This desecration of anything remotely resembling justice (by seeking to remove the seditious conspiracy indictment against Stewart Rhodes) is all the more troubling in light of the fact that our mobster-in-chief is hellbent on usurping $1.776 BILLION out of our tax dollars so that he can pay his misbegotten band of thugs. Why else would he do so except to fund and arm a private army of mercenaries whom he will be able to let loose to subvert our elections?

Trump never fails to fail. I believe he will do so again.

Yes we must not look away!

Thank YOU for not looking away!

I opened your attached link, reread, and copied two excerpts:

The first to Rhodes at his trial over Jan 6th.

.” Judge Mehta did not hesitate asserting the key role of Rhodes, actions which he said amounted to domestic terrorism: “He was the one giving the orders. He was the one organizing the teams that day. He was the reason they were in fact in Washington, D.C. Oath Keepers wouldn’t have been there but for Stewart Rhodes, I don’t think anyone contends otherwise. He was the one who gave the order to go, and they went."

And this second excerpt, your comment, Steven

”On this Memorial Day, we may pause and recall over 400,000 U.S. military deaths during World War II to fend off the Nazis and myriad attacks against freedom and the democratic way of life. It will take the continuing commitment to justice and service to country by people like Amit Mehta to ensure more seditious conspiracists receive long prison sentences—reminders of the need to hold such violent opponents of democracy accountable and to honor so many Americans who sacrificed their lives. For the good of the country, may there soon be more examples of justice served at the highest levels.

I'd like to see the Supreme Court expanded and have Judge Mehta on there.

Wishing everyone a wonderful, safe, healthy Memorial Day Weekend. Some gave all (including the 4 legged). All gave some. Remember that this weekend. Take a minute to honor the brave men and women who served and those left behind.

Rhodes is just the guy he needs to rile up an army to really gp an disrupt our elections and stir up a civil war. I sure hope local police departments are on the lookout to stop these things before they can get off the ground. God have mercy on our Democracy.

Now is a good time to get to know your local PD officers, where sympathies lie & where leadership stands. County Sheriff Offices — Here they usually provide security at polling places because counties run elections. All will usually send someone to meet with communities. No city is too large or too small to nudge the badges.

A widespread problem across the country mostly forgotten. We don’t know if it improved. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/aug/27/white-supremacists-militias-infiltrate-us-police-report Many militia groups actively recruit from law enforcement & anyone with a military background. It is free training & trainers for them. It’s a centerpiece of the 3 Percenters. In May of 2020 when emotions ran high, the tiny city of Audubon Park fielded complaints re: decals stickers on PD cars. A small symbol easily overlooked. (The offenders were former Louisville PD officers with disciplinary records.) The city was embarrassed? Didn’t know? 3 Percenters became infamous when one hanged Andy Beshear in effigy at the Gov’s Mansion outside the children’s bedroom windows at the end of a “Patriot rally). The Gov’s face was pinned on the ‘body’ with the message: “sic semper tyrannis" (“thus always to tyrants"), as shouted by John Wilkes Booth at Lincoln before assassinating him.

“… I am the assistant Chief of the Audubon Park Police Department. Mayor … has shared your message with me and understands your concerns … [blah blah blah]

Chief … has asked me to also extend his apologies. We failed as leaders by not educating ourselves about this group. On its face, this group appears to be a group that supports and will defend the Constitution. Something that we all do as Americans. What we did not know was that this symbol has been adopted by several extremist groups whose ideology is certainly not aligned with that of our department or our officers. We remain dedicated to serving ALL of our residents equally and justly. Thank you for contacting us about this.”

Thank you Professor Beschloss. As we are into this Memorial Day weekend would challenges us all to remember all those paid the sacrifices to defend our Constitution and nation. This includes the four legged ones along with all the men and women. As for these POS they aren’t worth the air to breath any freedoms and whatever it’s become what some may say is “justice” is quite appalling..

On this Memorial Day weekend, here's something to consider: At least twice a year, on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, we celebrate those took up arms (or were willing to do so) to defend democracy. We don't do all that much to celebrate those who have defended and furthered democracy by other means, though we do single out certain individuals: Presidents Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, Susan B. Anthony and a handful of others. Is it surprising that Stewart Rhodes and many of those who descended on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, believed that democracy (as they saw it) was best defended with violence?

We counter this by emphasizing the vote, the ballot box, but at best we only vote a few times a year, and that's if we pay attention to primaries and municipal elections, which many of us don't. In marked contrast, economic interests -- corporations, the very wealthy, etc. -- are at it 24/7/365. They are handsomely rewarded for their efforts, for instance by the Reagan administration and everything that's followed and, more recently, by the Citizens United decision of 2010, which ruled (among other things) that corporations are part of "we the people."

In "Pretty Boy Floyd," Woody Guthrie sang that "Some will rob you with a six-gun / Some with a fountain pen." The tools have been updated, but that's still true. And military might isn't able to overcome it.

Sorry if I missed something, but wasn’t Rhodes pardoned? If so, how is he now subject to sentencing for his crimes?

Sharon C Storm's avatar

His sentence was commuted, but he is still considered guilty of seditious conspiracy. He’s trying to get that cleared off his record.

Vickie Berry's avatar

His sentence was commuted not pardoned.

I learned today that the "Justice" Department is systematically removing all their files regarding the J6 convictions from its data base. Some concerned people are working tirelessly to archive as much of the data that is publicly available, so that history won't be warped and undermined by this action. trump has made plain that he intends to wipe out any and all traces of his culpability in his systematic killing of America. From his constant verbiage of division, J6 and the Big Lie, Venezuelan boatman, to rapacious corruption he is like a thief in the night. He throws his offenses into our faces and ordains they be rendered harmless, if rendered at all. All the indictments. All the trials' proceedings. All the traces of his guilt, wiped away by sucking data out of history. This may be his greatest offense so far: to gaslight us all thoroughly and without any shame at all.

Without modernizing the Constitution as I suggested in my book released 5 Jam 2024 and no longer being printed, there is little we can do that dictator Trump, his lackey politicians and MAGA (Make America Gullible Again) hypnotized sheep will got to extremes to prevent. If his followers do well in September. he will get the Constitution revised to have unlimited terms. The Founding Fathers really screwed the system when they agreed to let each state make its own federal voting criteria and gerrymandering of congressional districts A for sure to be abused eventually (It a happened one year after the Constitution was ratified. We must compose and get public support for a Constitution that established a real democracy by giving Recall, Veto and Amendment rights directly to the governed.

This Memorial Day, I think of the 13 soldiers killed in Trump's illegal war against Iran, a war that Republican majorities in Congress have enabled. What do their families feel this first Memorial Day without their loved ones who died because of Trump's narcissism. People join the military to defend democracy, and Trump and his henchmen mock their service as they attempt to wipe out a lawful verdicts and issue pardons as a means of building a future private army, lest the regular armed forces not support a future insurrection. Two of my ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War on the Colonial side. One of their descendants, my great-grandfather and his brother, fought on the Union side in the Civil War. Another great-grandfather, a recent immigrant from Germany, also fought on the Union side and suffered a leg wound in a Tennessee battle that left him using a cane for the rest of his life. All of them fought for their country not against it.

Have one word for demented donny and his minions: DESPICABLE! We must vote in numbers to large to refute. The electoral vote count must be scrutinized by our most reliable, honest electeds. Said before, say again, Vance is NO Pence who up-held the Constitution when all hell was breaking around the Capitol.
