but we will not address any of it in an effective way...for decades, Dem voters on social sites have begged Dem reps to step up, fight fire w/fire. Yes politically ours is a much finer line to walk, unlike the anything goes terrain that Republicans walk.... as they literally have denounced to Constitution. But this is another moment to step up....NOW

I agree that the Democrats in government now should be doing everything they can to constrain the incoming "government" that is a continuation of the insurrection - not of 2020 but of Trump's initial play for the Presidency pre-Hilary. One long attempt to take over the government of the US to satisfy his personal greed and grandiosity. I have a quiet and desperate hope that the President, immune from legal repercussions, will declare martial law, arrest the traitors pending thorough investigation and long-term incarceration, and whatever other steps it takes to freeze and resolve the assault on the Constitution. He is sworn to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Steven, perhaps I'm clutching at straws here, but what do you make of the strong suspicion of the data scientist, Stephen Spoonamore that hacking might have taken place in some of the swing states through the insertion of so-called "bullet votes," which resulted in Trump being declared the winner in those states illegally?

Mr. Spoonamore has written an open letter to VP Harris urging her to demand a recount, which she alone has the authority to do: https://substack.com/@spoonamore/note/p-151721941?utm_source=notes-share-action&r=dkq3.

I appreciate the reframing here but as you praise Maddow on MSNBC - I have ceased watching MSNBC after the horrific Morning Joe beg for that meeting with Trump AT MAR A LAGO. And I was waiting for Maddow or ODonnell to speak to that disgusting action.

I think while we have ANY leverage these next two months we need to be calling out the media for the MANY WAYS they are now kowtowing to Trump and Johnson and his band of criminal picks. Maybe we can split the different and use On Target to make significant mention of what’s not On Target and finish with what you feel are positive examples of journalistic integrity? I’m seeing far too much of the other that cannot be ignored.

Thanks. There surely will be moments to acknowledge media fails. This conversation did include a brief mention of the cowardice of Joe and Mika.

I know. I love these vids and always enjoy watching them - I guess I just feel so disturbed by everything and am watching the clock tick down and feel like I am screaming into the void. I am probably delusional but I thought there would be push back from some of the people at MSNBC who’ve got integrity, over the Mika & Joe debacle. I did. I watched Mon eve in anticipation of said push back. And there was none. And I just am so utterly drained. I know focusing on what you want is always more effective than ruminating over what you don’t want. But/and, I feel like I am parenting toddlers again and I walk in the room and the entire place is covered in something awful - dripping from the ceiling, smeared on the walls … everywhere but one tiny little corner the size of a dollar bill that didn’t get demolished - and instead of gasping at the entire space of destruction; I’m trying to will myself to look at the dollar bill sized square and focus on my gratitude for its remaining integrity.

What about calling out the oligarchs and the corporations as well? Bezos and the owner of the LA Times, Zuckerburg and others?

As I have not, in fact, cancelled the NYT or WaPo I can notice that there are indeed stories in them that do NOT sanewash these appointments. I hope that Bezos and the NYT owners will take on the burden of defending any DOJ assault on reporters who report the facts even if trump dislikes them. And I hope that Biden will use his pardon power for EVERYONE who might be a target for such assaults. That might stiffen a few spines.

Thank for providing information concerning the issues with our freedoms under the next administration. All of us are wondering about the future of our country and our own safety. That being said, I will continue to follow the advice of those offering a way forward that doesn’t bow to the fascism and destruction of institutions we’ve depended upon all our lives.

There are a few journalists who speak honestly about the frivolous but dangerous snakes that will be slithering into DC corner offices-you two, brother Michael, Maddow, Jon Meacham. But most will continue as before-a few sentences of appointee's transgressions, then, interview them on air allowing them to spit out their lies. Hopefully, the Democratic Party will take an unbiased look inward, discern the need for new policies, new leaders, ask for members their advice instead of their money. I was embarrassed for Joe Biden with those big smiles and hearty handshake with dastardly donald. I pictured it as Churchill shaking hands with Hitler. I surely wanted Harris to win, but as I said before, enough with all that smiling whoop-dee-doo joy stuff. This was a fight that required a serious demeanor, concentration on the main concern - prices. Making it so dependent about

abortions didn't cut it. Not much interest by women over 50. Johnson always on news clips.

Schumer? Schumer? Schumer? (Bueller, Bueller Bueller?) There are some good Democrats. May they come to the fore with resolve, strong determination, repudiate with conviction that gets the attention of reporters who will in turn, have no choice but to clear the air with truth.

I agree that more points needed to be posted and focused on the fear talking points. trumpf et al posted misleading pictures of one adult trans player on a (California of course) community college basketball team as if this would be the new norm for public schools for children. They pushed the scare tactics over the top.

Harris and Walz already had us pro-choice voters on board. Actually, women over 70 are the ones who remember hearing the hushed talk in the other room about women's health after attempting self-abortions. I recall quite clearly the Catholic neighbor who brought by a poster asking me to share this with my parents (I wasn't old enough to vote quite yet.) She asked that they vote against pro-choice legislation. We in our family are pro-choice. We older ones also went to school with people who'd had polio. A woman younger than me caught rubella when pregnant (adopted, parents dead, didn't know if vaccinated) and their baby had multiple birth defects as a result in the 1970s.

My parents (still living and voting) grew up in the Great Depression. My great-aunt told me of a family down the road who didn't ask for help after the father left, and didn't tell anyone they were starving. No one had much, but they would have shared if they'd known. The mother and three children STARVED to death IN AMERICA in the 1930s.

We can and will do better.

Now after 82 years…I think I’ve experienced an Epiphany…for I seem to know now what drives otherwise normal law abiding citizens to risk their lives and violently turn against their governments. Or, to take up arms and join in a Civil War. For it’s only taken a couple of weeks since the election to understand our government, as we knew it, is being systematically destroyed and taken from us!! Tragically, once tRump gets control of the Military, which is only a matter of time, he or who eventually takes over will never surrender their hold without violence.

I don't think anything we do will make a difference based on the fact that Brett Kavanaugh was appointed to the Supreme Court even though he raped Christine Blasey Ford.. Amy Coney Barrett also got onto the Supreme Court having never tried a case.

Rachel is playing chess. Others should learn. Did groups opposing Gaetx, not just Democrats, choose the correct strategy of staying out of the Gaetz debate?

Democrats largely avoided making Matt Gaetz's actions a major public campaign, perhaps based on whatever temporary or perceived success achieved on Republican disarray during the R House speakership crisis. This allowed internal GOP conflicts to play out naturally without direct partisan play. Anti-Trump folks, not only D’s, may conclude this tactic emphasizes Republican dysfunction and Gaetz's role in the chaos.

But, was it a good strategy in the long run to let Republicans handle the Gaetz? I am thinking of upcoming battles over appointments and setting the groundwork for future exercise as a minority party to be reckoned with-think McConnell) However, for future battles over nominees or governance issues, groups who will oppose Trump's nominees, including Democrats, need a more proactive strategy, emphasizing shared themes like ethics, competence, and eventual specific weakness as a government with weak leaders all contributing to economic decline. A combination of these or other themes can impact public perception and prevent further normalization of problematic appointments, if not policies like no vaccinations, sharing military secrets with Russia or Syria, or initial steps to privatization of social security and medicare.

Reminds me of Neville Chamberlain. It took WWII and Winston Churchill to change course and win the war. Of course, after the war, Churchill was no longer appreciated. We live in tumultuous times.

Rachel is probably going to get fired. Mike will say "why shouldn't she be fired." Joe is being fitted for a red hat. Democrats will probably force Biden to leave before Christmas. Bezos will build a temple to Trump. Saying irs really the best policy and not an act of cowardice. And Mike will say, "Why shouldn't he build ... "
