They have to be tough enough or it’s going to be a revolt

YES this is what is needed!!! The Nazipublican party and their pedo-raper-in-chief are fukking BULLIES….. and they love “recreational cruelty” (to be cruel just for fun). The only behavior and language they understand is behavior and language just like theirs - bullying, being vile for fun ,,, this is why one MUST employ the “fight fire with fire” method -- we MUST be a bigger bully and treat them with their type of behavior and language…. otherwise, they will not get it, they will not understand, and they will not stop. I have had to use this method occasionally over my years,,,,, in fact as a little girl in elementary school, I intuitively used this method on the school bullies….. I was one of the very few who would stand up to and fight against (sometimes, literally… fight) the dang bullies. I became known as “The Bully-killer”….. not literally, of course…. but my fight fire with fire method would shut them down immediately. Bullies do NOT stop if all you do is cry, or beg, or plead, or try to reason…. no, all of that just feeds their sickness and they escalate. Look at the pedo-raper-in-chief… his behavior is the perfect example of this… no one has fought him with his own type of fire, and so there have been no consequences to his behaviors….. and so he ramps up his behaviors, thinking that he will always get away with it…. There were no consequences to his insurrection back in 2021…. Garland was too meek and did nothing,,,, so he felt free to continue, and escalate, his vile behaviors amd language. So if the current congress decides to skip over his behaviors this time, BIG SHAME on the Dems!!!! Letters of “stern” language and warnings ARE NOTHING to him and all he will see is a ticket to continue freely doing his vile crap. And, this do-nothing behavior from the Dems will send a message to the next bully in the future of …. see? The Dems are nice people, they will do nothing to you but send you a “sternly-worded letter”,,,, in other words, no consequences…. so go ahead and abuse us again. (Although this is another topic, it is the same: this “no consequences” for your behavior culture is why rape and other types of sexual assault is rampant - male judges who were assaulters, or are sympathetic to their “bros”, will let the criminal off with no sentence, or with a very light sentence. And so, knowing that they can continue to always get away with it, males continue to rape and sexually assault.)

I appreciate what Schumer and Jeffries have done for the Democrats, but I do worry that once in power, they may revert to business-as-usual approaches. We need to address affordability AND accountability, the latter to prosecute the Republican leadership who broke the law. Otherwise, they UNDOUBTABLY will do it again. Garland failed miserably by going after the low hanging fruit, the actual feet on the ground insurrectionists, whereas he should have focused on the Republican leadership who led the coup; it was a travesty. And, Jeffries meeting with Kushner a few months back left a BAD taste in my mouth, and I just do not see enough "fire-in-the-gut" from Schumer as a leader. The Dems need new and younger leadership.

Absolutely spot on. The guiding principle is clear enough for a bumper sticker: Affordability AND Accountability.

Simple as that.

Neither “leader” supported progressive candidates like Mamdani and El-Sayed. They have been weak and scared and the Blue wave happened despite them.

Celebrating freedom means refusing to bow to Trump’s policies or the suffocating cult built around him. It’s a declaration that democracy isn’t a stage for one man’s ego, nor a playground for fear‑mongering. It’s choosing truth over propaganda, institutions over tantrums, and courage over submission. Real freedom is the act of standing up, speaking out, and rejecting any leader who demands loyalty instead of accountability.

As long as the same democrats remain in the leadership position at the house and the Senate, I fear it will be “same as usual.” The Democrats need to change their leadership for some new, young representatives and senators, eager to serve and make people of this administration accountable, rather than to please the man in the oval office.

The current leadership in the house and the Senate for the Democrat, party is spineless and has allowed Trump to fulfill his agenda thus far. This is the last chance probably in many years to come, the Democrats have to show their voters that they are capable and willing to make this administration accountable for the barbaric behavior It has displayed throughout this term.

Remember that many people did not vote democrat. We voted against Trump and his administration. If Democrats do not step up to the plate, they will give the presidency to the Republicans in 2028.

This has to end. Pedocchio and his evil minions must be taken down. Schumer and Jeffries will only comply. Don’t forget who funds them.

Schumer & Jeffries need to be replaced by stronger Democrats who will actually get things done. It will be a balancing act of rebuilding so much that has been destroyed, and working to hold the worst bad actors accountable.

Never has there been a more opportune time for the VP, the Cabinet, and Congress to exercise their constitutional obligations under Amendment 25(4) (Removal) or for Congress to impeach, convict and remove both 47 and the holder of the bucket office described so well by John Nance Garner. I suspect if GOP traitors, now living abject terror of 47 (what if there is no pardon?) and of the already planned vigorous Dem accountability actions, might solicit compromise – without guaranty – for some leniency in criminal liability, while remaining liable civilly (restitution, fines), compelled resignation after the process is complete, and a lifetime ban on ever holding public office. Let’s see how well their bipartisan screeds work when the compromises to be made are theirs.

Trump being his own worst enemy is incalculable as an asset. What better proof is there than elevation of Miller to WH Chief of Staff? Stress, tether and corner him. Nourish him only with highly enriched refined sugar drinks and sclerosis-inducing food substances, all while overwhelming him with forced vetoes, impeachments, investigations and hearings of every sycophantic subordinate and complicit profiteer to occupy his time and force the GOP to every one override veto presented. Tear down and prevent construction of his monuments. Restart USAID. Begin to restore the trust and commitments to humanity, civility and decency necessary to rejoin the world community.

As an agent of change, Jeffries is all hat, no cattle, an weak orator of his formulaic mantra: “In the new Congress [Dems must] act decisively in three key areas: (1) Affordability (2) Accountability and (3) American Values.” https://tinyurl.com/ym4b7c8t Sheltering himself behind amorphous platitudes, Schumer offers less: “Against all odds, we Democrats have won the Senate. And we have five words for the American people: relief is on the way. We never wavered. We listened to the American people, what they wanted. And as a result, there is now a generational remake of the Senate map that is going to change America now and on into the future.” https://tinyurl.com/4nt4rtd6

Dems need Raskin atop the Judiciary Committee and Garcia as the Oversight Chair, though both would be excellent SOH Majority Leaders. Other exceptionally good options include: Neguse (CO); Crow (CO); Deluzio (PA); Ryan (NY); Dean (PA); Pingree (ME); Boyle (PA); Lieu (CA); Stansbury (NM); AOC (NY); Walkinshaw (VA); Casar (TX); and others. There is no shortage of choices. Any would be better on a bad day for them than Jeffries is on a rare good day for him. Stansbury, Neguse, Crow or Boyle as SOH would demonstrate their visions with objective, measurable and targeted actions – even if vetoed, not shallow bromides, that the generational baton – the single most essential precursor to change, has been passed to bright, energetic leadership.

The Senate is rife with a deep bench of players ready to lead: Murphy (CT); Booker (NJ); Duckworth (IL); Kim (NJ); Ossoff (GA – maybe hold in reserve for a 2028 Executive Office?); Slotkin (MI). Seasoned, experienced, bright, capable and young enough to possess kinetic energy, not sing-songs (“we will win”) devoid of substance. Whitehouse (RI) and Warren (MA) bring everything essential except youth. Again, others will differ but I gladly would back Murphy, Slotkin, Booker or Duckworth, all elites.

Dems must not just focus on holding this administration accountable, but produce bills and budgets that address the issues they won on: the economy, affordable housing, immigration reform, healthcare, and ending money in politics, all of which will require a new tax structure. Even if the bills are vetoed, they must demonstrate they are here for the needs of the people. I am hoping they can do so, and perhaps get a few repubs to join them.

Thank You Steven .. I would like to see new leadership .. These last almost two years they weren't out front leading the party. Hakeem met privately with Kushner. I'm sure they would be fine if we were living through another era. We need leaders that can come out and tell us what they are doing and why they doing it. If it is going to be like Garland and Joe running the show we are sunk again. It looks like they are going to be the leaders anyway so I still hope for the best.

We shall see, won't we. I will never forget how the Democratic leadership in Congress was apparently caught unawares by the onset of Trump II and the DOGE/Musk wrecking ball. In a parliamentary system, those "leaders" would most likely have been sidelined PDQ.

We the voters can't retire into the background as we all too often do. We need to monitor our electeds and keep pushing them to live up to their promises and our expectations.

Elisabetta Pozzi Horvath's avatar

Yes we can, but we need new leadership. Out Jeffrey, out Schumer, out anyone not ready to obliterate trump & trumpism. Investigate, impeach, convict, and imprison including all members of the trump crime family.

Easy choice - They either are or they lose the Presidency in 2 years (& the House & Senate)

We voted them back into power to stop the corruption, crimes & capitulation by the Trump Regime & MAGA/GOP

They must use their subpoena powers to hold them all accountable for murdering Americans on our streets, immigrants in camps & girls in Iran. Nothing less will do. - We demand justice

At the same time they must stop Trump & begin to fix the economy, stop this illegal war & repair our alliances with other democracies.

A TALL order but that is why we have given Democrats such a large mandate to bring decency, justice, tolerance & democracy back to America
