I think it is an abomination. At the very least he should pay taxes. Just think of all the monetary issues and needs that could be met just through taxation on wealth. That said, SpaceX should be nationalized. It would not exist except for government welfare to prop up Elon’s many failures and continued failures. Taxation on wealth or nationalization!
It's sad. And enraging.. The sad part is that his choices strike me as someone who has no soul. The engaging part is for what is no longer an unrealistic amount of money, $30 billion, we can end the vast if not all hunger and food insecurity in America. No one human being should ever have this much power. Dr. Evil from Austin Powers is no longer an 8th grade boys bathroom joke. He is very real. Thank you.
I was thinking about this while I was out running this morning. How about if he used that money to pay for universal health care for everyone in the States? Or fund free childcare from birth through start of school? Or - pick anything that would HELP instead of hurt?
He’s a lot like his grandfather from the racism, antisemitism, conspiracy theories, using names with numbers & ‘technocracy’ government. Elon has tweeted about building a Technocracy on Mars. Perhaps also where Drumpf’s desire to take Canada and control North America comes from because the technocrats want to erase national borders to govern continents. No need for an elections. A few appointed technical experts would run things so efficiently workers would hardly need to work at all. Utopia.
I wholeheartedly agree with you, traa151. The world-wide tragedy of the loss of available nutrition and medical assistance to starving children and their families breaks my heart. Elon Musk is a MONSTER!
It is even worse than Elon’s crime of rigging the 2024 Election through ballot manipulation. Both Felon47 and Musk have made plain statements affirming that the election was not won honestly.
Elon Musk is living off the largesse of the US Gov't, which is our tax money. He is the biggest welfare queen in America. On top of that, he developed DOGE, his personal team of hackers, that violated our institutions, firing professionals and career employees dedicated to serving the government, the public, destroying our institutions. He has his hands in destroying our safety, security, and health surveillance throughout the world. He is a pestilence.
I think it’s high time we come up with a brutal tax on assets for billionaires. Not income, because they have virtually none. They live like kings but manage to pay less in taxes than ordinary people. No, assets. Anything over a billion, the government takes half every year. This obscene wealth accumulation first clearly drives people insane, and also puts way too much power in the hands of one individual. Enough power to influence elections, buy politicians, buy an image.
If we ever kick out this monstrous regime before it causes much more damage, it’s going to be a painful slog back up.
I take issue with people who frame it as: he’s worth $1 trillion. Sometimes it’s just implied, but it’s invalid. He’s worth no more than you or me. Arguably, much less.
We should all be valued by our effect on others-what use we’ve made of our life. Rather than hyping the paper valuation of his companies, we should be highlighting the lives he’s destroyed and the widespread misery that lies in his wake. That is the true measure of his value.
He should be required to restore, reconstitute and generously fund USAID out of his personal fortune. Nothing will bring back the hundreds of thousands of lives that have been lost but he owes compensation to the surviving family members as well as funding the programs going forward.
He should be required to restore and fund the increased local health systems that will be needed to care for the increased numbers of human beings who will suffer and die from HIV/AIDS because of the suspension of PEPFAR. He ought to know but doesn’t care that gaps in treatment increase the odds of resistant strains of viruses developing and early death.
He should repay the treasury for the tax benefits that enabled the growth of his fortune. He can well afford to do so. Ordinary taxpayers shouldn’t be subsidizing the businesses and personal fortune of a trillionaire.
Musk wonders why people boo him and in general dislike him. He is a sociopath, in that he has no regard for others, society in general, no empathy or compassion. I think about how he could better the US and world with that money, and get accolades and satisfaction from that. But honestly, I don’t think he is wired for that kind of recognition. It is so sad, and frankly repulsive.
Seriously worse is that this administration is full of people like musk .
Vulgar. Simply vulgar. How many kids from how many women? Ketamine fueled untethered buffoon. Morals-free; decadent. Today I turn 82, born one week to the day after D-Day. I receive in one month what Musk makes in less than an hour. From that stipend I pay my rent, buy groceries, get my meds and pay federal income tax (thank you, not, Ronald Reagan).
During my five-decades-long career in business I worked for many wealthy people. Most were fine, but there always were "that few". I remember one of my managers remarking, "I did not realize people so rich could be so disgusting." I reminded her, "Money does not make a better person."
One of the challenges of the current moment is that the English language is not equal to the task of expression. Well, maybe the Bard came close, In Timon of Athens, Act 4, scene 3:
Gold? Yellow, glittering, precious gold?
No, gods, I am no idle votarist.
Roots, you clear heavens! Thus much of this will make
Black white, foul fair, wrong right,
Base noble, old young, coward valiant.
Ha, you gods! Why this? What this, you gods? Why, this
Will lug your priests and servants from your sides,
Pluck stout men’s pillows from below their heads.
This yellow slave
Will knit and break religions, bless th’ accursed,

Ooooo Parker Ive never heard before! 💖
Love Dorothy Parker…💕
Only in America, Al, can sociopaths and virulent racists attain Croesus-like wealth — and be fawningly celebrated for their greed.
All the more reason for these monsters to have their wealth nationalized and redistributed for the common good.
Yes. This I, me, mine shit has run its course.
😡
Steven:"What does it say to you about the nature of our society?"
Gullible:
POTUS began inviting anti Trumpers to sue him since 2015 rallies:"Beat the crap out of that protester and I'll pay your legal fees."
No one did. This taught him how Gullible we are.

Proving again that he’s a criminal

Absolutely soulless. Empty heart, empty eyes.
And in seconds, I saw everything I need to know about this monstrous creature …

I agree. His parents lack souls too. Not sure about any grandparents. He comes from blood money. Literally.

The strange thing is that his grandfather died when he was a very small child. https://www.yahoo.com/news/elon-musks-grandfather-belonged-political-070410042.html
For him to be a trillionaire while programs like USAID have been obliterated and people are starving is obscene.
Indeed. Elon wasn't dancing on stage with a chainsaw for nothing.

Musk is a monster that people are bowing down to, just because of his wealth. We should ban DJT and Musk from any attention!
Doesn't make up for his being a jerk

All while he’s high on ketamine.
What could possibly go wrong?

He can't take it with him, but he can do a hell of a lot damage en route to hell.

The higher they fly, the further they fall. All the money in the world will not make Elon a decent human being.
Is his rocket made out of wax? Rename it "Icarus"!
Somewhere along the lifespan he learned how to become a Master Manipulator…still doesn’t make him a leader.
As did djt. They’re both narcissistic con artists.
