Your well worded essay poses the question: What are we fighting for?
I reviewed the beginning of the
Declaration of Independence “which centers on core Enlightenment ideas:
-natural rights (life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness),
-the social contract where governments derive power from the consent of the governed,
-and the right of citizens to alter or abolish a destructive government.”
I’ve stayed in the “fight” because we need honest leaders restored; we need Truth as one of government’s core principles;and we need Separation of Powers and the Constitution actually honored. We need a Justice department that in actuality … seeks true Justice, not one punishing because seashells form numbers.
I’m a former teacher fighting for teachers to have power to do their job which is raise up citizens. I’m doing that by exposing why teachers haven’t been able to do their intended job. I just revised my website at WhiteChalkCrime.com so that it teaches what’s in my book A Graver Danger because most people won’t read books and this book needs to be read so we can get our schools (soul) back.
What I value most about this country is that, despite its many failings, it was founded upon and continues to aspire to upholding and enacting a form of government that gives a voice to the people who do the hard work of building and sustaining a nation. And not, as has so often been the case, been a front for a grifting elite who somehow manage to reverse gravity and contrive the make dollars swim upstream into their private enclaves at the expense of those very workers, thinkers, teachers, cleaners, and community builders who created this wealth in the first place. When and if we lose this power of the people entirely, we will have become Not America-slash-Same Old, Same-Old.
I am at the end of being involved in the American political story. From now on, I will be focused on aging but what I care about, being an American, It would be this list which I would say has already been addressed by the Preamble and the Bill Of Rights:
The prospects and opportunities for my grandchildren,
Fair-equitable-sustainable living for all Americans,
A system of education that is well funded, is capable of producing, smart, creative critical thinkers.
And even though, "Rights", are based in subjectivity and are fictional, the rights of citizens require a redress of the Bill-- the 1st ten amendments require cleaning up. FDR's Proposed 2nd Bill can be reviewed.
P.S. It is not about fighting. Isn't democracy an attempt to eliminate "Fighting"?
