As we await the arrival of Hurricane Milton here in Orlando, I realize what an angst-filled few weeks we have ahead of us. Trump and Milton are a bit similar, though I think we can rebuild from a hurricane; not so much from the Orange Menace. Holding on for the ride, and doing whatever we can - and a bit more - is how I'm planning on getting through it all. The hurricane will pass. I pray that Trump does, too.
Your reporting and timing are excellent. How do these stats hold up in the swing states? That’s where we can get more helpful information and begin to feel better about the election. Nonetheless, we must keep pressing for a win everywhere and cannot let up until November 6th.
I LOVE Tim Walz, and was delighted when Harris chose him for her VP. Now, with PA the largest uncertainty, do you think she would have done better to have selected Shapiro?
This is great news! I am hoping that, if not today, you might talk about the negative impact of the Wall Street Journal's decision to publish an opinion piece by JD Vance telling everyone how President Biden "mishandled" Hurricane Helene? I know many folks read the WSJ as gospel. What can be done to combat this deliberate lie? Thanks
This is all very encouraging. What impresses me about Kamala Harris as a candidate is how she is able to project warmth, humor and strength.
But those swing states?... What is of particular concern, of course, is how some of them, like Arizona and Georgia, will try to muddy up the waters by delaying certification in anticipation of throwing the outcome to the House to allow the election to be stolen.
I guess I'll keep holding my breath in the hope that Kamala will win overwhelmingly to make other issues moot. Women, if you're listening, we're counting on you to deliver us.
Your positive newsletter today was just what I needed to pull me out of the funk I’ve been living in lately. I do honestly believe that Harris/Walz will win, but there are dark days when I think it’s hopeless. I know there are more of us than there are of them, I just hope we turn out in numbers strong enough to erase any doubt.
“Turn the page” is a positive and up lifting thought! Our country can only survive if this is the attitude. With all the horrid problems going on in front of us, we must believe there are answers and a way to get thru these tough issues. Heads up! Now move on! WE the People can get thru this challenging time!
My 2 cts. She has to appeal to the proverbial reptilian brain. Provoking a visceral fear of Trump with pointed rhetorical questions. Eg 1. What is Trump afraid of? Why is he scared to debate again? What has he promised to America's enemies like Putin and KJ-Un? Why does he ramble at his endless campaign stops? Why doesn't he ever testify under oath? Why was he too scared to go on 60 minutes like every other candidate? What are his debts and how much is he going to steal from American Taxpayers? And why didn't he keep the promises he made 8 yeas ago? Where's his damn wall? Why didn't he get Mexico to pay a dime. The American President should not be a liar and a thief who sold their sole to America's enemies. ... Too strong?
America the choice is ours. Vote for the two things that are the foundation of who we are, decency and honesty. It's a historic landslide if we do, and a rebirth of our Democracy.
Thanks for sharing. I'm doing all I can to make sure Harris is elected, but won't feel any optimism until I see an overwhelming defeat of Donald Trump in the election. It's just way too close.
I am very grateful for the inspired writing. My group of coffee friends are busy writing postcards. Our communities need hope and joy for the future. Our children need to see a life where they have opportunities and an occupation which will afford them a comfortable home and food. We need a system of leaders who celebrate our veterans and follow the rule of law. Our local leaders used to be our heros, let's get that dignity back by making sure no one is treated differently. We will get the freedom vote!
“Harris also leads 43 to 35 percent on the question of who is fun. This might seem like a frivolous indicator.“ Harris has larger margins for honesty & caring about people. She’s connecting with voters & fun is the frosting.
Fun sends a lively message that this is a younger generation’s leadership. Whether we like it or not, many younger people get their information from entertainment. That includes social media & late night comedians. What many Americans knew about DJT originally was what they saw on a reality TV show. Then there’s the carnival / entertainment aspect of DJT and his rallies. His fans used to say his unpredictability was funny & entertaining.
These days, after long waits, the crowd is ‘treated’ to Donnie & his angry dark, ever longer harangues. This sequel is less fun and a lot more boring with nothing to look to in the future.
People are once again tired of gloom and doom; fear and anger. We can turn the page to a future that has more honesty & caring and brings back joy and fun.
A reader suggested you might talk about the negative impact of the Wall Street Journal's decision to publish an opinion piece by JD Vance telling everyone how President Biden "mishandled" Hurricane Helene. I also suggest considering James Carville's constructive critiques-- In his interview with Ari Melber. For example, Carville highlighted the need for the campaign to respond proactively to misinformation. He suggested holding daily press conferences to counter lies, instead of assuming falsehoods will not gain traction.
The Harris team should have daily press conferences and go hard at Vance and disinformation.
How can we celebrate the improving poll results for Kamala Harris … when some 40% of Americans still support that racist sexual abuser and congenital liar? A man who is both demanding *and* delusional? Our “good Germans” I guess.

Please do everything you can to stay safe. This hurricane is a monster.
Thanks all.
So is trump.
"I think we can rebuild from a hurricane; not so much from the Orange Menace." That's as profound as it gets. Praying for your safety.
Thanks.
Ignore the doomers, but keep working to make it happen!

Swing states remain a mixed bag.

We finally got the first accurate headline from the NYT about drumpf -- and now the WSJ does this? Sigh...
They should have put JD’s name in the headline so people would be warned - this is the “I created a story” guy with another story.
Chin UP and keep moving forward!
Thank you for these details
and
inspiring Hope, Steven!——
I really needed this information!

Not at all.
