My daughter-in-law and grandson marched in Minneapolis yesterday. Those who step forward to right the wrongs will lead us all through this current humiliating time!

The cult ignores The killing. Are they susceptible to brainwashing due to intellectual immaturity and emotional immaturity? Is their anger emotionally mature? Intellectually mature? They unknowingly put the oppressor on a throne and wrongly believe that the cult leaders have only the best intentions for their subjects?

Is it true that Hitler's popularity was at 42% among the German people at the time Hitler lost the capital, the last City he held, just before his suicide?

Hitler's death camps were in the news but after the war many Germans claimed they had no idea of the extremism in the camps.

Over 10 years Auschwitz killed 1.1 million and was about to kill another 0.2 million when Auschwitz was liberated. 1.3 million dead or intended dead is the number every year of US high School suicides and attempted suicides. After high School the entire us adult population add another 1.3 million dead or intended dead each year. The law requires that suicidal and homicidal people be asked: "do you want to kill?"

The US annual attempted 2.6 million killings has now increased to be about 1% of Americans try to die each year. My guess is that 99% of the US 3 million attempted killings annually occur without anyone ever asking this population:" do you want to kill?" as is required by law.

A congressional study found that 89% of us psychologists neglect to ask the question required by law or any scientific metrics that would prevent these killings. Thus We are The cult that ignores these killings by putting these quack shrinks on a throne? Quack shrinks get away with it because their practice is shrouded in confidentiality and up to 60% of their anxious subjects are cured by the placebo effect (the subjects are treated with little or no science). Millions of Americans attribute their placebo healing to science denying quack shrinks and would attack the capital on January 6th if their cult leaders were threatened by dethroning.

With all due respect, what does your post actually have to do with the Saturday Prompt: Who or What Gives You Hope Right Now?

Peggy McAloon's avatar

I am proud and hopeful, seeing the next two generations peacefully support what my forefathers shed blood to protect in this nation.

Barbara Ehrlich's avatar

This is bullshit. I’ve been a clinical psychologist for over 30 years (even in a state prison) and I’ve never had one person kill themselves or even self mutilate. If this is your experience, I feel sorry for you.

RFK … is that you? 🫥

After 10 years of tolerating MAGA displays like red hats and American flags in the back of trucks, we are not seeing even 5% of previous MAGA displays here in CT. This means those who were taken in by the hate and rage machine who proudly wore the gear are ashamed and concerned now. I’ve seen one MAGA red hat in the last 6 months in public ( at the grocery store). I pointed at the fellow and started to laugh. Everyone around smiled. The guy with the hat scurried away. We have finally had enough, and it’s not too late.

Gina N.'s avatar

I have noticed the same about MAGA displays in my ultra-conservative rural community here in Northern CA. The only difference may be at the local Walmart where I still see the "Red Hats" now and again, but that is mostly senior-aged MAGA.

David Holst-Grubbe's avatar

It’s telling. The strident MAGA in my senior golf league by the end of the season (October) were curious about ICE etc. Like asking what I thought. The energy is shifting and that’s why the administration and project 2025 architects are all in right now. They know it’s their only chance to destroy America. They’re panicking.

Anne Fowler's avatar

Just watched Joyce Vance and Maine Sec'y of State Shenna Bellows discussing ICE in Maine. Both women and our remarkable Mainers working to protect our New Mainers from assault, arrest, and deportation, give me hope

Jesus would have done what Don Lemon did. We should keep protesting in the streets and churches against Christofascism. I wrote a poem for Don as a tribute to his bravery: https://democracydefender2025.substack.com/p/don-lemon-poem

People who stand up for the marginalized folks; and also, young people such as Adam Mockler and Harry Sisson who actually read and make informed decisions. Lastly, but not least, Congress persons like Jasmine Crockett who fight the hood fight; as well as Adam Kinsinger who, knows the difference between right and wrong.

Bill Riley's avatar

Jasmine Crockett’s fire and brimstone righteousness raining down on MAGA, ICE-Gestapo, Miller, and the entire Trump shit show is beyond inspiring — it’s transformational! She’s debating her opposition in TX tonight— try to catch some of it if possible.

Philip Lupton's avatar

Thanks for the "heads-up," Bill. Will do...

Canadian strength, unity, pride, and resistance give me hope. Mark Carney's speech at Davos, Charlie Angus' broadcasts on MIdasCanada, Avi Lewis's campaign for leader of the NDP, Carney's call for a 400,000 person-strong volunteer civil defence army and everyone I know asking "where do I sign up?" Trump's threats have only made us stronger.

Hope springs from the folks in Minneapolis, in artic cold, striking and marching. They shut down the city. WOW! Also, that 5-year old being used to bait his father and then being treated as a criminal. What are these goons thinking? These clowns are not Americans, and MAGAs aren't either.

Kevin Crawford's avatar

The people of Minneapolis in the bitter freezing saying f*** the cold let’s go get em. It is open rebellion and the only proper response.

Ilene Winn-Lederer's avatar

Thank you for saying so, Kevin. These mercenary thugs must be taught to remember that fear when focused on them will force them to desert Trump‘s army by blowing away their love of money. That is my hope for today.

I hope this doesn't sound narcissistic, but I have to say that, in addition to the people of Minnesota and many others who've put their feet on the street in protest, I am a source of hope for myself. And it ain't easy, although it's getting easier. I am 77. There are those people who think a 'little old lady" (correction: old but not little) should occupy her time waiting for the Grim Reaper buy doing cross-stitch or other granny hobbies. I do crochet, but have postponed finishing the afghan I'm perennially trying to complete as a gift for my daughter in law in favor of 1) demonstrating--I've been to a half dozen so far; 2) writing a substack about issues related to the 'resistance"; 3) entering into a dialogue with any number of posters on other people's substacks; 4) engaging the minister of my church with the aim of encouraging his public statements of support for the resistance, putting out yard signs and flags, wearing resistance themed clothes when I go out; boycotting corporate offenders and even growing a veg garden in an effort to demonstrate self reliance of an extreme sort should things get to that point. I also message my senators and congressman every single week, as well as, on occasion, my governor and his attorney general. I donate money I might otherwise have spent on whatever optional stuff I might be tempted to buy to political groups and candidates I believe will leverage this money to accomplish the aims I believe to be important. I don't argue with family members, I don't harangue MAGA members. But I will be active as long as I remain standing. Yay, me.

I know a lovely, erudite and caring man who lives not far from you. I'll have to keep his identity protected, but he, too is on the side of the angels. I'm pretty sure there are any number of folk like him living in Texas. In fact, I just thought of another one, a Zen teacher and good friend of mine. She's with us, too, Julie. Fear not.

Leigh — you put some of us to shame / inspire us! 👏

Here’s how the ACLU are helping in the letter dept., in case you find it of interest:

— EMAIL LETTER : If you want to let CONGRESS know how you feel, re: the immigration ‘crackdown’ the ACLU has an Email letter - which you can adapt & send - to STOP ICE’s ATTACK on Our Communities:

— “As a member of Congress, you have a 🔹responsibility to hold ICE accountable for these abuses and demand answers – for the safety of every person that you represent. Specifically, I'm urging you to: • Demand an end to the ICE operation in Minneapolis and stop other large-scale escalations in our communities • Oppose any further funding to ICE's enforcement and detention budget, including the most recent appropriations bill. • Launch a transparent and independent investigation into the killing of Renee Nicole Good, ICE's reckless hiring spree, and its apparent failure to hold its agents accountable to the law We cannot sit idly by as our neighbors are killed. Every day, more people are subjected to abuse at the hands of ICE – and more of your constituents live in fear. I hope you'll act immediately to stop ICE's escalation and protect us all. Thank You Steven ..what gives me hope right now are our allies ..Trump's ignorance about history. One example is the history of WW ll . His ignorance is a nightmare. But that Europe and Canada are finally standing up to him instead of thinking that appeasing him will work. Canada has made a deal with China to buy 50,000 of there electric cars . Biden had put a 100% tarriff on China's cars and Canada followed suit . This was to protect our interconnected auto industry . Now that Canada has made a deal with China it sends a message to our buisinesses. Germany is thinking of taking it's gold out of the US . It has the second largest amount of gold in the world. It is in a bank in NY. Mark Carney's speech made me cheer . He is another hero . The world is fed up with not just Trump but with americans for electing him.. My hope is that the titans of industry get fed up with him and start defying him . Stop bending the knee .. This might wake america up . For now, I am still lost in america

JulieB's avatar

Beyond tragic.. our allies are united amongst themselves, but our relationship with them~ and NATO, is badly damaged.

This speaks to their new-found strength.

Look for an essay here, The Carney Doctrine.. Trump is never mentioned.

This is our Hope.

That's an interesting point.

Realizing only a 1.6+ slim majority did so … and likely that’s the number regretting it now? I see people here mentioning that ♦️red MAGA hats are much less prominent these days - they’re too embarrassed !!

Had Starmer recalled his ambassador in Washington yesterday, he could have gone down in history with Churchill

Jay Jay Eh's avatar

However he DID call Trump out on the military history. (Starmer)

Clym Yeobright's avatar

Scarcely enough, in my opinion. He turned it into “He said, she said”. Shoulda turned it into “You’re a fucking liar, draft dodger, and yellow-bellied coward”

Jay Jay Eh's avatar

In my childhood playground (N.Central B.C) we called them ‘you yellow-bellied sap-suckers’!

Clym Yeobright's avatar

This week has to have been very liberating for Starmer, Carney, Rutte, and the others. “For a year, we’ve been looking for a ‘strategy’ to deal with him. At last we can’t avoid concluding it’s like trying to devise a strategy for playing pachinko.”

Jay Jay Eh's avatar

Carney let the rope out for 1 year — Trump hung himself in plain view.

There is a point of ‘diminishing returns’, Carney called it & others followed.
