How can we possibly expect any better from our major news outlets, Steven, when they are owned by individuals or corporations with larger financial interests? WaPo is a case in point.
It is essential, if our press is to fulfill its proper function, that we establish and promote outlets that are fully independent of outside pressures. The structure of The Guardian (which is owned and administered by an independent trust) is an appropriate template.
We do have independent non-profit sources. They are smaller, often local / regional & more limited in scope. ProPublica partners with some of them on specific investigative projects. It is a small patchwork of good journalism.
Another case in point: by design or cowardice, the once mighty NY Times, of Watergate and the Pentagon Papers fame, has become a collaborationist tool of Trump. Their “sane-washing” started early and often and practically defines the term. I canceled my subscription months ago (along with the WaPo and others). I urge everyone to boycott all mainstream media until they remember what their role is in a democracy: watchdog not lapdog.
Now everyone is focused on his newest shiny (demolished) object and no one is focusing on the old one = The Epstein Records. DJT must be "s\admit\red" for his uncanny ability to manipulate the media, his political opposition, his allies and the public.
WAKE UP, HAUL HIM INTO COURT AND GET A STAY ON HIS WHITE HOUSE WRECKING, GET THE VOTES YOU NEED FOR RELEASING THE EPSTEIN FILES, AND IMPEACH AND CONVICT HIM FOR:
1. TREASON "ARTICLE III, SECTION 3 of the current Constitution (see pages 197-198 in the book) clearly states "Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying WAR against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort." (Especially note that there is a comma separating the WAR phrase from the Adhering and giving them phrases.) Where I was taught American English the comma separates the two acts and therefore the SCOTUS decision that treason can only occur during an active declaration of war is WRONG. Do you agree or disagree?
2) ARTICLE II, Section 4 states (see page 196 of the book) "The President, Vice-Prsident and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."
According to definitions on the Internet:
Treason = consists of two acts: Levying war or adhering and aiding an enemy.
(This could be interpreted as both are necessary or either alone is sufficient. Again note that in the Constitution the two acts are separated by a comma! )
High Crimes = Corruption, Bribery, abuse of public trust and Maladministration.
(Do any of these not apply to the current administration?
Common serious crimes = Capitsal crimes (does this include killing people in boats for suspected drug smuggling with out providing an proof?)
Theft = property offenses. Using Congressional approved funding for military maintenance of missile silos abnd equipment to customize an aircraft dumped on the Trump by Qatar without prior approval of Congress?
Misdemeanor = According to an article on the internet published by Brown Kiely LLP:
Normal Misdemeanor = "These offenses generally involve acts that are unlawful but not serious enough to be considered felonies. Common example include simple assault, minor theft, or vandalism." (like destroying the West Wing of the White House without proper clearance?)
Petty Misdemeanors = "least serious category" "typically do not carry jail time."
SO WHERE ARE THE NEW OBVIOUSLY APPROPRIATE IMPEACHMENTS AND CONVICTION?
HAVE ALL THE RINOS IN CONGRESS LOST THEIR HONOR, SELF-RESPECT, AND SPINES?
Come November 2026 it will be time for the governed in the United States to clean houses of the elections still have any semblance of fair and honest. I hope it is not already too late.
• In the quest to put pressure on the Senate, the House remains on vacation.
• The House discharge petition re: Epstein Files is on hold because the House is not in session to conduct votes.
• Its pro forma sessions every 3 days are a workaround to avoid a requirement in the Constitution that the House & Senate agree on either chamber being out of session for more than 3 days —
• While avoiding swearing in the new AZ congresswoman elect who will be signature 218 triggering the requirement for action on the discharge petition.
• If the Speaker chooses to do this through the holidays, with the New Year comes a new Congress and the discharge petition expires again (as does any pending legislation).
Those who do not want to rely on the the machinations in the House, can read about or purchase the memoir of Virginia Roberts Giuffre which she completed before she died (with the assistance of journalist, Anna Wallace).
Thanks Steven: Yes it is so sad. The stately iconic symbol of democracy and freedom been destroyed and the new resident could care less. Anyone who contributed to this boondoggle should not be listened to. Mr. Trump has been urinating all over the White House walls with his gaudy gold glitter and will soon be dwarfing a world known symbol. He will have the whole property looking like a brothel. What a shame.
Instead of letting my WaPo expire, I cancelled it in June of last year. NYT did a long article on why editors and others were leaving WaPo. Granted they are rivals, but one item in particular grabbed my attention. Sally Buzbee reportedly left because Bezos wanted to push out more ‘news’ faster & floated the idea of rewriting articles from other publications. She preferred original journalism.
Easy to believe given other things going on at WaPo. The hiring of Will Lewis 🤮 being one of the worst if you care about journalism. Lewis told an NPR reporter he could have an interview if he didn’t ask about the British phone hacking scandal from his previous employment. (Reporter declined to interview him.) Lewis has decided he would never talk about these issues. I presume that includes his advise to Boris Johnson to “clean up” what was on his phone.
Two guys in charge who have no journalistic integrity. Bezos is more concerned about positioning himself where his companies avoid regulation & retribution — no matter the cost. Melania’s documentary. 🙃 He sat behind DJT at the inauguration due to his donation & hired Lewis although his scandals were known. Despite it all, they remain.
Ditch the MSM, stay with Substack, Bluesky. Other than MSNBCs hosts, the rest are DOA, especially the cesspool gaggles of amateurs asking questions the already know answers to! Lamebrain Leavitt and donnie dementia are USING entire press corps as shills!
MS. Sharon, Thank you for your very insightful and diplomatic reply. DJT's basic strategy has always been delay, delay, flood the media with other issues, and wait for everyone to get tired of the chaos. The comment was meant to point to the media as falling for the bait. The RINOs in Congress are the basic problem because they are complicit enablers in DJTs Impeachable crimes and therefore will never vote to find him guilty when and if he is ever Impeached again. America is being destroyed by what little is left of the Conserc[vative movement I once thought was the bedrock of the Republican Party. Thank you again for your truthful and necessary reminder.

We are seeing the consequences of media owners whose central concern is self-enrichment.
We do have independent non-profit sources. They are smaller, often local / regional & more limited in scope. ProPublica partners with some of them on specific investigative projects. It is a small patchwork of good journalism.
ProPublica is an excellent source of information and I too, subscribe to The Guardian.

I'm so disappointed in all of them. This is a travesty.
I get a lot of news on YouTube from Heather Cox Richardson, Jim Acosta and other independent journalists.
No, my WAPO prescription.
😹
Thanks. Finally enough to make me cancel my weapon subscription.
I don't watch corporate news anymore. They aren't credible and if they interview the regime, there's no push back, hard questions, or follow up.

WHO is going to fight the building of the ballroom and how? It will dwarf the White House and be ugly as sin. Can this be stopped?
It’s a gold encrusted bordello.
