Reading about this pathetic speech from Europe, Norway to be exact, one cannot shake the belief that the Republican Party is the single most dangerous threat to the free world.

Steven Beschloss's avatar

A reasonable assumption, Roy.

It seems he’s feeling a bit of rage and so doubled down on the insults & told a longer of litany of lies. Even for him it wasn’t a particularly good performance.

Among his lies - He stated that the disturbed man who killed the young woman who was a Ukrainian refugee in NC was an immigrant. Her killer was a mentally ill US citizen, DeCarlos Brown. It was one of the occasions when he went into ghoulish gory details - while her mother cried.

I would like to see the “dial meter” readouts they use to determine audience reactions to different parts of an event or speech. This was no ‘state of the union’ speech. It is the same tripe he trots out whenever he can. Everything was the Democrats fault. They were ruining the country. They are crazy, etc.

The was a lot of jumping up and clapping North Korean- style by the GOPers for everything he said. That included the only policy I heard announced. He envisions tariffs eventually replacing income taxes. Of course he lied and said other countries pay them. Another lie like all the rest.

I especially liked the part about tariffs replacing the income tax. We’re going to have to import a hell of a lot more goods to generate $2 trillion a year. “STOP buying American, people! The greatest military in the world needs you to generate more tariffs by buying foreign goods. California wines suck; pay five times as much for a French wine so our boys don’t run out of bullets!” I’m curious if he’ll have to close U.S. factories by force to stop us from preferring domestic goods; fortunately, he already has his brown-shirt militia (ICE!) to handle that for him

Oh, how could I forget the retirement accounts to be like federal workers have — but for Americans without a 401(k). Maybe because I figure it is another line of bologna, like the DOGE checks and the tariff refund checks.

I am so relieved I didn’t watch it. He is an evil man who is destroying our nation. Shame on those Republicans who stood and applauded for him. How can they live with themselves?

SUE Speaks's avatar

He is delusional. How disgusting that he kept getting applause.

James Coyle's avatar

From the equally delusional.

James Coyle's avatar

“The flame of liberty and independence still burns brightly in every American patriot.” Here, Trump says something that is accidentally true. But none of those patriots can be found in his administration or among his supporters.

What a travesty. What an utter disgrace. We have turned ourselves into a nation like North Korea or one of those eastern European communist countries from the past where the so-called representatives of the people would sit before their Dear Leaders and applaud their inane and endlessly tedious utterances.

There is no hope for us unless we re-examine our values and reinvent ourselves completely. Out with the old, in with the new. Else, we are doomed.

James Coyle's avatar

True enough, but we are not yet North Korea or the old Soviet satellites. This was strictly a show. Your last paragraph is spot on, but it's coming. And soon. And I hope "the new" will be based on a re-examination of those founding values.

Let us begin by voting out all Republicans and MAGA Democrats.

This is the age of racism and rapism and it appears as if the "Supreme" Court of the United States is prepared to do nothing about it, because at least two of said judges are role models for this heinous behavior. And we all know that, in no uncertain terms.

Just ask Christine Blasey Ford and Anita Hill.

In addition, we have Stephen Miller writing Nazi speeches and pulling the strings of the tRump puppet so eloquently and clandestinely... but we know that too. Did you see the video of his high school speech?

Anyone who still supports these monsters are to be condemned and rooted out. What disgraceful, contemptuous, degenerates they are, every one of them.

He is insane, sadistic, delusional, and it’s terrifying. Even worse, republicans

in Congress know it, his Cabinet knows it and republican party leaders

know it. I’ve never even heard of that

many people being that irresponsible.

He’s still murdering people in boats in the Caribbean without any evidence of their wrongdoing. The number of dead is over 130 now. He obviously has no respect for human life. He has no respect for the law either, being the most corrupt president in U.S. history.

He has the emotional maturity of a

brain impaired five year old. He’s incapable of being truthful, to himself or anyone else. He lives purely in the moment, unaware and uncaring of everyone but himself. He has no sense of right and wrong. Every republican in both the House & the Senate should be arrested for enabling him, with the possible exception of Thomas Massie.

I drift off to sleep at night by picturing

him being dragged out of the White House by Seal Team 6.

While Fox News will do its best to keep the lies alive, I can't help but think that many of his voters and even MAGAe might have scratched their heads and thought, "Well, I just paid $3.99 a gallon to fill my tank to get to my minimum wage job, got the cheapest off-brand groceries I could find and had little left over to go until the end of the month. Not sure about this Golden Age stuff." The beauty of this travesty of a speech was the ass-kissing of the Republicans. They just sealed the deal on being ousted in November. A clip of a blatant Trump lie/the wild and mindless cheering of his gang. This and the ravages of the Big Ugly Bill will be all we'll need, coupled with fit-the-district, hard-charging, articulate Democrats to bring the Congressional nightmare to a close. Then we begin again, growing, hardening and sharpening our resistance, developing a platform of reform, renewal, regulation, unity and hope. We'll be ready for 2028 with bells on. And for all his SOTUs between now and then, he'll have some 'splaining to do.

For the sake of my personal mental health, I did not watch. It is necessary that I do not view or listen to this so called person. A sad state of affairs, indeed.

Steven Beschloss's avatar

Understandable.

Mary K. Vincent's avatar

I stayed away. I cannot stand his voice or his mannerisms.

I believe I saw Mephistopheles in the background smirking. The bill is coming due soon Mr Trump.

Thanks Steven: Yes you are the hottest country. Being in Hell is a very hot place. I didn't miss the expressions on the faces of Justices Roberts and Amy Coney Barrett ..

JD Vance is going to eliminate fraud and BALANCE THE BUDGET! Wait a sec … isn’t that what DOGE was about? It sounds a lot like “We OBLITERATED the Iranian nuclear program last year (yay, us!)” and now witkopf says Iran is about a week away from having the bomb. Say WHAT?

Btw: Waste and Abuse must have their feelings really hurt tonight; they USED to get equal billing with Fraud

Hi

Thank you for studying his words and motives behind them, Steven. I could not.

I agree with everything you shared above.

I avoided watching the vile theatrics - as you so aptly stated;

“His descriptions could rightly be described as violence porn.”

Thanks again

AVee. (Alexia)'s avatar

Thank you Steven

Difficult to read but essential for us to do so.

Excerpt from Steven’s article.

“What made this especially sickening was not just that Trump was using them to justify his hateful and murderous deportation operation and his growing desire to deploy the American military in deadly operations—including to Venezuela last month, Mexico in recent days and possibly Iran in the days to come—he did it with such sadistic pleasure.

His descriptions could rightly be described as violence porn.”

I watched 10 minutes and that was enough. If he had to pay a penalty for every lie he’s told in his life he’d be destitute.

Mary K. Vincent's avatar

Maybe he earns cash for every lie he tells.

That would explain his wealth
