This assault is a clear violation of those people’s 4th Amendment rights. I am incensed at the lack of care for all of them, especially the children. They have suffered trauma, and may suffer PTSD. I hope there are attorneys willing to do some pro bono work to assist these people in filing charges against the thugs who carried out this atrocity.
....and it is all getting more and more terrifying, very quickly.
One wonders how many more cases there are that we know nothing about.
One wonders about the sudden increase in speed at which the administration is now operating and it makes one wonder what is in the Epstein files that would make them think their plan now needs to speed up and be on overdrive, as if they fear they could soon be out of time.
There seems to be something causing a panic although maybe it is simply the plummeting poll numbers. If polling gets too low, the GOP in congress won't be as afraid of Trump anymore and a few may be willing to go against him to save their own hides.
What I can't figure out is why those who are retiring, don't just flip to Independent and caucus with the Dems and flip congressional power. It would only take a few to save us from this nightmare.
As I noted elsewhere, the Congressional Republicans are "in so far in blood,/ That to return would be as tedious/ As to go o'er." The line is from Macbeth.
This attack should be on the front page of the NY Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe and all the other major US newspapers, as well as on all the major TV channels, and PBS, CNN, etc. In 9 months of outrageous actions by this regime, this is by far and the worst of them all, and shows everyone exactly where this country is headed. Shame on all the major news outlets if they don't carry this front and center.
The outrage continues to advance. Noem shooting a puppy reveals a stain on a heart that is pure evil. And she gathers the darkness in the form of ice agents anxious to hurt and maim others.
Exactly, shooting that puppy told us everything we need to know about this administration. No empathy, no compassion, no understanding at all of the truth taught by all the great wisdom traditions. To paraphrase Thomas Merton: My brothers and sisters, we are already one, but we imagine that we are not and what we have to be is what we are—one.❤️
This doesn't make me angry, it makes me inconsolably sad. Would anyone have thought, just a year or so ago, that our country, that we love, could become so hellish and that large groups of Americans could become so thuggish? What totally amazes me is that large numbers of these people or their supporters, have the audacity to call themselves "Christians." This goes beyond politics. It is time to choose whether you are a good person or not.
I’m in total agreement. As I was screaming in my car while listening briefly to the news, I said this. Is not only Un-American, it’s un-Christian. Then I let out another string of un-Christian expletives.
I stopped at Best Buy to pick up a memory card, and the young guy helping me had to pause and bend down to do some deep breathing. He been released from the hospital yesterday with anxiety-caused chest pains. He said he just tries to be kind to customers and chat about things not related to the current state of the country but found it really difficult. I agreed. It’s permeating every facet of our lives.
Good for you, Nancy. But it should also make you angry. Angry enough to oppose. Angry enough to resist in the best ways that are possible for you. And everyone else.
These kinds of nighttime arrests are a common scene in both fiction and non-fiction accounts of totalitarianism regimes. I've been collecting these stories for decades, never imagining them--the non-fiction version--coming to Chicago.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago: “Arrest! … How much simpler it was in those days to arrest a man in the middle of the night, when he is disoriented and his judgment is befogged.” (The Gulag Archipelago, Part I, Chapter 1: “Arrest”)
Nadezhda Mandelstam, Hope Against Hope: “Every knock at the door at night filled us with terror: this was how arrests were made.” (Hope Against Hope, ch. 1)
Arthur Koestler, Darkness at Noon: “The door opened with a crash. Rubashov knew that this was the end. It was two o’clock in the morning.” (Darkness at Noon, Part One, ch. 1)
George Orwell, 1984: “There was a knocking at the door. No one ever seized by the Thought Police was ever seen again. The arrest always happened at night.” (1984, Part II, ch. 10)
And this from Hannah Arendt: “The task of the totalitarian police is not to discover crimes, but to be on hand when the government decides to arrest a certain category of the population."
Congress needs to stop this. How can this happen without a legal warrant. This can not happen to children- someone in this jurisdiction should protect children.
I cannot express the depth of my outrage and sadness at what is happening. i know so many people that are not citizens who are afraid . I know people who are citizens and they are afraid as well. The one thing I am determined to do is.. if I witness these goons doing anythng to anyone I will not walk away. I will stay and video it with my i-phone and I will call them out. If they arrest this baby boomer so be it. I don't care. Why isn't that story the lead story everywhere ? Why ? I will be in NYC on 10/18 I will go to the protest . I was at the last one too. I feel so powerless. Our government has been hyjacked . Someone I know who is here legally said to me"this is what the voters who voted for him want" I'm afraid he might be right . Because if this isn't what they wanted why aren't they screaming we didn't want this. lost in america
Heartbreaking. This administration is a mob of fascist pigs and thugs. We will be at the October 18th protest and I hope the numbers far exceed the last one!
This hits very close to home. I’m the son of two (now both deceased) Holocaust survivors. My mom survived a year in labor camps, her three siblings did not.
My dad was 18, his sister was 17, on Kristallnacht. My grandmother was afraid the Gestapo had papers to take my dad. Friends in the building offered to hide him, but they didn’t come for him.
My grandmother’s second husband was a wholesale coal merchant. He and his son were both arrested on Kristallnacht and sent to Dachau. They were released when he turned over his business to the NAZI regime. The next month, they all left for Shanghai where they survived the war there. They came to the US in 1947.
Stephen Miller is no better than Himmler, and ICE is the Trump Gestapo. Their violent rampage in Chicago would have gone over well in NAZI Germany in 1938.
Imagine the horror of these families and their young children. How dare these fascists unleash cruelty on this scale. Well, not in our name!
It is fortuitus, though, that the next "No Kings" protest is planned for Saturday 18, barely fifteen days from now, at a time when the government has been shut down. It is my fervent hope that all of this - the cruelty and outrages, the furloughs, the rising prices - will drive the turnout on the 18th into the multimillions.
Let's also urge air traffic controllers to call in sick or to go on strike within the next twelve days in order to bring civil aviation to a complete halt. That might also have the effect of leading to general strikes and work stoppages across the nation
We have no choice but to shut this country down in order rid ourselves of this fascist regime.
But what then? We still do not have a united body of leaders - politicians from all parties, scholars and intellectuals from our universities, former leaders from our military and administrative services - to pick up the pieces and provide the immediate governance that we will need.
By the way, where is Daniel Ellsberg when we need him? Is there not one person with access who has the courage to leak the Epstein files in full in order to expedite the process of ridding ourselves of Trump?
We are facing an existential crisis. We have to rise to the challenge that we face.
I can’t even, I hope the ACLU and Gov. Pritzker come down on these monsters like a ton of bricks. It’s beyond outrageous. And a distraction from releasing the Epstein files.
Has Gov. Pritzker made any announcements on this raid yet? I have to imagine that he is completely shocked and outraged. Is there anything he can do to stop any further attacks like this one? Can he have these goons arrested?
Yes, you’d better believe I’m offended! The Grim Reaper video tRump recently posted makes it clear that the regime wants some of our citizens to die, and they’re actually publicly celebrating that intent.

4th amendment likely declared null and void. Per executive order. And dept of war. And order to kill people and break things.
Add it to this...as well...

Nuremberg Trials.
If Trump truly wanted to rid our country of its criminal elements, he'd hurl his own behind into prison.
Has Gov. Pritzker made any announcements on this raid yet? I have to imagine that he is completely shocked and outraged. Is there anything he can do to stop any further attacks like this one? Can he have these goons arrested?
