At the age of 81, having lived through the political, social, racial, and religious storms of all the years since the end of WWII, I know we are on the cusp of a third American Revolution, still deciding whether “any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure”.
Lincoln still calls to us to dedicate ourselves “to the great task remaining before us”.
Back in 1838, he also warned us, “As a nation of free men, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.”
Trump and his myrmidons have chosen suicide, as, it seems, have the hard core of his supporters.
I celebrate the fact that so many of us seem to be waking up to that fact, but in the midst of this maelstrom, we need to remember that the road to recovery will be long and hard. We will need patience, determination, and a return to the understanding that we are both the inheritors of and the participants in the most extraordinary, the most crucial, the riskiest, and the most complex ongoing experiment in human society and government ever attempted

Thanks Steven: It feels that what is happening is this little spot in history, is that the masses have been prodded and awoken from a few years of slumber and assumed democracy and personal freedoms where theirs , it was and always has been theirs , not understanding democracy and freedom must be guarded and nourished daily. I speak for myself personally. Not everyone felt like I did , but enough to allow a evil, vicious, sexual assaulter, convicted of 34 felonies with pedophile tendencies gain the White House and implement the destruction of democracy,, constitution and the rule of law in just a short period of two years. There have been elections in Serbia, Hungary, and Brazil where right wing strong men have lost recent elections. Perhaps the regime in Washington has brought awareness to the rest of the world that the rights of the people should prevail over authoritarian dictators. It’s our turn next, and I hope that people have seen what the felon and his sycophants are trying to take away from We the People. People of color, women and the LGBTQ+ community are losing freedom to live our lives unmolested by white men. Vote blue!
