All of this is very weird in a most ominous way. It’s weird beyond words that one man was able to stage a coup to stop the peaceful transfer of power for the very first time in our nation’s history…and that now as head of our government, he has enlisted the very forces of evil within it to to stage another coup by various means and subvert the will of the people.
It’s weird that he was re-elected in spite of his first coup attempt. It’s weird that his corruption is willfully ignored by the republicans in Congress. It’s getting weirder and weirder that his justice department and FBI seek to investigate and invalidate Nixon’s crimes and corruption of 50 years ago, when volumes and volumes have been written about this era…and laws passed to prevent another Watergate.
But the weirdest yet is that he is allowed by his own party to freely roam the country, spouting expletives and filth in order to win an election that he wants to stop altogether. It is weird because no other president has ever used such language or embarrassed us in such an overt fashion. In the past, history has left that to the dictators of the world.
It is ultimately the weirdest thing ever that this man has his fingers on the nuclear code and continues to be permitted to wage war with the right hand and destroy our sacred institutions, both ideological and physical, with the left hand. “From ghoulies and ghosties, long-leggity beasties, and things that go (Trump) bump in the night, Good Lord, deliver us!”
If/when this corrupt regime attempts to overturn the results of the midterms (assuming that the Dems take control), there must be peaceful but massive, prolonged general strikes throughout the country. The White House, the Capitol, and the Supreme Court should be ringed with chanting protestors 24/7 (we can work in shifts). If all of this falls on deaf ears, then we start withholding payment of any federal taxes and choke them wherever and however we can.

There is only one constitutional remedy for the multiple abuses of the provisions of our Constitution you accurately describe: Impeachment and conviction/removal.
The SCOTUS has refused on multiple occasions to hold this illegal and corrupt president accountable, and there’s no reason to believe they won’t continue to do so, regardless of who is in the majority in Congress. Even if they do change course and start applying an impartial constitutional framework to their decisions, they have no enforcement power for those decisions.
Furthermore, unless Democrats take a sufficient majority in the Senate to overcome the complicity and irresponsibility of the Republicans in that body, even impeachment by the House will once again prove to be performative and completely ineffectual without conviction and removal by the Senate.
Yes, we must all vote for Democratic and Independent congressional representatives who are committed to doing everything in their power to hold this dangerous lunatic to account. But what, given the increasingly evident shortcomings of our Constitution in dealing effectively with a fascist autocrat in the executive branch, will that really change?
Our elections only matter if their outcomes are respected, and we have no reason to believe that will happen and every reason to believe it won’t. Who will enforce the outcome, and how will they do that? When Congress was attacked on January 6, they didn’t fight, they fled. The brave law enforcement officers, who were the only ones doing their duty to protect our government, were overcome with force, and only the conscience of the Vice President put an end to the attempted coup. Four years later, the levers of power were given back to the very same person who orchestrated that coup on his own behalf. And all he’s done since is to consolidate more power and make success more inevitable with the next attempt, which will be in 29 days.
I am losing hope for our country. The feeling I awoke to on that morning-after in 2016 has not gone away. It has only become stronger and more unbearable as the unthinkable becomes real and the intolerable becomes compulsory. We are adrift with a lunatic at the helm and our ship is being rocked to pieces.
