often as possible from now to November. Challenging Trumpmaga BS is essential.
Ossoff is expressing 'moral fervor,' in both performative and meaningful ways. And without sounding like a tent-revivalist. Couple more things: First, if he's an honest broker with both the oratorical chops and the guts to do the important job of informing and inspiring us as we move forward--well, yay. Second: real moral fervor encompasses clear sight and the centrality of care. I don't know if Senator Ossoff is a practicing Jew, but one thing I've always admired about Judaism is its upholding of Tikkun as the reason for being. Tikkun, for those unfamiliar with the term, describes leaving the world a better place than it was when you were born as a primary obligation. If Ossoff has embraced this '11th and most important commandment,' he's got my vote.
I have watched Ossoff for a few years and agree with your assesment of his ability to clearly reason, to put our democracy first, and to speak in a captivating and entrancing manner. His request for funds often plays on my cell phone, and each time I stop and watch him and listen. While I do not think he is the ideal candidate for the presidency at this point in time, I sure want to see him re-elected. He is a Dem in a red state - a tough race. I so appreciate his direct, honesty and integrity.
A brief but telling profile on Ossoff, most important is gaining significant ground in the mid terms, but we are all wondering who wil be the Dems voice going forward.
All I gotta say is he's MY Senator (well along with his colleague Rev Raphael) and Jon's already got some of my $$. Call me old-fashioned, but I consider the general election campaign to begin on Labor Day, and that's when, much to the consternation of my neighbors, his sign is going up in my front yard
I was going to comment that the young Senator is a real diamond in the rough, but that's inaccurate. He's fully polished and about to soar. I'm not predisposed to be optimistic anymore, but...
After watching Ossoff speak several times I am more and more impressed. A serious man who speaks intelligently and doesn’t lose his cool. The exact opposite of the moron in Chief and his cabinet of flunkies. I am hoping he does run in 2028.

Me, too, Ellen!

Trump and his acolytes are blatant liars. Anyone can cross them. Trump said 2 deaths not counted because himostilities had submbsuded that week.

Ossoff cuts right to the chase - it's a beautiful thing to behold
Keep it up!

Senate hearings are all about evading questions. With witnesses insulting senators.
