The bully quality undergirds all the rest which feeds the stupidity. This is an incurious and therefore dangerous man, who was granted the vote of the people to do right by us. I have had to reconcile myself to the fact that of that 77 million, and of those who didn't vote, they are not high information voters. They may be disengaged from the corrupt assaults on media, law, medicine, academia, grace and truth. But I've got to believe that once gas hits $6.00/gallon and food soars even higher than it is, and many won't be able to make the rent/mortgage, and an ungodly number will have lost their healthcare...then that reality will pierce their safe bubbles, awaken them to what this low man has done to this nation, and vote like the future depended on it. Because it does. Maybe one of the only positive things that might come out of this god-forsaken war is that the majority of Americans will unite to stop it, to condemn its perpetrators, to demand change for the better angels of our nature.

Except if the MAGA voters and possibly the non-voters are still watching Faux Nuz, they're still calling Democrats stupid names and blaming them for everything that is not going well in their lives.

The people of Iran have been protesting against a repressive regime for years, and will likely have to continue to do so under a new, also repressive regime.

Here, where we had an approximation of a democracy, 77 million voters and those who couldn't be bothered to vote have foolishly put our people in the same position as the Iranians. I'm not convinced that they even know or sadly, even care about what they've so proudly destroyed.

People are motivated by a lot of things. I think that if the economic conditions in this country are as bad as they can get (whatever outer reach that is), they will express their discontent at the polls. Trump pulled a whole lot of people from the non-voting population by virtue of being a demagog in the right place at the right time. There is a great swath out there who will vote with their feet, and it's our job to see to it that they do. It's on us to make the case and reap the power.

Nah. The voters who like immigrants being disappeared, American citizens killed by masked, unidentifiable goons, and a bully-boy who treats women and young girls as a playground.....they will be cheering Trump on until the very end. It isn't Trump causing high gas prices. It is the Iranians. Higher grocery prices are caused by " the middle men". And once those voters win the lottery, they will be on "easy street". Just like Trump.

Um, it’s in the title, Robyn.

You are right. Just wanted to make my point that what stupid Trump does, stupid MAGA follws.

A bully does love to invoke fear to build his ego!

But it is always the greed of others that keep him in power.

Money and special favors are also the hallmarks of a protection racket, not just fear.

Our government is being run by an organized Crime Syndicate.

The felon disparaged NATO, insulted, tariffed, and/or abandoned all of our allies, and now wants help?

How unbelievably #%&@ing stupid is he?

However, if you look at this from his own historical perspective, this is how he's always been treated. Just look at the many businessmen and attorneys he's cheated and stiffed over his life. Look at the many members of Congress and his cabinets he's insulted and fired over the past ten dreadful years.

Regardless of all this, there is still no shortage of people lined up to curry favor with this petty, hateful, and disloyal man.

You want stupid, just look at this group. Fool me once....

This coarse loudmouth, with “the taste of a water buffalo”, now has the bullhorn of fascism and is using it with abandon. We are all the poorer for it, both literally and figuratively. What a time to be alive.

How do we maintain our equilibrium with the beating of the authoritarian drum guiding our every step on the world stage? Trump is so tone-deaf that he is unaware that the curtain is falling on his performance and that the tomatoes are being hurled at him from all sides of the Atlantic. He accepts and sees nothing but roses coming his way. Such delusion is possible only by those propping him up; his advisors, Congress, and the MAGA faithful, which includes an ever-expanding media landscape.

Some of us will try to stay and fight for our deeply-embedded American hopes and dreams, and create our own Ellis Island of democracy. Some of us will give up. Some of us will leave the country, as did our ancestors in Germany and elsewhere, looking for a better life outside the “iron curtain” of fascism. I am not here to judge anyone. We think we have our votes as cudgels against a dictatorship, but for how long? Do we have the strength to confront the onslaught of authoritarianism? More to the point, do we recognize it as such?

Questions, questions…and no certain answers. No clear choices. No road map except our own consciences and a sense of duty to our country and fellow citizens. There is no vaccination for this public disease which may kill off any sense of justice, peace and participation in what used to be our democracy.

I’m sorry to be so pessimistic, but that’s how I feel. Light the torch. Beat the drum of democracy. Perhaps it will scare away the demons that await. I remember a nursery ditty from my childhood, “From Ghoulies and Ghosties, long-leggity Beasties, and things that go bump in the night…good Lord, deliver us!”. Please.

It’s staggering to think that Trump has so little regard for foreign intelligence that he dismissed experts’ concerns that Iran would block the Strait of Hormuz, and was surprised to learn that Iran has a navy. His ignorance is beyond comprehension, and the toadies who prop him up are reprehensible. He really had to dig deep to find these supremely unqualified people to populate his cabinet.

Ann Sharon's avatar

This term he feels invincible & is insulated by the dysfunctional Congress and those toadies.

Omg yes, Steven

We have a degenerative operative in the White House …. declaring it would be fun to keep bombing… but

I saw him say that..

As if he was saying something cute.

I’m with you…..

“It’s useful to recall the wise words of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, sizing up the reality of trying to do business with a bully convinced that everyone should bend to his will, no matter how foolish.

“The powerful have their power,” he said in Davos without specifically mentioning Trump. “But we have something too—the capacity to stop pretending, to name reality, to build our strength at home and to act together.”

Karoline Leavitt, the president’s press secretary, said on Saturday. “He is wise enough to know that operations like these are judged by their outcomes. And if the U.S. can say the Iranian military capability is wiped out, the president knows that will be one of the greatest accomplishments of any president in modern times.”

- NY Times, 3-16-26

Has the woman any idea how ridiculous this sounds? Who is she to make these judgments? Why would anybody listen to her? What must the world think of our country? Yuk!!!

I could not be more committed to the long term prosperity of my country, but in the short term, I sincerely hope and pray our allies do not submit to Trump's requests for assistance and support. They should remain on the sidelines and let this fool flounder and, eventually, fail. Let it all come down, so that we can rebuild anew. Other world leaders have a responsibility to their countrymen, and to administer as many "face punches" for as long as it takes to end the global scourge and national disgrace that is our incompetent bully of a president and his preposterously foolish administration.

I think 47 is deeply into frontotemporal dementia and is being manipulated by Jared K and others to do this. 47 has NO CLUE what he's really doing. He believes the lies and insults he's spewing and has no filter on what he says or does (probably the most scary thing about him now). Follow the money and the evangelical fantasy that this all will hasten the Second Coming. And 47 is just their puppet.

Ann Sharon's avatar

OK, but isn’t that is considered an early onset condition? Usually before age 60; progresses quickly with an average life expectancy of a few years after symptoms begin.

These are things he wanted to do in his first term & was outmaneuvered by those around him including the generals. It was bad enough that Mattis warned us on his way out & spent a lot of time sleeping in his clothes & praying at the National Cathedral. He holds grudges against “his” former generals and cleaned house as he arrived for this term to clear the way for this action.

Iran was on the list of countries he wanted to bomb then too. There were strikes on Syria & Iraq. There ones on Somalia, Yemen and Afghanistan. He wanted to hit cartel drug production in MX and blame another country. Pressured but stopped short of bombing Venezuela. I’m beginning to think the only reason he ran as a ‘peace president’ was to get a Nobel Prize bc Obama did & then he could bomb to his heart’s content.

The article you post was written in 2020. A LOT has happened since then and because his dementia is progressing apace, he has NO internal guard rails and can't remember so many things/people/reality and is easily manipulated. There is no one anywhere near the White House to tell him no, like Mattis and others did.

He wants everything that Obama had - peace prize etc - and to destroy whatever he can that Obama did - Iran Nuclear deal that worked. Obama made fun of him at a Washington Press Corps dinner and that was when 47 started talking seriously about running for president. He's been a malignant narcissist his whole life so he could not stand to be mocked - especially by a black man (racist as well). With the dementia his stupidity and narcissism is even more blatant. He can't hide it now.

Frontotemporal Dementia does strike earlier in life than Alzheimer's generally but it can happen later as well. Google the symptoms of FTD and see how similar they are to what he's doing now.

Ann Sharon's avatar

Yes, I know. I used that article because it was that old and showed he wanted to do most of the same things; had the same resentments but those around him contained it.

This term he made sure no one would be a guard rail & SCOTUS gave him immunity. So whatever deterioration he has is one thing. His feeling of invincibility is was reinforced by the ‘success’ of his other bombings and Venezuela this term. All the fawning by world leaders underscored it. Before he was president he said “tariffs” and they all including Trudeau ran to Mar a Lago. It fed the delusions of being all powerful.

I don’t doubt that he is being egged on by those around him but he chooses whose advice he takes. (Cain gave several cautions particularly about the Straits) IMO his Billionaire Cabinet is on the same page: control global oil market & economy. Then you control the world.

Great quote: "a deeply broken, grievance-filled man driven by victimhood and one of the most obvious bullies to ever step near the Oval Office. This is a very stupid man who imagines he can—not just bully enemies as military strategy—but abuse allies and they’ll keep coming back for more."

When this idiot’s idiotic idiocy hits voters pocketbooks it will begin the ending of his stupidity. He has no qualities Thant will protect him or anyone who has been supporting him. Thanks Steven: Yes you have a old , immature , decrepit , mentally incapacitated , bully boy who pees is your porridge and expects you to eat it. He gets his little boy Pete the apostle from the Book of Asses to put their toy soldiers back into the closet and use the real soldiers to bomb the hell out of Iran causing major global problems. Trump and all his inept trumpets expect those that are in need of oil should come and straighten out the straits of Hormuz. Not needed now because he claims he won. This president of chaos can create problems by just staying in bed. Keep the Epstein files on the front burner and maybe the Zorro Ranch will offer some evidence . What a boatload of trumpian garbage we got this weekend from the despotic simpleton occupying our White House. The underlings he sent to the Sunday news shows were woefully unprepared for the probing questions lobbed at them and they resorted to tried and true lies, prevarications, and made-up “facts” to respond to those questions. November can’t come soon enough.

I take exception to the word "bully" in the context of describing Trump -- it does not do justice to what we are up against. Trump is a psychopath. Bullies are people who most of us have come into contact with in ordinary life circumstances; psychopaths are a whole other matter. Bullies do what they do because they can only feel big and strong by making others feel weak and powerless; psychopaths do what they do because they get great pleasure and satisfaction from chaos and destruction. We can stop a bully by standing together, setting boundaries, and yes, punching back if need be; ultimately, the bully stops when self-preservation kicks in. The psychopath cannot be constrained in the same way. There is a reason why Trump kept talking about Hannibal Lector. And why he keeps fantasising about using nuclear weapons. It is a huge mistake to think of Trump as a mere bully -- this is to significantly underestimate him. You can stop a bully with protest marches and midterm elections; you cannot stop a psychopath with the same. The psychopath can only be stopped by removing him from society through imprisonment or destruction.
