I think it is an abomination. At the very least he should pay taxes. Just think of all the monetary issues and needs that could be met just through taxation on wealth. That said, SpaceX should be nationalized. It would not exist except for government welfare to prop up Elon’s many failures and continued failures. Taxation on wealth or nationalization!

Doesn't make up for his being a jerk

It's sad. And enraging.. The sad part is that his choices strike me as someone who has no soul. The engaging part is for what is no longer an unrealistic amount of money, $30 billion, we can end the vast if not all hunger and food insecurity in America. No one human being should ever have this much power. Dr. Evil from Austin Powers is no longer an 8th grade boys bathroom joke. He is very real. Thank you.

I was thinking about this while I was out running this morning. How about if he used that money to pay for universal health care for everyone in the States? Or fund free childcare from birth through start of school? Or - pick anything that would HELP instead of hurt?

For him to be a trillionaire while programs like USAID have been obliterated and people are starving is obscene.

Indeed. Elon wasn't dancing on stage with a chainsaw for nothing.

Elon Musk is living off the largesse of the US Gov't, which is our tax money. He is the biggest welfare queen in America. On top of that, he developed DOGE, his personal team of hackers, that violated our institutions, firing professionals and career employees dedicated to serving the government, the public, destroying our institutions. He has his hands in destroying our safety, security, and health surveillance throughout the world. He is a pestilence.

I think it’s high time we come up with a brutal tax on assets for billionaires. Not income, because they have virtually none. They live like kings but manage to pay less in taxes than ordinary people. No, assets. Anything over a billion, the government takes half every year. This obscene wealth accumulation first clearly drives people insane, and also puts way too much power in the hands of one individual. Enough power to influence elections, buy politicians, buy an image.

If we ever kick out this monstrous regime before it causes much more damage, it’s going to be a painful slog back up.

The higher they fly, the further they fall. All the money in the world will not make Elon a decent human being.

He should be required to restore, reconstitute and generously fund USAID out of his personal fortune. Nothing will bring back the hundreds of thousands of lives that have been lost but he owes compensation to the surviving family members as well as funding the programs going forward.

He should be required to restore and fund the increased local health systems that will be needed to care for the increased numbers of human beings who will suffer and die from HIV/AIDS because of the suspension of PEPFAR. He ought to know but doesn’t care that gaps in treatment increase the odds of resistant strains of viruses developing and early death.

He should repay the treasury for the tax benefits that enabled the growth of his fortune. He can well afford to do so. Ordinary taxpayers shouldn’t be subsidizing the businesses and personal fortune of a trillionaire.

I take issue with people who frame it as: he’s worth $1 trillion. Sometimes it’s just implied, but it’s invalid. He’s worth no more than you or me. Arguably, much less.

We should all be valued by our effect on others-what use we’ve made of our life. Rather than hyping the paper valuation of his companies, we should be highlighting the lives he’s destroyed and the widespread misery that lies in his wake. That is the true measure of his value.

He can't take it with him, but he can do a hell of a lot damage en route to hell.

Musk wonders why people boo him and in general dislike him. He is a sociopath, in that he has no regard for others, society in general, no empathy or compassion. I think about how he could better the US and world with that money, and get accolades and satisfaction from that. But honestly, I don’t think he is wired for that kind of recognition. It is so sad, and frankly repulsive.

Seriously worse is that this administration is full of people like musk .

One of the challenges of the current moment is that the English language is not equal to the task of expression. Well, maybe the Bard came close, In Timon of Athens, Act 4, scene 3:

Gold? Yellow, glittering, precious gold?

No, gods, I am no idle votarist.

Roots, you clear heavens! Thus much of this will make

Black white, foul fair, wrong right,

Base noble, old young, coward valiant.

Ha, you gods! Why this? What this, you gods? Why, this

Will lug your priests and servants from your sides,

Pluck stout men’s pillows from below their heads.

This yellow slave

Will knit and break religions, bless th’ accursed,

Make the hoar leprosy adored, place thieves

And give them title, knee, and approbation

With senators on the bench.

He has gotten where he is by trampling on rules, laws, and the backs of all of us in this country. He is a gangster, shyster, manipulative and selfish user of whatever and whomever he can get his filthy mitts on. He uses money, people, and this planet, like disposable toilet tissue. Just another would-be emperor with steeper megalomaniacal tendencies than Trump.
